Federal public servants to strike Wednesday if no deal reached, union says

Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) leadership says all workers in a legal strike position will strike Wednesday if they don’t reach an agreement by 9 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Its bargaining groups — one of about 35,000 Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) workers, the other of about 120,000 staff spread across more than 20 departments and agencies — each moved into legal strike positions last week after strike votes.

Behold the kleptocracy.

Military cemeteries need more funding to keep them from falling into disrepair

An internal report by Veterans Affairs Canada is raising red flags over the country’s military graves and cemeteries, warning that more permanent funding is needed to keep them from falling into disrepair.

The report is the result of an internal audit following up on a similar review six years ago. At that time, nearly 45,000 out of the estimated 207,000 graves of Canada’s veterans were in a state of disrepair because of a lack of resources.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has claimed the U.S. government had access to users private messages on Twitter.

In a wide-ranging interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, set to be broadcast on Monday and Tuesday night, Musk made the startling claims noting how he was shocked to learn that the government had full access to private communications on the platform.

The billionaire tycoon told Carlson how unaware of the fact until he joined the company and expressed surprise at the degree to which government agencies were able to monitor social media.

I wonder if this is true of Canada.

More than 50 of this country’s former top security officials, military commanders and politicians — along with a former top Supreme Court justice — have signed an open letter imploring the Liberal government to take national security and defence more seriously.

The letter was released Monday by the Conference of Defence Associations Institute (CDAI). It includes the signatures of five former Liberal and Conservative defence ministers, nine former chiefs of the defence staff, four former ambassadors, two former top national security and intelligence advisers, a former director of the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS), business leaders and former chief justice of the Supreme Court Beverley McLachlin.

Around 50 police officers have been drafted in to keep two crowds of protesters separate at a Kellie-Jay Keen rally in Belfast today – just weeks after the women’s rights campaigner was pelted with tomato sauce in New Zealand.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Donegall Quay area of the city centre on Sunday afternoon to hear Keen, also known as Posie Parker, calling counter-protesters ‘f***ing deranged’.

Parker, who has repeatedly said she is ‘not a feminist’, addressed the ‘Let Women Speak’ demonstration beside the city’s ‘Big Fish’ landmark.

Meet the Chinese billionaire who donated to the Trudeau Foundation

Useful Idiot Justin Trudeau with Zhang Bin.

Zhang Bin, a wealthy Chinese businessman, finds himself in the middle of a controversial 2016 donation to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation that The Globe and Mail has reported was linked to the Chinese government, allegedly part of Beijing’s meddling in Canadian democratic processes.

A Chinese citizen with a home in Quebec, Mr. Zhang is president of the China Cultural Industry Association, a government-backed body that promotes Chinese soft power around the world. He is also a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, an advisory body, and, according to a now-deleted profile of him on the industry association website, a member of the ruling Communist Party.

Wagner chief calls for end of Ukraine war in blog post

The head of Russia’s mercenary Wagner group caused a stir by saying that an end to the war in Ukraine would be an “ideal result.”

Yevgeny Prigozhin made the remark in a blog post published Friday that has only now come to light.

“The ideal option would be to announce the end of the special military operation and declare that Russia has achieved all of its planned goals — and, in some respects, we really have achieved them,” Prigozhin wrote in comments that were picked up by Ukrainian media.
