Putin’s Nuclear Itch – The more he loses, the stronger it becomes.

For a year I’ve been expressing my fear of a desperate Vladimir Putin ultimately resorting to a nuclear option of some sort in Ukraine. The Russians always get their tails kicked in military conflicts, and the fact that they’ve been beat up in Ukraine is no surprise to anyone with a knowledge of Russian military history. Maybe the one person most surprised is Vladimir Putin. He’s not pleased. Putin is a thug, and as he runs out of options to seize Ukraine, the cornered Mad Dog could lash out at his fabricated enemy in an especially vicious way. That might mean nuclear weapons in some form.

Chrystia Freeland abandons budget balance plan, adding $50 billion in debt

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is steering the federal government’s finances back into deficit in a bid to ensure Canada gets a piece of a generational green transformation in the economy.

Freeland unveiled the 2023 budget Tuesday afternoon.

Last fall, she predicted that after years of sky-high, pandemic-driven deficits, the government would finally return to balance, gradually reducing deficits until moving into a $4.5 billion surplus in 2027. That previous surplus is now a $14 billion deficit.

Sunny Hostin Suggests Black People In US Are Treated Worse Than Muslims In China

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin suggested Tuesday that black people in the U.S. are treated worse than Uyghur Muslims placed in Chinese concentration camps.

During a discussion about the drop in American patriotism, Hostin said she does not recognize American exceptionalism because of “white supremacy.” Her criticism of the U.S. led her to compare the incarceration of black people to Uyghur Muslims in China.

National Security Threat: Another Latin American Country Chooses China

Honduras recently cut ties with Taiwan and established diplomatic ties with China.

Honduras’ Foreign Minister Eduardo Reina made it clear that the decision was about “pragmatism, not ideology” and that it was motivated by the country’s debt, which totals $20 billion, as well as the need to deal with the country’s energy and other needs. Honduras’ decision came just weeks after the Honduran government announced that it was negotiating with China to build a hydroelectric dam called Patuca II. China has already invested $298 million in a first dam in eastern Honduras inaugurated in January 2021.

Backlash over Levi’s AI-generated clothing models to ‘increase diversity’

Brand’s idea to create realistic computer-generated images of different body types is likened by critics to ‘digital blackface’

Levi’s was facing a backlash after it unveiled new AI models it claimed would help boost diversity and sustainability.

The fashion brand recently said it was partnering with a digital studio that uses artificial intelligence to create realistic computer-generated images of different body types wearing the clothes.

The genie is out of the bottle, playing the race card won’t put it back in. And why does the article assume that white models are not being replaced by AI? Cuz then there’d be no story.

AI Could Impact 80% of American Jobs in the Next Few Years. Is Your Job on the List?

OpenAI, the people who brought you ChatGPT, teamed up with the University of Pennsylvania recently to study the effects and possible fallout of the implementation of AI in the American workplace. Their findings were not good. Well, not good if you happen to be a person who depends on a job for the money you need to feed your family, buy clothes, and keep a roof over your head. On the other hand, if you are a one-percenter or someone who aspires to live off of government largesse for the rest of your life, the news is either ho-hum or excellent.

The election-interference discussion can easily slip into racism says the Senator from Beijing

Why do some Canadians bristle at the suggestion that recent reporting on foreign interference in our democracy encourages racism?

Setting aside partisan point-scoring, let’s assume that the reason is an inability to see how genuine concern about foreign interference could be construed as racist.

Doug Ford to Toronto residents: ‘Don’t vote’ for mayoral candidates who want to defund police

While Ford did not mention anyone by name, it appeared to be a veiled shot at councillors Josh Matlow and Brad Bradford — and a tacit endorsement of former Toronto police chief Mark Saunders.

“There’s a couple of candidates that are running, they’re sitting councillors that voted to defund the police,” the premier told reporters Tuesday at Pearson International Airport.

“The people that voted for defund the police, don’t vote for them. Simple as that,” he said.

Migrants start fire at Mexico detention center, killing 40

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Migrants fearing deportation set mattresses ablaze at an immigration detention center in northern Mexico, starting a fire that killed at least 40 people, the president said Tuesday, in one of the deadliest events ever at a Mexican immigration lockup.

Hours after the fire broke out late Monday, rows of bodies were laid out under shimmery silver sheets outside the facility in Ciudad Juarez, which is across from El Paso, Texas, and a major crossing point for migrants. Ambulances, firefighters and vans from the morgue swarmed the scene.

Adam Zivo: CBC keeps coming to Trudeau’s defence over interference scandal

The CBC’s coverage of the China interference scandal has often been questionable and partisan. Though its unsurprising that the organization has chosen to act, yet again, as the Liberals’ state-funded PR wing, its recent decision to platform an apologist for Beijing’s genocide against the Uyghurs is a new low.

Berlin clarifies gender equality rules for topless bathing

When Lotte Mies went topless at an indoor swimming pool in the Berlin district of Kaulsdorf last December, she was asked to either cover her chest or leave the pool. The 33-year-old activist had already called ahead to check with staff that she could go topless and was told it would not be a problem. But when she refused to cover up, the police were called and Mies was forced to leave.

“It was more than humiliating for me that day and it really wasn’t nice to be treated like a second-class citizen on the basis of my gender and not to be able to decide for myself how to [present] my own body,” Mies told DW.

What could possibly go wrong?

Michael Taube: How the Trudeau Liberals Lost the Plot With Chinese Election Interference

For more than 25 years of writing columns and making media appearances, I’ve often discussed the importance of controlling the political narrative. It’s a key component for successful governments, and an art form unto itself.

The narrative is the messaging, or series of events, pertaining to a particular issue, policy, event, or controversy. There are times when it’s been shaped by parties and leaders. There are moments where it naturally develops on its own. No matter how it evolves, it’s always incumbent on the government to ensure the narrative points in their general direction for as long and as often as possible.

The first British Challenger 2 battle tanks have arrived in Ukraine, in a major boost for its armoured forces ahead of a planned spring offensive.

“Today, I had the honour to try out the newest addition to our armed units, particularly Challengers from the UK,” Oleksii Reznikov, the Ukraine defence minister, said.

A Challenger 2 was pictured alongside several other recently donated armoured vehicles including an American Stryker infantry carrier and a German Marder.

German Leopard 2 tanks now in Ukraine, Berlin confirms

Germany’s much-awaited shipment of 18 Leopard 2 battle tanks has arrived in Ukraine, the German defence ministry has confirmed.

After months of prevaricating, the German government announced in late January it would provide Kyiv with the state-of-the-art fighting vehicles as part of a deal under which several EU states would contribute to a shipment of two Leopard 2 battalions and 31 American-made M1A2 Abrams tanks from the US.
