Electric vehicles lose up to 30% range when temperatures dip below freezing, study finds

Electric vehicles (EVs) can lose up to 30 per cent of their range in freezing temperatures, according to a U.S. firm that tested range loss in 7,000 cars.

Seattle-based Recurrent measured range loss in 7,000 EVs at temperatures between –7 C and –1 C.

At the low end, the Jaguar I-Pace had an estimated range loss of three per cent, while the Volkswagen ID.4 had a 30 per cent range loss at those temperatures.

Scottish police defy Nicola Sturgeon over trans self-ID law

Police Scotland referred to a transgender butcher arrested in connection with the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl as a man

Scottish police have defied Nicola Sturgeon’s sex self-ID drive by referring to a transgender butcher arrested in connection with the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl as a man.

Andrew George Miller, known locally as Amy, was taken into police custody on Monday night after the 11-year-old girl who disappeared on Sunday, was found “safe and well” at a home in Gattonside near Galashiels after being missing for more than a day.

Police confirmed yesterday that a “53-year-old man”, understood to be Miller, had been arrested in connection with the disappearance, which caused grave concerns for the child’s welfare and led to a desperate search and rescue mission being launched.

Ottawa lays out health plan worth $196B over next decade, with $46B in new spending

The federal government is offering the provinces and territories a health funding deal worth $196.1 billion over 10 years, including $46.2 billion in new money.

But the premiers say the plan appears to offer less money than they were looking for, especially in the first year of the proposed deal.

“One of the things that we did see today is that there wasn’t a lot in the way of new funding that is a part of this package… to say the least I think we were a little disappointed in that,” Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson said in reaction to the federal government’s proposal Tuesday.

Nienhuis: Assisted dying for the mentally ill should be cancelled altogether — not merely delayed

When the Senate, an unelected body, introduced a clause into its Medical Assistance in Dying legislation (MAiD) that added mental illness as a qualifying factor, it showed a deep disconnect from the people of Canada and a lack of care for those who suffer from mental illness. Since then, psychiatrists, psychologists and thousands of Canadians have called for a stop to this madness. It seems the federal government is finally listening.

Did animals in Turkey, Syria sense the quake early? Here’s the science.

Birds flew erratically above snow-capped buildings. Dogs howled loudly. Then, a devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria leveled buildings and killed more than 5,000 people.

Social media users claimed that animals were behaving strangely just before the massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake and significant aftershocks. While The Washington Post could not immediately verify the footage, the idea that animals can detect powerful earthquakes before humans has been a theory around since at least ancient times.

The Reason Democrats Can’t See Kamala Harris for Who She Is

If they are seeing more clearly now, it is only because the evidence has become so overwhelming that it is impossible to ignore.

In the run-up to the 2020 election, legacy-media outlets went to Herculean lengths to block and tackle for Kamala Harris. Almost any criticism of Harris was swiftly flagged and scolded for its internalized racism, sexism, and or both — the “double bind” of “racism and sexism” that shows “not only the bias that women and people of color face, but the fact that for women of color, that bias is more than the sum of its parts,” as an October 2020 New York Times analysis put it. Even the allegation that Harris was “phony” was off-limits — “when used against a person, and especially a woman of color, experts say” charges of phoniness have “a harmful subtext,” the Times counseled.

The Biden Family Problems are Converging

The Biden family (as in crime family) legal problems are beginning to converge in an interesting way. It may be the formation of a perfect political storm.

Objective observers (which excludes the MSM) recognize that the Biden clan has had some shady financial dealings. With recent events, the evidence is becoming undeniable. As criminals often do, one of the co-conspirators may need to turn on the other to cover his tail. In this case, Hunter Biden may be the one protecting himself at his partner’s expense — with Joe Biden being the partner left holding the bag.

The madness behind the battle for Bakhmut

Russian troops are dying in their thousands here

“The objective for today is to come back alive.” Yevgeny is a young commando from the “Mad Pack”, a special forces unit that has been fighting in Bakhmut since November. His words are familiar — lacquered with that mix of emotions common to almost all soldiers fighting on the frontlines of war: laughter and unease. We clamber into a Land Cruiser and head toward the city. “The situation is always changing,” he continues. “But one thing remains the same: the line of contact is always active.”

Bugs go on the menu in Europe

EATING bugs used to be the preserve of small children who knew no better. However, in our fast-changing world, what would have seemed outlandish only a few years ago is now on the menu.

Indeed, only last week, the European Union passed regulation 2023/5. It allows ‘partially defatted’ powder of the house cricket (Acheta domesticus) into the food chain for human consumption.

Our non-gendered parent who art in heaven: Priests could stop using male pronouns ‘He’ and ‘Him’ when referring to God in prayers and drop phrase ‘our Father’ from the Lord’s Prayer

God could be referred to in ‘non-gendered’ terms during Church of England services for the first time, it can be revealed.

Breaking with centuries of tradition, bishops have announced they are launching a major ‘project on gendered language’ this spring.

It may suggest that priests can stop using the male pronouns ‘He’ and ‘Him’ when referring to God in some prayers, or even that they can drop the famous phrase ‘our Father’ from the start of the Lord’s Prayer.

How the green elites are impoverishing the world

Climate targets are standing in the way of global development.

The global super-rich love to warn us about climate change. They love to preach about all the things we’ll need to give up and all the sacrifices we should make. But they also love to travel in private jets and live in lavish mansions by the sea. They emit orders of magnitude more CO2 than the average person. So what explains this mismatch? Is there more to it than just hypocrisy?

Swedish police demand tools to fight ‘unprecedented’ gang crime

Nation with peaceful reputation averaged one shooting or bombing a day last month

Swedish police chiefs have warned that crime is hitting “extremely serious and unprecedented” levels after 19 shootings in Stockholm and the surrounding towns since Christmas.

Gun violence between gangs competing over the increasingly lucrative drugs trade has been rising since the turn of the millennium, culminating in a record 63 fatal shootings last year. The country also has the European Union’s highest numbers of drug offences, burglaries and thefts per head, according to the bloc’s statistics agency.
