Poland pressures Germany on war reparations

Following Germany’s latest refusal to pay war reparations to Poland, Polish officials are calling on the US and the UN for support. The government also aims to have its demands “clarified” to Germans.

“Germany’s response is astonishing to us in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as for the Polish state. The German government cannot answer a question that was never posed. Neither negotiations nor conciliatory discussions took place.” That’s what Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk had to say about Germany’s newest refusal to pay Poland reparations for World War II. Mularczyk made the statement on Wednesday in Warsaw.

The company announced on Tuesday that Hauk would be stepping down from her position as CEO of its Pink apparel brand for teens and the overall company brand. Martin Waters, CEO of parent company Victoria’s Secret & Co., will take her place, according to CNN Business.

Nord Stream Who?

… And when the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines exploded in September, the West ignored Russia’s claims of innocence and, in concert, convicted Russia of sabotage. “No one on the European side of the ocean is thinking this is anything other than Russian sabotage,” said a senior European environmental official. U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm immediately said that it “seems” Russia is to blame.

But the Washington Post recently reported that, after months of investigation, there is nothing to suggest that Russia was responsible. The Post article interviewed “23 diplomatic and intelligence officials in nine countries” who said that “[t]here is no evidence at this point that Russia was behind the sabotage.” It reports that “even those with inside knowledge of the forensic details don’t conclusively tie Russia to the attack.”

If Russia didn’t do it, one of us did. The most disturbingly unasked question of 2022 is: Who blew up the Nord Stream pipelines?

GTA, Hamilton should be asked to help shelter refugees: Toronto report

A Toronto committee will consider formally asking other GTA municipalities and Hamilton to help shelter an anticipated increase in refugee claimants and asylum seekers.

A report before the Economic and Community Development Committee Wednesday also recommends the federal and Ontario governments be approached for more funding to help cover the costs of supporting the newcomers.

Why not bus them to Harrington Lake?

Why should tax-payers foot the bill for the wage slaves the Liberal government supplies to the corporate class?

RCMP has spent nearly $50M on policing pipeline, logging standoffs in B.C.

An RCMP squad charged with policing resistance to resource extraction in British Columbia spent nearly $50 million enforcing injunctions obtained by the petroleum and forestry sectors in its first five years, an internal accounting shows.

The figures, released to CBC News under access-to-information law, offer the first publicly available, if rough, estimate of the costs incurred by Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG).

Formed in 2017, the C-IRG has no defined territorial jurisdiction, an unknown number of members, and no set budget. It goes where industry meets land occupations, blockades and civil disobedience.

Still no leads on the Coastal GasLink domestic terrorist attack. It’s as if someone doesn’t want this crime to be solved.

Newport News: Boy aged six detained after shooting teacher in US

A six-year-old boy has been detained by police after shooting a teacher in the US state of Virginia, officers say.

The shooting happened shortly after 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT) at Richneck Elementary School in the city of Newport News, Chief Steve Drew said.

It is unclear how the child obtained the gun, but Mr Drew said the incident was not “an accidental shooting”.

The teacher – who has not been named and is said to be in her 30s – was left with life-threatening injuries.

Prince Harry denounced for ‘airing his family’s dirty laundry’ as global mood turns against him

US news anchors denounced Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir as a “gauche” public airing of the Royal family’s “dirty laundry”, as media outlets in the Duke’s adopted home turned against him.

American journalists once sympathetic to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex questioned why Harry felt the need to put family arguments “out there for the whole world to see” in Spare.

“I just don’t understand why on earth he would want to put that out there. I know he’s selling a book but to me, it’s just not done,” said Don Lemon, a CNN anchor. “It’s gauche to me”.
