The UFO Crowd Wants an Alien Invasion for Christmas

The Pentagon discovers it’s not the flying saucers but their admirers who may be the real security threat.

Reader Lex Fridman apparently has an extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for UFO sightings, and also an appreciation of ants judging by his personal email address and avatar.

And yet he assures me he’s not Lex Fridman the MIT computer scientist and webcaster who also has a deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for UFO sightings, and has exhibited an admiration of ants in his social-media posts.

He asks some questions, though: “How much did they pay you to write this trash? Do you still have a gag reflex or did they take that along with the journalistic integrity?” He closes with a scatological insult, which, in an undeserved favor to him, I don’t repeat.

I’d say you could call this guy a skeptic.

Alberta Premier slams Trudeau’s proposed ban on gasoline cars as anti-freedom, expensive

Danielle Smith told Albertans regarding a mandate for all-electric new car sales by 2035 that ‘I will make sure you have a choice when it comes to the vehicle you drive — the NDP and Liberals can butt out.’

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has said heck “no” to a new federal mandate that will require all new cars sold after 2035 to be “zero emission” electric (EVs) vehicles and promised that Albertans will always have the choice to buy gasoline-powered cars.

“The Liberal-NDP plan to outlaw non-electric vehicles will drive up vehicle costs and take away your freedom to choose what vehicle makes sense for you and your family,” Smith said in a statement posted Thursday on social media.

It’s almost exactly a month ago that Germany made a 15-year deal for the supply of natural gas with the kingdom of Qatar.

Qatar was not Germany’s first choice. Readers will recall that Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a special trip to Canada hoping as a Reuters’ news report put it that “a democratic G7 ally would one day ship his country liquefied natural gas to replace Russian gas imports.”

Putin Wants Fealty, and He’s Found It in Africa

BANGUI, Central African Republic — In early March, as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entered its third week, a Russian diplomat nearly 3,000 miles away in the Central African Republic paid an unusual visit to the head of this country’s top court. His message was blunt: The country’s pro-Kremlin president must remain in office, indefinitely.

To do this, the diplomat, Yevgeny Migunov, the second secretary at the Russian Embassy, argued that the court should abolish the constitutional restriction limiting a president to two terms. He insisted that President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, who is in his second term and surrounds himself with Russian mercenaries, should stay on, for the good of the country.

Native American tribal leaders in South Dakota are appealing for urgent help as snowed-in communities run out of vital supplies amid a winter storm.

The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation has been buried in more than 30in (76cm) of snow, but powerful winds have stacked snow drifts 12ft (3.6m) high.

“We’re fighting a losing battle,” Oglala Sioux Tribe President Frank Star Comes Out told BBC News.

Elite undercover Texas agents disguise themselves as migrants to apprehend smugglers

El Paso, Texas — Wearing baggy blue jeans and hoodies and looking scruffy and unkempt, the state’s elite undercover squad could easily be mistaken for the bedraggled smugglers they are trying to apprehend, or the migrants pouring over the southern border from Mexico.

These specially trained members of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety have perhaps the most dangerous job on the border, acting as double agents and facing certain death if their cover is blown.

Massive Police-Led Iris Scan Collection in China Raises Concerns of State Control and Repression: Canadian Study

A new study from the University of Toronto reveals a massive police-led iris scan collection campaign conducted in China’s western province of Qinghai, which researchers said could be used for increased state control and repression of ethnic and religious minorities and critics of the communist regime.

The study, published by U of T’s The Citizen Lab on Dec. 14, looked at nearly 190 publicly available sources, including the official social media accounts of the Chinese regime or public security bureau and local news reports. Among these sources, 53 contained figures showing that between March 2019 and July 2022, Chinese police may have collected between roughly 1,250,000 and 1,450,000 iris scans, representing between one-fifth (21.1 percent) and a quarter (25.6 percent) of Qinghai’s total population of 5.9 million.
