Facebook planning ‘large scale layoffs’ of thousands of workers following hiring freeze and 70 per cent fall in share price this year

Facebook is planning to begin large-scale layoffs this week that will affect thousands of employees with an announcement planned as early as Wednesday.

Facebook parent company Meta Platforms Inc forecast a weak holiday quarter and significantly more costs next year wiping about $67 billion off Meta’s stock market value, adding to the more than half a trillion dollars in value already lost this year.

The disappointing outlook comes as Meta is contending with slowing global economic growth, competition from TikTok, privacy changes from Apple, concerns about massive spending on the metaverse and the ever-present threat of regulation.

I’m no tech visionary but this Metaverse virtual reality thing sounds like a repackaged “3D Movies” hustle. It seems every 15 or 20 years some joker resurrects “3D Movies.” A couple of films make some money but the novelty wears off in a hurry.

I didn’t want to wear 3D Goggles to watch a movie in my living room so why do I want to wear them now to walk about in a pointless virtual environment which if it’s anything like FB will be as tasteless as a bowl of cold mush.

$84B plan to replace Canada’s warships is ‘ludicrous’

Canada’s Brokeback Navy

In the 2008 Canadian National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy, $26 billion was planned for the construction of the 15 vessels of the Surface Combatant (CSC) Project, with the British Type 26 design being selected for the ships. In 2017, the cost jumped to $62 billion. The cost ramped up to $70 billion in 2019, after Canada selected Lockheed Martin’s design for the ship, and then to $77 billion in 2021 and now sits at $84 billion, more than $5 billion per ship.

They are going to need to recruit a lot of foreign Trannies to crew those 15 vessels.

Musk Purchase Of Twitter Just Keeps Getting Better! No Bullshit Trudeau Government Ads!

Federal government advised to pause Twitter ads after mass layoffs at company

A media and marketing agency that is responsible for buying and planning much of the government’s advertising has advised federal departments to pause activity on Twitter, citing mass layoffs at the company.

Cossette, which is the government’s “media agency of record,” issued guidance Friday to “pause activity immediately and monitor the situation over the weekend” due to “unknown continuity plans for moderation” and a “heightened risk of brand safety,” according to an internal document seen by CBC News.

The “heightened risk of brand safety.” Yea right.

It’s the parallel economy, stupid!

When they said ‘build your own internet,’ some conservatives took it seriously

There’s a lot of rumbling about American polarization these days. Sometimes it takes the form of people advocating for a national divorce or dire warnings of a forthcoming civil war.

A national divorce seems impractical and America is too fat for a civil war. Better evidence that the country is already fracturing is the talk of the “parallel economy.” We’ve come a long way from the 2016 moment of self-awareness about needing to get out of our echo chambers. By 2020 it seemed everyone wanted their own. Now we’re redecorating the walls of the echo chambers. Adding some throw pillows. But as corporations go woke and all-in on DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and the Great Reset — an enormous market, consisting of average Americans, is being alienated or blatantly pushed out. While Big Tech and Big Government and Big Pharma increasingly operate in lockstep to censor any dissent, disagreement, skepticism or pushback, the free market is stepping up.

Amnesty for COVID fear pushers? Forget it!

On October 31, 2022, The Atlantic published an opinion piece titled “Let’s Declare a Pandemic Amnesty,” with the subtitle, “Let’s focus on the future, and fix the problems we still need to solve,” penned by Brown University economist Emily Oster.

The article began by rehearsing a litany of social measures that were taken in response to the pandemic, highlighting the animosity that arose between opposing factions.

“You Think You Can Run Away?”

The Persecution of Christians, September 2022

[In the video, the 36-year-old mother of three] appears naked, with both of her arms and legs cut off. One of her eyes is clearly gouged out. A severed finger appears sticking out of her mouth, and another appears to be sticking out of her private parts. The Muslim soldiers videotaping their handiwork… can be heard laughing and joking in the background. Video footage similarly showed Azerbaijani soldiers overpowering and forcing down an elderly Armenian man, who cries and implores them for mercy, as they casually carve at his throat with a knife. — Video, September 13, 2022, Azerbaijan/Armenia.

Guadalcanal: An American victory aided by a British hero

I WROTE recently in TCW how victory for Britain in the Second Battle of El Alamein in November 1942 was a turning point in the war against Germany.

Commenting on the article, one of our American readers, D A Christianson, noted that the pivotal moment of the war in the Pacific for the US also came in 1942, with the battle for the key island of Guadalcanal.

He was right to remind us. The hard-won victory there after a bitter six-month struggle from August 1942 to February 1943 is probably little remembered now in Britain, but it halted Tokyo’s military juggernaut, which until then had seemed unstoppable.

The Lab Leak Deception

Journalists and scientists routinely dismissed the lab leak hypothesis as a crackpot theory and even as “racist,” up until the summer of 2021 when science journalist Nicholas Wade published an influential article, and a viral rant by Jon Stewart pushed it into the mainstream. Until that point, social media platforms had been removing or throttling posts that took it seriously. Anthony Fauci, who didn’t respond to our interview request, said it wasn’t worth even considering the possibility that COVID could have originated in a lab.

More recently, emails made public through the Freedom of Information Act have revealed that Fauci, National Institutes of Health (NIH) director Francis Collins, and other prominent public officials took the possibility of a lab origin far more seriously than they were letting on.

Don’t Bet Too Hard on Elon Musk

Twitter will be a more free platform, but it won’t be a truly free one.

Let’s remember who Elon Musk is. He’s a guy who got very rich peddling technofuturism to elites while cashing in on government subsidies. He’s a throwback to a libertarian Silicon Valley and he believes in free speech and debate… in principle.

The Joe Rogan political wing likes the idea of speech. It likes that speech to be on its own terms and it wants to be in charge. It likes controversy, but the kind it agrees with, and that makes it money.

Oat milk is killing the planet

The billion-dollar industry has duped vegan activists

What did you pour over the breakfast cereal this morning? Oatly? Almond milk? Coconut milk? Surely not old-fashioned cow’s milk? As the splash of recent protests by Animal Rebellion (an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion) have warned: the bovine white stuff is the devil’s secretion. Targeting high-end grocers — such as Waitrose, Harrods and M&S Foods — in their “Milk Pour” campaign, these climate-change activists have tipped litres of dairy all over the hallowed floors of middle-class temples, while holding placards demanding a “plant-based future”.

Wokeness and anti-Semitism go hand-in-hand

Modern identity politics is rehabilitating ancient prejudices and divisions.

Public discussion of anti-Semitism typically focuses on its far-right variant – much less is said about its leftist form. Woke Anti-Semitism, by David Bernstein, is a welcome attempt to redress this imbalance. Bernstein is the founder of the Jewish Institute for Liberal Values (JILV), which aims to counter the illiberalism of woke ideas. He has proved to be one of America’s staunchest defenders of classical liberal notions of freedom.

‘My dad’s speaking…you should come meet him.’ Hunter Biden’s ex business partner is set to blow whistle with explosive trove of never-before-seen messages, photos and recordings that could expose alleged criminal activity by the First Family

Hunter Biden’s former business partner is ready to testify with thousands of new call recordings, text messages, photos, emails and documents to a congressional probe investigating the First Son – if the Republicans win the House, sources told DailyMail.com.

Whistleblower Tony Bobulinski had a front-row seat to the Biden family’s deal with their Chinese government-linked business partners, and his explosive trove could expose alleged criminal activity by the First Family.

A source close to the congressional investigations shared some of Bobulinski’s unseen cache of documents exclusively with DailyMail.com.

Guardianista horrified by what he finds on Truth Social!

Inside the unhinged midterm election conspiracy theories on Truth Social

Ballot boxes being stuffed. “BlueAnon”. Men in underpants. Every Democratic candidate: a “complete weirdo psychopath”.

To dive into Truth Social, Donald Trump’s Twitter-but-for-conspiracy-theorists social media platform, is to enter a world where all of the above are real topics of debate, breathlessly discussed by Trump-backing Republicans and anonymous rightwing provocateurs.

Truth Social has always been a platform for lies and obfuscations; about the 2020 election, the Democratic party, vaccines, Hunter Biden. But with less than a week before the election, the platform and its users have become even more unhinged.
