Canada’s COVID-19 border restrictions will end on Sept. 30, alongside the mandatory use of the ArriveCAN app, the federal government says.
The Liberal government officially announced the changes on Monday after Global News and other media reported last week Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signed off on them. They include mandatory vaccinations, testing and quarantine of international travellers.

MOSCOW (AP) — A gunman opened fire in a school in central Russia Monday, killing 13 people, including seven children, and wounding 21 others.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the shooting took place in School No. 88 in Izhevsk, a city about 960 kilometers (600 miles) east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region. It identified the wounded as 14 children and seven adults.
The governor of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, said in a video statement that the gunman shot himself.

ROME — Italy turned a page of European history on Sunday by electing a hard-right coalition led by Giorgia Meloni, whose long record of bashing the European Union, international bankers and migrants has sown concern about the nation’s reliability in the Western alliance.
Results released early Monday showed that Ms. Meloni, the leader of the nationalist Brothers of Italy, a party descended from the remnants of fascism, had led a right-wing coalition to a majority in Parliament, defeating a fractured left and a resurgent anti-establishment movement.

RED DEER, Alberta—Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre says Canadians on the right of the political spectrum should start getting involved locally and in different spheres of society to displace what he calls the “woke left.”
“We need conservatives on school boards, local governments, business leadership, the law, academia and other places where the woke left has been dominating for far too long,” Poilievre said in a short speech delivered by video during the Canada Strong and Free Networking Conference in Red Deer, Alberta, on Sept. 24.
Urgent overhaul planned for Prevent which is ‘protecting terrorists and not the public’
Suella Braverman is planning an urgent overhaul of the Government’s counter-extremism programme after an official inquiry concluded Prevent was treating potential terrorists as “victims”.
Government sources said the new Home Secretary had internally identified reform of Prevent as “a key priority for her within her first few months”.
The disclosure comes as The Telegraph reveals the damning findings of an official inquiry that has concluded that Prevent has strayed from its “core mission” of stopping people from becoming terrorists.
