The founder of Russia’s shadowy Wagner mercenary group has appeared in leaked footage attempting to recruit prisoners to fight in Ukraine.
In filmed footage, verified by the BBC, Yevgeniy Prigozhin can be seen addressing a large group of detainees.
Mr Prigozhin told prisoners their sentences would be commuted in exchange for service with his group.
The video would confirm long-running speculation that Russia hopes to boost its forces by recruiting convicts.

Migrants bussed closed to Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence in Washington DC have scoffed at the idea that the border is closed after she delcared that it was ‘secure’.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent two buses of 101 migrants from Eagle Pass, to the Naval Observatory after crossing the border in an escalation of the ongoing immigration crisis.
One of the migrants told reporters that the border is ‘open’ and ‘everybody belives that the border is open’ in a blow to Harris’ comments and President Biden’s immigration policy.

The man police say killed a Toronto police officer and a Milton mechanic in a multi-city shooting rampage Monday was in 2007 placed on a national “flagging system” for being a “high-risk” to re-offend following a conviction on two counts of robbery and carrying a concealed weapon, police said Thursday.
