Military pro-war bloggers with frontline contacts offer rare insight into Russia’s performance on ground

“The war in Ukraine will continue until the complete defeat of Russia,” Igor Girkin, a far-right nationalist, grumbled in a video address to his 430,000 followers on Telegram on Monday. “We have already lost, the rest is just a matter of time.”

Girkin, a former Russian intelligence colonel who became a commander of the pro-Russian separatist forces in 2014, is arguably the most prominent voice within an increasingly loud and angry group of ultra-nationalist and pro-war bloggers who have taken to berating the Kremlin for its failure to achieve its tactical objectives as the fighting in Ukraine has entered its seventh month.

Swiss Face Up to 3 Years in Prison For Violating Heating Rules

People in Switzerland who violate the country’s new heating rules which forbid setting the temperature above 19°C (66.2F) in the colder months will face up to three years in prison.

Yes, really.

Under the new rules, buildings that use gas heating systems are restricted to 19°C, while hot water can only be heated up to 60°C and radiant heaters are banned entirely.

Canada rampage suspect death prompts fresh investigation

ROSTHERN, Saskatchewan (AP) — The last suspect in a horrific stabbing rampage that killed 10 and wounded 18 in western Canada is dead following his capture, but how he died after being taken into custody has prompted fresh investigations.

One official said Myles Sanderson, 32, died from self-inflicted injuries Wednesday after police forced the stolen car he was driving off a highway in Saskatchewan. Other officials declined to discuss how he died .

Adults Aged 35–44 Died at Twice the Expected Rate Last Summer, Life Insurance Data Suggests

Death claims for working-age adults under group life insurance policies spiked well beyond expected levels last summer and fall, according to data from 20 of the top 21 life insurance companies in the United States.

Death claims for adults aged 35 to 44 were 100 percent higher than expected in July, August, and September 2021, according to a report by the Society of Actuaries, which analyzed 2.3 million death claims submitted to life insurance firms.

François Legault has apologized for comments he made citing the threat of “extremism” and “violence” as well as the need to preserve Quebec’s way of life as reasons to limit the number of immigrants to the province.

“Immigration is a richness for Quebec,” the leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec tweeted Wednesday late afternoon, hours after he made the statement at an election campaign stop in Victoriaville, Que.

“Integration will always be a challenge for a French-speaking nation in North America. I didn’t mean to associate immigration with violence. I am sorry if my comments caused confusion. My desire is to unite.”

VANCOUVER – Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez says that in the face of considerable attention on an increase in hate and harassment online, the federal government feels it has an “obligation” to advance legislative and regulatory changes aimed at tamping down harmful content.

“There’s a consensus on the fact that we have to do something. Not everybody agrees on what exactly, but the fact that status quo is not possible. And whoever says ‘oh no, no, you shouldn’t do anything on this’ has to justify why status quo is OK,” Rodriguez told reporters at the Liberal cabinet retreat in Vancouver, referencing his ongoing consultations on the plan.

A crazed gunman flashed a wide grin as he was arrested by cops in Memphis, Tennesee, after reportedly going on a shooting spree which he live streamed on Facebook – after being released early for aggravated assault.

Ezekiel Kelly, 19, launched his alleged rampage just before 1am and terrorized the city for more than 19 hours, killing four people and injuring three others.

The teenager has a violent criminal record, with police linking him to eight different incidents and warned terrified members of the public to stay away from him in a social media post at around 7pm on Wednesday.

Coutts blockaders collected firearms to use against police, RCMP documents allege

A faction that blockaded the Canada-U.S. border in Alberta last winter to protest COVID-19 health measures was stockpiling weapons to use against police, according to allegations unsealed on Wednesday.

The RCMP alleged in search warrant applications filed in court that anti-vaccine mandate demonstrators who six months gathered in Coutts, Alta., were “arming themselves for a standoff against police.”

The allegations were based partly on information collected by police through wiretaps and undercover officers who infiltrated a hangout where a group of protesters met in a basement.

Industry experts predict the cost of heating your home will shoot up 30% this winter

You might want to sit down when you open your gas bill this winter.

While the price of natural gas has already doubled in the past year, energy analysts say it could be shooting up another 30 per cent in the next few months, pushed by cooler weather, and Russia shutting off the taps to European consumers.

“One thing for certain is that if cold weather arrives early, the overseas natural gas crisis will start washing up on North American shores. It might be a good time to take out flood insurance,” Desjardins Securities energy analyst Chris MacCulloch wrote in a recent note to clients.

Pentagon stops accepting F-35 jets to check for Chinese content

The US Pentagon has stopped accepting new F-35 jets after it discovered a magnet used in the stealthy fighter’s engine was made with unauthorized material from China, a US official said on Wednesday.

An investigation that gathered steam in mid-August found that an alloy in the engine’s lubricant pump did not comply with US procurement laws that bar unauthorized Chinese content, said Pentagon spokesperson Russell Goemaere.
