Twenty-year-old Tekle Sundberg met a tragic end last week. Police were called to his Minneapolis apartment block last Wednesday night. Apparently in the grip of an acute mental-health crisis, Sundberg was firing a pistol wildly from inside his apartment. His neighbour, Arabella Foss-Yarbrough, called 911 after several bullets were shot through her apartment walls. She was cooking dinner for her kids, aged two and four, at the time. When the police arrived, Sundberg fired more shots into the hallway, narrowly missing officers. Police evacuated Foss-Yarbrough and her children, moments after more shots had rung out. A six-hour standoff ensued. Sundberg blasted music from his apartment, periodically hanging out of his window and talking gibberish. Police allege he threatened to shoot officers. According to the timeline released by Minneapolis police, he appeared again at his window at around 4.15am, at which point police snipers shot him dead, believing he was brandishing his gun.

A federal Conservative party led by Pierre Poilievre would pull votes away from the People’s Party of Canada more successfully than one led by Jean Charest, a Mainstreet poll suggests.
The poll asked how people would vote in a federal election if Poilievre or Charest were the Conservative leader.

Provincial agriculture ministers are expressing frustration with the Trudeau government over plans to effectively reduce fertilizer use by Canada’s farmers in the name of fighting climate change.
A meeting of federal and provincial ministers wrapped up in Saskatoon on Friday with several provinces saying they are disappointed.
The federal government is looking to impose a requirement to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from fertilizers saying it is a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. While the Trudeau government says they want a 30% reduction in emissions, not fertilizer, farm producer groups say that at this point, reducing nitrous oxide emissions can’t be done without reducing fertilizer use.

…Euthanasia activists and the media have been incredibly successful in glorifying euthanasia. Something that was until recently criminal has suddenly become accepted as a default moral position.
One advocate says, “If you can’t practise medicine because you can’t do an effective (euthanasia) referral, then you shouldn’t be in medicine.” Another believes it’s a doctor’s duty to do whatever is legal and that the practitioner’s independent thoughts about what is best for the patient have no place in health care.
