In return, Merkel promised to fund green energy infrastructure in Ukraine and push for sanctions on Russia if it dared to use gas as a “weapon” to bully Kyiv.

‘Systemic failures’ in Uvalde school massacre, report finds

UVALDE, Texas (AP) — Nearly 400 law enforcement officials rushed to a mass shooting at a Uvalde elementary school, but “systemic failures” created a chaotic scene that lasted more than an hour before the gunman who took 21 lives was finally confronted and killed, according to a report from investigators released Sunday.

The nearly 80-page report was the first to criticize both state and federal law enforcement, and not just local authorities in the Texas town for the bewildering inaction by heavily armed officers as a gunman fired inside a fourth-grade classroom.

“At Robb Elementary, law enforcement responders failed to adhere to their active shooter training, and they failed to prioritize saving innocent lives over their own safety,” the report said.

The rank and file will have to live with the consequences of their inaction.

I am not sure they can be found liable if all they did was follow orders.

But who will lose their job? The Chief certainly.

But who else can be fired? Hand sanitizer guy should be No. 2 to go.

“It was very shocking and hurtful and just troubling to see some of the statements Collin May expressed,” said Said Omar, Alberta advocacy officer for the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM).

Zelenskyy fires security chief, top prosecutor over treason concerns within their departments

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired the head of the country’s security service and its prosecutor general on Sunday, citing hundreds of criminal proceedings into treason and collaboration by people within their departments.

“In particular, more than 60 employees of the prosecutor’s office and the [Security Service of Ukraine] have remained in the occupied territory and work against our state,” Zelenskyy said.

“Such an array of crimes against the foundations of the state’s national security, and the links recorded between Ukrainian security forces and Russian special services raise very serious questions about their respective leaders,” he said.

We all knew this would be a train wreck. White House Steward Joe Biden has left Saudi Arabia humiliated. In 2020, Biden declared that the kingdom was a “pariah” after the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. I couldn’t care less. The man walked into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to collect certain documents regarding his pending marriage. He probably knew the risks. The nasty part about this story isn’t the sordid tales of torture and dismemberment that reportedly happened to Khashoggi. It’s the reaction. Everyone acted as if Walter Cronkite was the person butchered. The outrage was more intense because Khashoggi died while Trump was president. There would have been a more muted response if Hillary were at the helm.

The district of Lahn-Dill in Frankfurt has suspended hot water in its schools and gyms since mid-September, Düsseldorf closes a huge swimming pool complex, Berlin lowers the thermostat of outdoor pools and Cologne street lighting to 70 for one hundred starting at 11.00pm.

David Boim was 17 when members of Hamas, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, shot and killed him at a bus stop in the West Bank in 1996. Boim’s parents successfully sued a network of American-based Palestinian nonprofit groups in federal court for financing the terrorists that killed their son, and a federal judge ultimately awarded the family a $156 million judgment under the Anti-Terrorism Act following a jury trial in 2004.
