Russia condemns Nato’s invitation to Finland and Sweden

Russian officials have reacted angrily to Nato’s offer of membership to Finland and Sweden, calling it a “destabilising” effort that will increase tensions in the region.

“We condemn the irresponsible course of the North Atlantic Alliance that is ruining the European architecture, or what’s left of it,” Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday.

“I have a great deal of doubt as to whether the upcoming period will be calm for our north European neighbours,” he added.

The indigenous industry is thriving off fake news

On 27 May 2021, the Chief of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc — a First Nations government in British Columbia — announced that ground penetrating radar (GPR) had located the remains of 215 “missing children”. These were allegedly “undocumented deaths” from the Kamloops Indian Residential School, which had closed 52 years ago.

The young anthropologist who conducted the GPR search later added a note of caution: only a forensic investigation could confirm that these were indeed burials. But a moral panic had already been unleashed. Politicians and the media immediately seized on the first announcement, and “burials of missing children” was the storyline that ricocheted around Canada and much of the world. Meanwhile, several other First Nations that had at one time hosted residential schools hired their own anthropologists armed with GPR and announced similar discoveries. Weeks later, almost exactly a year ago, in June 2021, the Cowessess First Nation announced the discovery of 751 unmarked graves at the site of another former residential school in Saskatchewan.

Dozens Of Sailors Confirm U.S. Warships Were Swarmed By ‘At Least 100’ UFOs: Report

Sailors on a fleet of U.S. Navy warships sailing off the coast southern California coast reportedly saw several ships in the convoy get “swarmed” by a host of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

“The incident went on for hours, and then happened again and again throughout the month, with craft hovering and zipping around near the fleet with flashing multicolored lights,” the Daily Mail reported about the July 2019 incident.

Reddit Bans Popular Anti-Woke Subreddit For Sharing Gender Critical Posts

In the wee hours of Monday morning, June 21, down came the Reddit ban hammer. The popular subreddit TumblrInAction, with almost 500,000 active users, and its little sister sub, SocialJusticeInAction, with 96,000 users, each received a no-warning ban for “promoting hate” on the platform.

What did these Redditors do wrong to merit such a punishment? These subs allowed users to post anti-woke and often truthful, gender-critical content that pushed “identity invalidation.” Reddit’s victims had employed free speech on the platform, thus becoming popular and therefore had to go.

Biden’s Energy Crisis

The ongoing world energy crisis, which began in 2021 and has caused record price spikes for oil, natural gas and coal — in combination with Russia’s war on Ukraine — seems to have proven for once and all that energy independence is a matter of national security. Both Europe and the US have recently had to relearn this lesson — yet again — when Russian President Vladimir Putin cut gas supplies to a number of European countries after they refused to pay in Russian rubles — and before that, when the West was confronted with the need to sanction Russian oil and gas exports, while at the same time being dependent on them.

US President Joe Biden let nearly two weeks go by after Putin invaded Ukraine, before announcing that he would finally ban US imports of Russian oil, natural gas and coal, which, until then, had been helping to pay for Putin’s war on Ukraine. In 2021, 36% of Russian government revenues came from the sale of oil and gas.

Crypto crash threatens North Korea’s stolen funds as it ramps up weapons tests

SEOUL (Reuters) – The nosedive in cryptocurrency markets has wiped out millions of dollars in funds stolen by North Korean hackers, four digital investigators say, threatening a key source of funding for the sanctions-stricken country and its weapons programmes.

North Korea has poured resources into stealing cryptocurrencies in recent years, making it a potent hacking threat and leading to one of the largest cryptocurrency heists on record in March, in which almost $615 million was stolen, according to the U.S. Treasury.

Al Qaeda chief is minced by US ‘ninja missile’

A US drone strike in northwestern Syria has killed a leader of a local jihadist group affiliated to Al-Qaeda.

The precision strike, carried out on Monday just before midnight (2100 GMT) on the eastern edge of the city of Idlib, killed Abu Hamzah al-Yemeni – the leader of the Hurras al-Deen group – as he was riding his motorbike along a dirt road.

Images from the scene showed the twisted remains of a motorcycle strewn across the ground, suggesting the missile scored a direct hit on its target.

GUNTER: Feds admit their plastics ban will actually increase waste

Here’s something I’ll bet you didn’t know about the federal government’s ban on single-use plastics.

In the Environment department’s own “regulatory impact assessment,” federal researchers claimed, “the proposed regulations would prevent approximately 1.6 million tonnes of plastics from entering the waste stream over the analytical period.” That’s 2023 to 2032. But the ban “would also add about 3.2 million tonnes of other materials to the waste stream from the use of substitutes.”

R&B star R Kelly, 55, sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and racketeering over 25 years

Disgraced R&B star R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for sex trafficking and abusing young girls as the judge told him ‘the public has to be protected.’

Kelly, 55, was convicted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges last September following a nearly six-week trial that amplified accusations that had dogged the singer of the Grammy-winning hit ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ since the early 2000s.

Judge Ann M. Donnelly handed down Kelly’s sentence in Brooklyn Federal Court on Wednesday, despite the defense lawyers’ request for a sentence of 10 years or less. Prosecutors had asked for at least 25 years.

Bad things are still happening in Uvalde

If you’ve been following the story of the mass shooting and ensuing police debacle in Uvalde, Texas, you probably remember Angeli Rose Gomez. She is the mother of two sons who attended the school and who received a call while working on a nearby ranch when the attack began. She dropped everything and rushed to the school to save her children, only to be detained and handcuffed by the police when she attempted to go inside. She was not having any of it. Shortly after that, she escaped and entered the school anyway, getting both of her kids out of there.
