Canada’s woefully short summer is now in full swing and it would be a killjoy thing to do to ask people to stop and ponder whether or not we’ll soon be back to governments eyeing a return to COVID-19 restrictions. But the question needs to be asked.

How hard could it be to tighten gun controls in Canada? Just ask Justin Trudeau

OTTAWA — Nowhere in the Liberal government’s latest attempt to craft clear, practical gun control legislation — by introducing a new handgun “freeze”— does it say “thou shalt not buy, sell, import, trade or transfer handguns.”

Instead, the mechanism to slap a freeze on the acquisition of handguns is found in the legalese of a 55-page bill — and accompanying regulations — that are typical of the morass that is firearms law in Canada.

It’s a classic example of the Liberals’ beleaguered efforts at gun control, which can often seem like more talk than action to its supporters and critics alike.

Charest accuses Poilievre campaign of inflating membership numbers

Conservative Party of Canada leadership contender Jean Charest is accusing rival Pierre Poilievre of exaggerating his membership count, calling the claim “Pierreinflation.”

The former Quebec premier says the Poilievre campaign’s assertion that they’ve signed up 311,958 Canadians thus far to support their team is “all spin.”

“At the rate it’s going, we call it ‘Pierreinflation’ in terms of recruiting members. I think he’s recruited members in the state of Maine and New Hampshire if you’re to follow his logic… He keeps inflating the numbers, no one believes the numbers,” he told CTV’s Question Period.

Entomo Farms in Peterborough is noisy, but you can still hear crickets.

They’re not pests the farm intends to whack out with pesticides — these orthoptera insects are its entire business, and, on any given day, around 100 million crickets call Entomo their home — at least until they end up on dinner plates.

Entomo is one of the largest edible bug farms in North America, producing everything from cricket powder and flour to barbecue-flavoured whole roasted crickets and mealworms.

Toronto bathhouse workers among first to be offered monkeypox vaccine

A concerted effort is now underway to curb the spread of monkeypox in Toronto.

Starting tomorrow, the first of several community-based vaccine clinics will be held in the city. This initial clinic will specifically be for workers at Toronto bathhouses.

Run by Toronto Public Health (TPH) in partnership with Gay Men’s Sexual Health Alliance (GMSH) and other community organizations, the goal of this program is to offer protection to those who have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for monkeypox, those with high risk contacts, and those who have a higher risk of being exposed to the virus.

Ban Monkey bath houses.

Masses in some Niagara Catholic schools cancelled by priests as Pride flags raised

Just days prior to the start of Pride Month, Niagara Catholic District School Board sent a letter announcing its decision — for the first time — to fly the Pride flag at all board schools and sites throughout the month of June.

The letter, written by director of education Camillo Cipriano, said Niagara Catholic is flying a locally created version of the flag designed by staff in the president’s office at Brock University.

Cipriano wrote, that while “not all of our families support flying the progress Pride flag … we see the flag as a very clear and public display that all who come to Niagara Catholic schools and sites are welcome, accepted, unconditionally loved and respected as children of God.”

Activist group ‘Ruth Sent Us’ tells protestors to target CHILDREN, home and church of Supreme Justice Amy Coney after Roe v Wade draft opinion was leaked

Activist group Ruth Sent Us is advocating for protests outside the home, church and children’s school of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett over her fierce opposition to abortion.

The pro-choice activists have been holding weekly protests outside the Virginia home of Barrett after the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion suggesting they may overturn Roe v Wade, paving the way for a national ban on abortion.

On Wednesday, Ruth Sent Us tweeted: ‘If you’re in the DC metro area, join us. Our protests at Barrett’s home moved the needle to this coverage.’

People this intent on baby murder should have their heads read.

Looking to rely on themselves, women are taking up hunting in record numbers in B.C.

They made Justin cry.

On a rainbow-coloured picnic table at what is usually a youth summer camp, a beaver carcass lies splayed across a garbage bag, a circle of blue-gloved women looking on.

As Christy Arsenault begins carefully cutting through a layer of muscle just below the beaver’s sternum and across its belly, to reveal its organs, game care instructor Nina Armitage provides guidance and tells the group that these skills can be applied to most other game, such as deer.

“You’ll see that the organs are attached to the spine,” Ms. Armitage tells the group. “If you were field dressing, you would hold your animal on a hill, belly side facing down. If you gently slide [your knife] against the spine, everything will naturally fall out.”

Chinese women savagely beaten in public after resisting sexual harassment

Nine men brutally assaulted a group of four females in a restaurant after one resisted to being sexually harassed.

In the footage, captured on CCTV in the northeastern city of Tangshan, a man is seen walking over to a seated woman and putting his hand on her back.

When she pushes his hand away, he continues to stand over her, striking her in the face when she asks him to leave.

Surge in gas prices pushing ride-hailing, taxi drivers on edge: ‘Very difficult’

Record-high gas prices in Canada are driving concerns for taxi and ride-hailing app workers across the country, with many struggling to make ends meet.

There was only one real surprise in the January 6 TV show trial

OK, I watched it. And if there’s anything about the first of the so-called “hearings” on the alleged “insurrection” of January 6, 2021 that surprised me, it wasn’t the predictably kangaroo-court nature of the affair, or even the Democrats’ brazen lying and selective omissions. What still managed to surprise me was the media’s complicity.
