While China’s reaction to Biden’s remarks was predictably negative, the Free World, after Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine, must not assume that Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping’s repeated pledge to “restore Taiwan to the Motherland” is mere chest-thumping.

A new survey suggests a growing number of Canadians are struggling with the rising cost of food as prices for basics like pasta, bread and meat all soar.
The poll from Food Banks Canada indicates hunger and food insecurity are increasing across the country, with lower-income Canadians hit hardest by inflation.
“It’s really hard to hear just how many people in this country are struggling,” Food Banks Canada CEO Kirstin Beardsley said in an interview Monday. “We found that nearly one in five Canadians report going hungry over the last two years.”
Canadian Bill Would Allow Doctors to Euthanize Dementia Patients
The Netherlands and Belgium already permit people diagnosed with dementia to sign an advance directive ordering themselves killed when they become incapacitated. This has even resulted in one case in which such a patient was euthanized despite resisting — and the government responded by changing the law to enable death-doctors to drug and euthanize such patients without permission.
Now Canada — which last year greatly loosened the criteria for euthanasia — may be on the verge of taking the same path. A bill has been filed in the Senate that would permit patients to order themselves killed without final consent if they become mentally incapacitated.

Nupur Sharma’s remarks, made in a TV debate about 10 days ago, have incensed Indian Muslims and outraged more than a dozen Islamic nations.
On Sunday, the BJP suspended Ms Sharma from the party. The head of the party’s Delhi media unit, Naveen Kumar Jindal, was also expelled for sharing a screenshot of her offensive comment in a tweet.

A UK cinema chain has cancelled all screenings of a “blasphemous” film about the daughter of the prophet Muhammad after branches were picketed by Muslim activists.
Cineworld said it took the decision to cancel all showings of The Lady of Heaven to “ensure the safety of our staff and customers”.
The cancellation was criticised by a House of Lords peer as being “disastrous for the arts, dangerous for free speech”.
