Progressive U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East deserves a tragicomic TV series called How to Undermine Friends and Empower Enemies.
The plotline of How to Undermine Friends and Empower Enemies is formulaic. The president, his advisers, and members of Congress pursue agreements, make statements, and introduce resolutions aggravating the Middle East through endangering allies and advancing the interests of adversaries. Main characters include Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran, while Hezbollah and Hamas play supporting roles.

KYIV, April 15 (Reuters) – Ukraine said on Friday it was trying to break Russian forces’ siege of Mariupol, with fighting raging around the city’s Illich steel works and port, as the capital Kyiv was rocked by some of the most powerful explosions in two weeks.
Russia said it had struck overnight what it said was a factory in Kyiv that made and repaired anti-ship missiles, in apparent retaliation for the sinking of the Moskva, the flagship of Moscow’s Black Sea fleet, on Thursday.

Does it shock anyone, really, to learn that 88-year-old veteran US Sen. Dianne Feinstein is exhibiting signs of dementia?
I’ll brace for angry emails from readers who still have landlines, dial-up modems and AOL addresses in making this argument: We’re long overdue for age limits on our legislators.
Commercial airline pilots are forced to retire at age 65. Air traffic controllers must retire at age 56.
Is Feinstein a trial run for Biden? President Kamala? God Forbid.

Captain Vasyl Kravchuk has a surprisingly ready smile for a man who has endured 50 days of war. We spoke to him via video link from his base at an undisclosed location.
He knows the coming weeks will offer no respite. Russia may have received a bloody nose in its aborted attempts to take Kyiv, but with the Eastern region of the Donbas now firmly in Moscow’s sights, the men and women of Dnipro’s Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade will continue to play a key role in the next phase of the war.
Man Defecates In Mosque In Broad Daylight To Win Bet
Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Thursday, ordered that two men, Nura Usman and Adamu Dauda, be remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly defecating in a mosque.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the police charged Usman and Dauda with public nuisance and inciting violence.

BEIJING, April 15 (Reuters) – Sun Jian, a 37-year-old master’s degree student in the Chinese city of Yantai, for months staged a solo campaign against his university’s COVID-19 prevention measures, including blistering criticism on social media.
The last straw for authorities came on March 27, when Sun walked around his campus carrying a placard that read “lift the lockdown on Ludong”.
Police detained him and on April 1 Ludong University expelled him, according to a letter from the university seen by Reuters.

Ukrainian officials have run more than 8,600 facial recognition searches on dead or captured Russian soldiers in the 50 days since Moscow’s invasion began, using the scans to identify bodies and contact hundreds of their families in what may be one of the most gruesome applications of the technology to date.

One of Joe Biden’s most politically savvy pollsters, John Anzalone, thinks that unless the current environment changes dramatically, Democrats are going to get their butts kicked.

Russia sent a formal warning to the US not to send more arms to Ukraine or it could face “unpredictable consequences”, it has been reported.
According to the Washington Post, Moscow sent a diplomatic note, a démarche, warning that US and Nato deliveries of the “most sensitive” weapons systems to Ukraine were “adding fuel” to the conflict there and could bring “unpredictable consequences”.
A spokesperson said the state department ddid not confirm any diplomatic correspondence as a matter of course, and made clear that the US would continue to send arms to Ukraine.
German chancellor ‘stalling on heavy weaponry to Ukraine’
… The centre-left leader had surprised even close partners in his three-party coalition when on 27 February he announced an “epochal change” in Germany’s foreign policy to boost defence spending and relax its restrictive stance on exporting weapons to conflict zones.
Six weeks on, prominent politicians from allied parties urged the Social Democrat to follow up words with actions after Germany was accused of stalling on delivering heavy weaponry to Ukraine and blocking a wholesale ban on Russian oil and gas.

“You are going to go through an ordeal,” a lawyer for British Islamic State Beatle El Shafee Elsheikh warned the jury at the start of his terrorism trial in Virginia last month.
What followed was a fortnight of some of the most harrowing testimony imaginable.
The 12 jurors at the Alexandria federal court were made to listen to audio recordings of the so-called Beatles’ victims pleading for their lives. They watched their subsequent execution videos, and looked at photographs of decapitated heads triumphantly displayed on spikes.

ROME, Italy — Pope Francis accused the West of racism Friday, insisting migrants are “subdivided” by skin color and country of origin.
“Refugees are subdivided,” the pontiff declared during a lengthy Good Friday interview on Italian television. “There’s first class, second class, skin color, [whether] they come from a developed country [or] one that is not developed.”
“We are racists, we are racists. And this is bad,” the pope stated.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — More than 900 civilian bodies have been discovered in the region surrounding the Ukrainian capital following the withdrawal of Russian forces — most of them fatally shot, police said Friday, an indication that many people were “simply executed.”
The number of dead is double that announced by Ukrainian authorities almost two weeks ago.
Andriy Nebytov, the head of Kyiv’s regional police force, said the bodies were abandoned in the streets or given temporary burials. He cited police data indicating that 95% died from gunshot wounds.
“Consequently, we understand that under the (Russian) occupation, people were simply executed in the streets,” Nebytov said.
Expert interview: What Russia did in Syria, may predict what happens next in Ukraine
First Syria and Chechnya, and now Ukraine — experts have already drawn many parallels between the Russian approach to conflicts in those areas.
Hanna Notte, a senior research associate with the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, focuses on security issues and arms control with a particular emphasis on where those intersect when it comes to Russia and the Middle East.
DW spoke to Notte about parallels she has observed in conflicts in Syria and now in Ukraine, and how that may help predict what happens next in Ukraine.

“Democracy Dies in Darkness” is the motto of the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post. It may sound like a warning, but more and more it seems like a summary of the left’s aspirations to control debate and shut down any opposition.
A recent example of those aspirations appeared in a column by former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich on Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s big buy of Twitter stock. The original headline — changed after widespread mockery — was this: “Elon Musk’s vision for the Internet is dangerous nonsense: Musk has long advocated a libertarian vision of an ‘uncontrolled’ internet. That’s also the dream of every dictator, strongman and demagogue.”

Islamization becomes irreversible when the Muslim population reaches 20%. French election results can speed the process or slow it.
“The British will be a minority by 2066”. The banner with those words flew over the heads of the spectators at the football match between Manchester City and Liverpool. A light plane with a banner attached passed over the Etihad Stadium, causing a wave of outrage on social media. “Who pays to fly these racist Etihad banners?”
Unfortunately, the phrase (“the British will be a minority by 2066”) does not come from an old English fascist like Mosley, but from David Coleman, the most important demographer in England, a professor at Oxford. “By 2066, whites born in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be outnumbered,” writes Coleman in the left-wing Prospect magazine. “The 50 percent threshold has no special demographic meanings, but it will have a considerable psychological and political impact and the transition from majority to minority will represent a huge change in cultural, political and religious identity.”
