Britain’s Own Lia Thomas

A 21-year-old male cyclist, Emily (formerly Zach) Bridges from Wales is set to become Britain’s own Lia Thomas. When competing against his biological sex, Bridges was a promising young cyclist. In 2018, he set a national junior men’s record in the 25-mile race. And he remained in the Great Britain Academy program as a male cyclist until 2020.

Why an ISIS Propagandist Abandoned Islam

On February 7, 2016, Musa Cerantonio told a friend that his fame as Australia’s best-known ISIS supporter had become a burden. Fellow ISIS supporters felt mysteriously compelled to email or call him before committing crimes. “Why,” Cerantonio lamented, “does everyone, before they do stupid shit, get in contact with me?” In this case, the doer of stupid shit was Alo-Bridget Namoa, the “Bonnie” half of the terror couple she herself had dubbed “the jihadi Bonnie and Clyde.” She and Clyde, a.k.a. Sameh Bayda, were both later convicted of terror offenses. Namoa had contacted Cerantonio, the Australian authorities tapping his phone later revealed, because she needed to know where to get an ISIS flag in Sydney. ISIS supporters were treating him like a jihadist help desk. If you see her, Cerantonio told his friend, “slap her for me.” Later that year, Cerantonio was arrested for trying to travel by boat from Australia to ISIS territory in the southern Philippines. He has been in prison ever since, and he has 13 months left on his sentence.

A convert who is now deradicalized? We’ll see.

Putin’s invasion scrambles the West

How has the Ukraine crisis affected political life in the West? Deeply but contradictorily. Vladimir Putin’s invasion wakened sleeping populations to eternal power realities, exacerbated leftist de-platforming, and bizarrely enhanced his appeal on the Right.

Power realities: A century-long peace following the Napoleonic wars left Europeans mentally unprepared for the carnage of World War I; similarly, the 77-year peace after World War II bred a faulty European assumption that trade and diplomacy could solve the continent’s problems. Military strength was seen as anachronistic as slavery. Slogans such as “There is no military solution” and “War never solved anything” prevailed.

Meanwhile, the non-West remains focused on the timeless verities of military might.

These Are Some of the Monsters Ketanji Brown Jackson Protected

Senate Republicans mishandled the Ketanji Brown Jackson hearings in the familiar way that politicians do. There were too many efforts by individual politicians to play to their social media audiences. And the hearings went ahead without the full release or availability of materials on her caseload.

While some conservatives opposed making the hearings about her work in child abuse cases, the material that is emerging continues to be horrifying.

Jon Stewart vs Andrew Sullivan on the problem with white people

Jon Stewart has a show on Apple TV called “The Problem with Jon Stewart.” It’s basically just “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” minus the accent and with the addition of some guests. Each week, Stewart sets up a new problem which he’s going to tackle. So far this season he’s looked at COVID restrictions, gun control, climate change, the media and this week’s topic: The Problem with White People.

Stewart was always an ass.

The Overton window for Christian beliefs is narrowing

In Finland, two people were tried simply for quoting the Bible

In 17th Century Europe, you’d have swung for blaspheming against the dominant church of the day. In 2022, you can now be criminalised for professing the scripture of that same faith.

A Bishop and a parliamentarian have been tried for ‘hate speech’ in Finland, in this case for merely quoting and affirming biblical views. In 2019 MP Päivi Räsänen, grandmother of seven, had sent a tweet, accompanied by a Bible verse, criticising her church for co-sponsoring the Helsinki Pride parade.

Democrats: Party Of Child Mutilators & Kidnappers

Yeah, yeah, squall about it all you want, but that’s exactly what the Democratic Party is, if you take seriously the Biden Administration’s newly released guidelines on health care for trans youth. Take a look:

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Population Affairs released a document Thursday titled “Gender Affirming Care and Young People.” The same day, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Child Traumatic Stress Network – another subset of the HHS – released a parallel document titled, “Gender-Affirming Care Is Trauma-Informed Care.”

‘Nothing about this felt OK’: The troubling debate over a ‘good’ death for all

He left soon after breakfast on a July morning. The 26th was warm, with a few clouds drifting high. Alan Nichols, gaunt and bearded, wore a green hospital gown. His sister-in-law, Trish, remembers sun glinting off the room’s yellow walls. Through the billowing white curtains, they could see three storeys down to the parking lot of the Chilliwack General Hospital.

Alan was livid that morning in 2019, recalls his brother, Gary. He was yelling at the doctor, “This is my moment! If you can’t do it here, then get me to someplace that can!” Later, gesturing to Gary and Trish, he blew up again, shouting, “We’re not even the same blood!”

The Biden Administration’s lies, errors, and miscalculations over Russia will probably hurt the American people more than Putin.

Trading Realpolitik for a Puppet Show

Aweek, as the British Prime Minister Harold Wilson is supposed to have said, is a long time in politics. Poor Joe Biden would doubtless agree, assuming that he remembers what a week, what a long time, and what politics are. It was just about a week ago, on March 26, that he said, “As a result of our unprecedented sanctions, the ruble was almost immediately reduced to rubble.”

I wonder who thought of that play on words? The ruble is rubble. Ha, ha, ha.
