Ontario reports 14 more COVID-19 deaths; under 1,200 hospitalizations
Ontario reported under 1,200 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and 14 net new deaths on Saturday, as hospitalizations continue to steadily decline.
There are currently 1,191 people battling the virus in Ontario hospitals, down from 1,704 a week ago, according to the Ministry of Health.
329 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 79% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 21% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 2,244 new cases of COVID-19.

More contagious BA.2 sub-variant spreading in Canada, complicating opening plans
The highly contagious Omicron sub-variant known as BA.2 is gaining a foothold in Canada just as provinces begin removing pandemic restrictions, according to newly released data.
The spread of BA.2, which is believed to be 1.4 times as contagious as the already highly transmissible BA.1 Omicron sub-variant, could complicate reopening plans now underway, or announced, in most provinces.
As he wandered the red zone of the protest site in Ottawa, David Freiheit appeared bashful about the reception he received, but also energized by it.
People wanted pictures with him, embraced him with whispers of support in his ear, and treated him like a celebrity. He was livestreaming for hours at a time, his quick legal mind providing commentary in between interviews with the people drawn to the protest, and to him.

OTTAWA — A group involved in the anti-government protest against COVID-19 measures in Ottawa is asking a court to put the brakes on federal use of the Emergencies Act to clamp down on demonstrators.
In submissions Friday to the Federal Court, Canadian Frontline Nurses and member Kristen Nagle seek an injunction staying the Liberal government’s use of the emergencies law and associated measures while their full case plays out in court.

Just over half of Canadians believe the country is ‘beyond broken’
After weeks of protests snarling downtown Ottawa and blockading border crossings, nearly two-thirds of Canadians have lost faith in the ability of the country to maintain peace, order and good government and 53 per cent have lost faith in the enforcement of the law, according to a new poll.
Turns out the lasting image of the Freedom Convoy protest at Parliament Hill will not be bouncy castles but that of a woman with a walker being trampled by a police horse.
The violence the Prime Minister has expressed concern about during the three-week protest in Ottawa didn’t unfold until Justin Trudeau’s Emergencies Act police army was sent in to disperse the crowd.
The three major incidents Friday, under a form of martial law, were grotesque.

If Canada, like much of Europe, often foretells the future of the United States, then conservatives ought to be watching Ottawa’s response to the ongoing trucker protest. This populist revolt against pandemic restrictions, among other things, has already scrambled debates over civil disobedience and demonstrations that impact innocent third parties.
The leaders of the Palestinian terror groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are continuing to urge Palestinians to take to the streets to engage in the jihad (holy war) against Israel.
These leaders are telling the Palestinians that those who are killed while carrying out attacks against Israel will be considered “heroes” and “martyrs.” They are also telling them that the Palestinians must continue the jihad “until the liberation of Palestine,” a euphemism for the elimination of Israel.
These are the messages that were recently sent to the Palestinians by Hamas leaders Khaled Mashaal and Ismail Haniyeh. Mashaal and Haniyeh are sending the messages from their five-star hotels and luxurious villas in Qatar.
A court in India has sentenced to death a record 38 people for a deadly terror attack in the Indian city of Ahmedabad in 2008, in which up to 20 bombs were set off across the city in hospitals, shopping centres and parks, leaving 56 dead.
It was the first time so many accused have received death sentences in a single case in the country. The sentence must be confirmed by a higher court. Judge AR Patel also sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment in the case.

A group of anti-pipeline protesters attacked a pipeline worksite in British Columbia, Canada early Wednesday morning in what appears to be a highly coordinated assault with axes and blockades that resulted in widespread destruction.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they are “investigating an incident where individuals allegedly engaged in a violent confrontation with employees of Coastal GasLink, and with attending police officers along the Morice River Forest Service Road near Houston, BC.”
The Canadian truckers are expressing the universal human aspiration to act like an American even if you aren’t one
An op-ed in the Washington Post about the Canadian truckers’ protest tells us that the idea of freedom is “White” with a capital W and that the truckers’ belief in freedom is “a key component of White supremacy.” This is about as sensible as saying that the idea of gravity is “English” or that the Post reports the news. True, Newton’s apple fell in England and the Post looks like a newspaper, but gravity is universal. The same goes for stupidity, though that takes many forms, and for the impulse to be free, though that too takes many forms, some of them stupid.
Taylor Dysart, the author of this insult to reason, is a white PhD student at private Ivy League university. Color me shocked.
