Paris court finds 10 guilty of harassing Brigitte Macron online

A Paris court has found 10 people guilty of online harassment of the French first lady, Brigitte Macron, by posting or reposting malicious comments on social media that claimed falsely that she was a man.

Eight men and two women, aged 41 to 60, including a school sports teacher, an art gallery owner and a publicist, were on Monday given sentences ranging from a compulsory course in understanding online harassment to an eight-month suspended prison sentence. One man, a property developer, who was absent from the trial hearings, was given a six-month prison sentence.

Some were also suspended from accessing the social media platforms on which they had made or reposted the comments.

‘This changes everything’: Here’s how Canada could be impacted by the U.S.’ abduction of Maduro

After the U.S. abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a military-raid, there was simultaneous celebration and global outcry.

While many Venezuelans praised the capture of a man widely considered to be an authoritarian ruler — who is being investigated by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity — protesters around the world also denounced the U.S.’s assault.

Cuba in a Panic

Few people are more upset about Nicolás Maduro’s arrest than the descendants of the Fidel Castro regime in Cuba. (Well, except for maybe the Democrats in Congress and other white leftists in the United States.)

Current Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has come out swinging against the Donald Trump administration’s recent actions both in person and on social media. But while he talks a good game about “imperialism,” his demeanor is anything but tough. The man is obviously terrified, and rightfully so.

The curse of Freeland about to strike Ukraine

In “Walt’s predictions for 2026” (WWW 31/12/25), I predicted that no matter how you slice it, the Ukraine is going to get sliced, diced and screwed in whatever “peace settlement” is negotiated this year. Sadly, I must now double down on that call, as it appears from this ayem’s news that the Ukraine is going to screw itself!

Eric Ham: Canada beware, Trump’s Venezuela invasion is a clear warning shot

WASHINGTON – A surprise pre-dawn raid on a sovereign country was the opening salvo by an American strongman hellbent on bringing the world’s most resource-rich nations under U.S. control.

In 2025, Donald Trump tested the reach of his authority, faced down the system of checks and balances and dared the world to push back. Meeting no resistance, the twice-impeached commander-in-chief orchestrated his fait accompli, stealing the world’s largest oil reserves with nary an outcry from the international community.

I think Canada will split apart frankly and given the way we’ve been abused by the Liberal Government this past decade that’s not really such a bad thing.

So long as Trump deports the migrants I’m good.

Canada faces possibility of ‘poisonous’ concessions to Trump as CUSMA negotiations begin this year

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In 2020, then U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer described the Canada-U.S.-Mexico free-trade agreement (CUSMA) as the “new gold standard against which all future trade agreements will be judged,” after the deal he helped put together was passed in the Senate. Six years later, in 2026, CUSMA will be facing scrutiny on its real-world results as the three countries begin renegotiating its terms.

Sewage in drinking water blamed for at least 10 deaths in India’s ‘cleanest city’

Sewage-contaminated drinking water is being blamed for killing at least 10 people, including a baby boy, and sending more than 270 others to hospital in Indore, ranked India’s “cleanest city” for the last eight years.

Residents of a congested, lower-income neighbourhood in Indore, Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital, had been warning authorities for months about foul-smelling tap water. Their complaints went unheeded, despite the city’s much-lauded ranking for waste segregation and other cleanliness measures.

“I have received information about 10 deaths due to a diarrhoea outbreak caused by contaminated water in the Bhagirathpura area,” said Indore’s mayor, Pushyamitra Bhargava. Sewage was mixing “in the main line leading from the water tank”, he added.

No doubt Canada’s Liberal party is looking to attract these geniuses.

‘Our minerals could be used to annex us’: why Canada doesn’t want US mining

The Outaouais region on the western edge of Quebec is home to thousands of lakes, vast forests and extensive wetlands. It is also the setting of a swathe of wooded land known as La Petite-Nation, which, although not far from the cities of Montreal and Ottawa, remains relatively untouched.

That, however, is to change with the arrival of a controversial graphite mine with financing from the Pentagon.

Lomiko Metals, a company based in British Columbia, is planning to build an open-air graphite mine in La Petite-Nation. Once operational, the mine will produce 100,000 tonnes of graphite for 15 years.

Warning Guardian ahead.

Drug addict International student who stole $800 in butter gets conditional discharge

An international student from India who stole about $800 in butter from a Kitchener grocery store was not a “prolific baker,” a judge clarified in court, but more likely part of an organized theft ring.

In a Kitchener court last week, Justice John Lynch granted the man a conditional discharge while wondering aloud if the student was perhaps not the cream of the crop.

Why wasn’t he air dropped over India?
