Jake Davison, a 22-year-old apparent fan of the New York Giants football team, was identified Friday as the gun-obsessed man behind Thursday’s bloodbath in Plymouth that a local MP decried as “unspeakably awful.”
Enough is enough. The Jewish community is tired of the silence by Canadians over calls of genocide from pro-Palestinian groups. Quite frankly, as a peace activist, this sickens me more today than in the past two decades when these calls were confined to university campuses.
The silence of Canadians?
Silent because they have voluntarily or otherwise left the social media swamp of dictated correct opinion?
Could it be that these “silent Canadians” have elected to “self-censor” due to the Liberal Party’s impending internet cleansing?
Silent because the “news” is bought and paid for government propaganda?
And what of it? It’s likely they’re all Islamophobes anyway, just as our PM says.
Who needs to hear from transphobic cis-gendered white supremacists who stand against all that is holy in our progressive multicultural rainbow of diversity!

Erin O’Toole seeks intervenor status in Winnipeg virus lab case
Opposition Leader Erin O’Toole is seeking intervenor status in a court battle over unfettered access to government documents that, if they were released unredacted, would offer insight into the firing of two scientists from Canada’s top infectious-disease laboratory.
A lawyer for the Conservative Party Leader wrote Federal Court of Canada Justice Catherine Kane on Thursday, seeking leave to intervene and asking to discuss the request. Intervenor status would give Mr. O’Toole the ability to make arguments in the case.

Canada sending forces to close Afghan embassy: official
TORONTO — Canadian special forces will deploy to Afghanistan where Canadian embassy staff in Kabul will be evacuated before closing, a source familiar with the plan told The Associated Press.
The official, who was not authorized to talk publicly about the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity, did not say how many special forces would be sent.
Taliban sweep across Afghanistan’s south; take 4 more cities
The Taliban completed their sweep of Afghanistan’s south on Friday as they took four more provincial capitals in a lightning offensive that is gradually encircling Kabul, just weeks before the U.S. is set to officially end its two-decade war.
The latest significant blow was the loss of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, where American, British and allied NATO forces fought some of the bloodiest battles in the past 20 years. Hundreds of foreign troops were killed in the province, which is also a major opium hub.
Ontario reports 510 new COVID-19 cases; 4 new deaths
Ontario is reporting 510 new COVID-19 cases and four new deaths on Friday, with the province’s known active case burden rising to a level not seen since late June.
The province reported 513 new cases on Thursday and 324 on Wednesday.
The seven day rolling average of new infections now stands at 399, up from 375 yesterday and about 200 one week ago.
‘Stay open’: Businesses urge provinces against lockdowns amid 4th wave of COVID-19
A group of Canadian businesses are calling on provincial governments to plan ahead and adopt “stay-open” strategies amid a fourth wave of COVID-19 that many experts warn is already on our doorstep.
In a letter sent to Canada’s premiers, as well as in a newly launched petition, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) outlined several steps to help keep businesses open after more than a year of continued COVID-19 lockdowns across the country.
It is grossly unfair to judge all police officers based on the actions of a handful like Derek Chauvin, all Black people from the behavior of Patrisse Cullors and Black Lives Matter Global Network, or all Caucasians from the actions of swastika-waving white supremacists like Andrew Anglin. It is however reasonable to judge the fields of Gender and Women’s Studies, Feminist Studies, and similar academic programs from the endorsement by roughly a hundred such university departments of anti-Israel hate propaganda that denies Israel’s right to exist. The Palestine Action Toolkit, from the same Palestine Feminist Collective supported by these departments, goes even farther: “78% of historic Palestine was stolen to create the Israeli state. This catastrophe was greenlighted and supported by the United Nations.” In addition, “There is Only One Solution: Intifada! Revolution!” and “From the River to the Sea! Palestine Will Be Free!”
They have become a target of both speech-policing cops and violent extremists.

Last Thursday Joe Biden posed for a photo op with representatives from automobile manufacturers. They gathered there to mark the Biden administration’s plan to raise the miles-per-gallon standard that gasoline powered vehicles must achieve––52 MPG by 2026. The compensation for automakers will comprise more regulatory credits for carmakers and subsidies for electric vehicle (EV) consumers, which will lead to higher prices for trucks and SUVs to offset their losses on EVs. This means consumers of those popular vehicles will be subsidizing EV drivers. And more taxpayer money will go to increasing available electricity, providing more and faster charging stations, and improving battery capacity.
The mayor of a town in New Jersey where Ben & Jerry’s owner Unilever is headquartered has blasted the ice cream firm for its vow to stop selling ice cream in the West Bank to boycott Israeli settlements.
Ben & Jerry’s has been embroiled in an ongoing saga of boycotts and criticism after the company released a statement on July 19 that selling ice cream in ‘Occupied Palestinian Territory’ was ‘inconsistent with our values.’
The Pentagon is sending 3,000 troops back into Afghanistan to help evacuate some personnel from the US embassy amid the Taliban’s surging encroachment on the capital city of Kabul.
Those 3,000 troops, part of three infantry battalions, are in addition to the over 650 US service members still currently stationed in Afghanistan.
Another 3,500 to 4,000 reserve forces will be stationed in Kuwait on standby, and another 1,000 will go to Qatar to help with Special Immigrant Visa processing.
Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said: ‘We believe this is it the prudent thing to do given the rapidly deteriorating security situation in and around Kabul.’

The season is almost upon us of lachrymose memorials to the victims of 9/11. As a nation we choke each year as the anniversary approaches. We can talk about the heroic firefighters and cops, those first-responders who that day sometimes made their last response. We can recount the lists of the dead and the daring of some survivors. A great many Americans remember in vivid detail how the horrors of that day intersected their own lives. What we don’t have is a strong sense of what 9/11 meant and still means to the nation.
The recent release of the Intelligence Authorization Act for fiscal year 2022 brought with it more confirmation of the government’s ongoing interest in examining reports of unidentified aerial phenomena spotted by members of our military. The Senate is calling on all elements of our military and intelligence agencies to cooperate in sharing information, dedicate more resources to the project, and release follow-on reports. For those interested in the topic, this is potentially good news, provided at least some of it makes its way out to the public as was done in June.
