German spy chief warns of Islamic State’s strength

The head of Germany’s foreign intelligence agency, the BND, has given a rare interview specifically to warn that, despite appearances, terrorism remains a real threat to world order, even 20 years after 9/11.

Speaking to the Süddeutsche Zeitung on Monday, Bruno Kahl said that, though Europe and the US had not seen any more major terrorist attacks like those of two decades ago, “Islamist terrorism has developed further, and cost very many human lives. The number of terrorist actors and the danger they pose has increased.”

The wellspring of Lake Mead created by the dam’s blocking of the Colorado River has plummeted to an historic low as states in the west face hefty cuts in their water supplies

Had the formidable white arc of the Hoover dam never held back the Colorado River, the US west would probably have no Los Angeles or Las Vegas as we know them today. No sprawling food bowl of wheat, alfalfa and corn. No dreams of relocating to live in a tamed desert. The river, and dam, made the west; now the climate crisis threatens to break it.

The situation here is emblematic of a planet slowly, inexorably overheating. And the catastrophic consequences of the extreme weather this brings.

Just like how people paid Bill Clinton $500,000 to speak for an hour when Hillary was secretary of State, or how the Clintons accepted “donations” to their Clinton Foundation–until Hillary lost when the “donations” dried up. Hunter’s scheme is way more clever as it doesn’t involve having to get on a plane or report anything other than a “sale” to those pesky IRS agents.

Toronto board of trade calls for vaccine passports for non-essential activities

TORONTO – The Toronto Region Board of Trade is calling on the Ontario government to introduce a vaccine passport system for non-essential business activity.

Quebec has signalled it will require vaccine passports for non-essential activities by September and Manitoba is issuing vaccine cards to fully immunized people.

Make their businesses non-essential.

Jamaica wants £7 BILLION compensation from UK for Britain’s involvement in slave trade over hundreds of years

Jamaica is planning to ask the United Kingdom for compensation for the Atlantic slave trade in the former British colony, a senior government official said.

The Caribbean island nation will file a petition that could seek billions of pounds in reparations, pending legal advice, according to Olivia Grange, Jamaica’s minister of sports, youth and culture.

She said the country hoped for ‘reparatory justice in all forms’ to ‘repair the damages that our ancestors experienced’.

Didn’t we have a Jamaican gang problem here? Maybe we should ask Jamaica for reparations.

Google fined €500m by French competition authority

Google has been hit with a €500m (£427m) fine by France’s competition authority for failing to negotiate “in good faith” with news organisations over the use of their content.

The authority accused Google of not taking an order to do so seriously.

Google told the BBC the decision “ignores our efforts to reach an agreement”.

The fine is the latest skirmish in a global copyright battle between tech firms and news organisations.

Last year, the French competition authority ordered that Google must negotiate deals with news organisations to show extracts of articles in search results, news and other services.

Parents rallied to the defense of the teacher, Ferrara and the student, agreeing that the youngster intended to show how truly “horrible” Hitler was by how he must have viewed himself.

I’m inclined to agree, well intentioned but perhaps poorly executed.

On July 6, U.S. Central Command announced that the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan was more than 90 percent complete. The Taliban then began to attack and capture territory. At the same time, the Taliban said publicly that it sees China “as a friend” for the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
