He faces a bitter backlash from Muslim communities in Labour-held Batley and Spen, with even his wife Victoria’s Jewish heritage apparently being cited as one reason not to vote Labour.

Starmer loyalists last night hit back at what they said were ‘repellent and repugnant’ attempts to draw Mrs Starmer into the West Yorkshire by-election battle, where polls have put the Tories on course to snatch the Red Wall seat.

Trudeau’s promise to donate 100m doses raises doubts about Canada’s seriousness in helping poorer countries vaccinate

Canada has secured enough potential coronavirus vaccines to fully protect every resident nearly seven times over, even as a global shortage has forced poorer nations to wait.

After initial hiccups with its vaccination plan, more than 65% of Canadians have now received at least one dose, edging ahead of early leaders Israel and the UK, and on Friday, Justin Trudeau said 68m doses will have arrived in Canada by the end of July.

But a recent pledge by Canada to donate 100m doses to hard-hit countries, has highlighted persistent questions about its commitment to addressing such inequities.

45 shot, 5 fatally, since Friday evening in Chicago

At least five people have been killed and 40 others wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

In the most recent fatal attack, a man was shot dead while driving in Humboldt Park early Sunday.

The 21-year-old was driving a Jeep about 1:40 a.m. in the 3100 block of West Augusta Boulevard when a car pulled up next to him and someone inside fired shots, Chicago police said.

This was an execution.

Why Shutdowns and Masks Suit the Elite

A marvelous review in these pages last November inspired me to read a new book by O. Carter Snead, “What It Means to Be Human: The Case for the Body in Human Bioethics.” It was published by Harvard University Press on Oct. 13. Covid-19 had begun its transformation of American life a few months before, and of course the book made no mention of it.

Yet Mr. Snead’s volume helped explain the bizarre and at times perverse response of prosperous Western nations to the pandemic: the long discontinuation of economic life, the belief that pixelated screens can facilitate human relationships, the prohibitions on ordinary social interactions, the fetishization of masks. These policies and practices weren’t handed down from the ether by Reason and Science but bore the weight of contemporary assumptions about—to borrow Mr. Snead’s title—what it means to be human.

By welcoming a former Green MP who is so biased against Israel she could not tolerate her leader calling for peace in the Mideast or a colleague speaking out about anti-Semitism, the Liberals have exposed their hypocrisy on these issues, and left Canadians wondering whether the Trudeau government is trying to play both sides in order to win votes.

Thanks to Canada’s destructive mass immigration policy Islamists are the ascendant demographic relative to the Jewish population, roughly 1.2 million to four hundred thousand respectively.

Add to the mix a generation or two of useful idiots churned out by our ideologically depraved “anti-Zionist” universities and the writing is on the wall.

“Defund the police” has become a popular phrase among leftist activists, gaining momentum during a rash of Black Lives Matter protests and riots last summer following the police-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May 2020.

As news of these protests spread through the media, local governments across the country quickly started acquiescing to the demand. Cities such as New York and Los Angeles significantly cut cut funding for their police departments, while Minneapolis City Council went further, introducing a measure to try and outright abolish and replace its police department.

At the G7 summit in Cornwall last weekend, US President Joe Biden warned his fellow-summiteers that unless something was done “China would eat our lunch.” Did Biden overegg the pudding with his colorful language or is the world ignoring the invisible chopsticks at work?

In a sense China, as the biggest trading partner of almost all the G7 members, is already eating part of their lunch while it is clear that without Western investment, technology and, of course, markets, China might have remained hungry and stuck between the madness of Maoism and the inertia of Ah-Quism.

Proposed changes to a bylaw regulating massage parlours in Newmarket are racist and discriminate against the Asian women who work in them, community advocates say.

Newmarket town council, which is expected to ratify the changes on Monday, recently voted to change the name of body rub or massage parlours to “personal wellness establishments.” Now, it’s looking at new rules governing the operation of the businesses and the qualifications of the “personal wellness attendants” employed in them.

Iran’s sole nuclear power plant undergoes emergency shutdown

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s sole nuclear power plant has undergone an unexplained temporary emergency shutdown, state TV reported on Sunday.

An official from the state electric energy company, Gholamali Rakhshanimehr, said on a talk show that the Bushehr plant shutdown began on Saturday and would last “for three to four days.”

He said that power outages could result. He did not elaborate but this is the first time Iran has reported an emergency shutdown of the plant, located in the southern port city of Bushehr. It went online in 2011 with help from Russia. Iran is required to send spent fuel rods from the reactor back to Russia as a nuclear nonproliferation measure.

Mayor Tory Shocked By Shooting Insults Legal Gun Owners

… Toronto Mayor John Tory described the shooting as “irresponsible, outrageous behaviour” during an interview with CP24 on Sunday morning.

“There is no other way to put it,” said an exasperated Tory who urged anyone with information to come forward and speak to the police.

“I don’t know why anybody in the city of Toronto needs to have a handgun of any kind — and then of course using them in a circumstance like this or anywhere. For that matter, but around children. I mean, who does that?” he said.

As usual Ban E’m All Tory makes no distinction between criminals using guns and law abiding legal gun owners, what a twit.

Meanwhile, your other opponent with more chips sits quietly behind his cards while his paid spies behind your chair signal him the contents of your hand.

A national poll this spring showed a sharp divide between Democrats and Republicans over whether Russia or China is America’s greatest international adversary. Democrats, perhaps still seething from Russia’s clumsy efforts to sway the 2016 election to Donald Trump, see Vladimir Putin as a Bond movie villain and master manipulator. Republicans focused on commerce, cyber-security, and Asian ascension, look at emerging China as their greatest threat.
