Douglas Todd: The promise and pitfalls of foreign-trained clergy in Canada

” … There are two major conversations about foreign-trained clergy, said Kazemipur.

One is what he calls the “outside conversation,” in which non-Muslims focus on the potential politicization or radicalization of Muslims. The other is the more refined “conversation within,” which focuses on adapting Islam to democratic societies that orient to free expression and sexual liberation.

It is largely the internal conversation that’s reflected in a new book by Ed Husain, an Arab scholar who quietly toured many of the 2,000 mosques serving Britain’s three million Muslims. While his book, Among the Mosques, applauds the way many Muslims have integrated into British society, Husain also found some Muslim communities distancing themselves from British culture while advocating strict versions of the faith, including religious literalism, gender separation and negative attitudes to gays and lesbians.”

Our security services do not surveille mosques.

Google pursues tech to measure how white you are

To be at least somewhat fair to Google, their push to develop new technology to “measure skin tone” also measures how brown or Black you are. And at least on the surface, they’re not talking about a system to provide digital enhancements to Critical Race Theory programs. (Or at least… not yet.) The new project, as described to Reuters, is purportedly trying to improve facial recognition software and determine if many of the programs available on the market today are “biased” against persons of color.

Gang life, not racism, is responsible for Chicago’s violence, alderman says

Residents in one Chicago ward are “giving up” on calling the police as the city fails to protect them from violent crime, according to one city council member.

Alderman Raymond Lopez described the violence plaguing his constituents in the city’s 15th Ward and beyond, slamming Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot, whose law enforcement policies and focus on systemic racism, he said, are doing little to stop the mostly gang-related violence.

Numbers Don’t Lie, Liberals Lie: A Real Look at Illegal Immigrant Crime

Numbers Don’t Lie, Liberals Lie: A Real Look at Illegal Immigrant Crime

Liberals Make Rape Easy

For the party that supposedly supports women, Democrats make it really easy for rapists to enter the country illegally. Libs always fall back on certain talking points in regard to crimes committed by illegal immigrants. My favorite lib twist is, “They don’t commit as many crimes as Americans.” Maybe, but guess what? There are more Americans living here; hence, Americans commit more crimes. Guess who commits more crimes in China? The Chinese. Duh.

More Than an Exodus: Dropping Birth Rates Threaten California’s Future

As California’s population drops due to a mass exodus of residents escaping high taxes, exorbitant housing costs, and increasing homelessness, there’s another factor that’s been quietly contributing to the downturn: the declining birth rate.

Data shows that while the Golden State’s population continues to grow old, young adults are having fewer kids.

The Biden Administration’s Iran Policy: All Carrots, No Stick

The Biden Administration’s Iran Policy: All Carrots, No Stick

Since the Biden administration assumed office, it has been increasingly appeasing the Iranian regime, which in return, is further emboldening and empowering the mullahs.

The first appeasement came when the administration changed the previous administration’s policy of maximum pressure to a policy of appeasement toward the Iran’s proxy militia group, the Houthis. Even as evidence — including a report by the United Nations — showed that the Iranian regime is delivering sophisticated weapons to the Houthi militia group in Yemen, the Biden administration suspended some of the sanctions against terrorism that the previous administration imposed on the Houthis. The previous US administration had designated Iran’s proxies, the Houthis, a terrorist group.

‘Every step we take’ could be monitored and analysed if facial recognition tech isn’t reined in, UK data watchdog warns

The head of the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has raised alarm over the potential abuses of facial recognition software, after several investigations found that the technology was not being properly deployed.

UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham noted in a blog post published on Friday that facial recognition technology can be harnessed to make our lives more efficient and secure, but said there was a clear danger that it could be misused.

Live facial recognition (LFR) technology capable of scanning people’s faces in real time as they walk down the street or enter a shop can be used “inappropriately, excessively or even recklessly,” the head of the UK data watchdog said, noting that there could be “significant” consequences if sensitive personal data were collected on a mass scale without people even knowing they were being monitored.

Teen Vogue Fears ‘Juneteenth Car Sales’

June 19 or “Juneteenth National Independence Day” is now a federal holiday. On that day in 1865 Union soldiers finally made it to Galveston, Texas, and enslaved blacks learned they were free. It can and should be a unifying holiday, and one that signifies how far our country has come. Or, if you’re one of the hard leftists at Teen Vogue you can take the opportunity to event to moan about how white people ruin everything.

That’s what Jameelah Nasheed did.  Before the bill even reached Biden’s desk Nasheed was ragging on white people for “whitewashing” the holiday.
