Multiple sources told the Star Tribune federal prosecutors were ready to move in and charge the white ex-cop on federal counts moments after a not guilty verdict on charges of second and third-degree murder, as well as manslaughter, or in the event of a mistrial.
Department of Justice prosecutors now also plan to bring civil rights violations charges – akin to hate crimes – against Chauvin and the three other cops on duty with him when Floyd was killed in May 2020.

Two Toronto-based politicians are pressing a Chinese-Canadian doctor to remove a sign on his office door – in Chinese – that refers to COVID-19 as the “Wuhan pneumonia,” complaining the wording could incite anti-Asian hatred.
Vincent Ke, a Progressive Conservative member of the provincial legislature with a history of ties to the Chinese government, said Kong may have made an innocent mistake, but it doesn’t matter that the mention of Wuhan was in Chinese.
“No matter the language spoken or written, the term ‘Wuhan pneumonia’ to describe the COVID-19 virus is not just incorrect, it is inflammatory,” a spokesman for the politician said by email.

Hundreds of travellers landing in Canada test positive for COVID-19 variants
OTTAWA – More than 2,000 people returning to Canada since mandatory hotel quarantines began have tested positive for COVID-19 and more than a quarter of them were infected with a variant of concern.
The data supplied to The Canadian Press by the Public Health Agency of Canada comes as the federal government is being pressured to take even more steps to keep new variants from getting into the country.
Data shows between Feb. 22 and April 11, 2,018 returning travellers tested positive on a test taken when they arrived in the country.

A North Carolina prosecutor said Andrew Brown Jr. hit law enforcement officers with his car before they opened fire, while a judge ordered a 10-day delay for the release of body camera footage in his fatal shooting on April 21.
District Attorney Andrew Womble told a judge at a hearing Wednesday he disagreed with a characterization by attorneys for the family of Brown that his vehicle was stationary when the shooting started, citing body camera footage he saw.
The video showed Brown’s car made contact with law enforcement twice before gunfire was heard on the video, Womble claimed, according to WSOC-TV.
