‘Not a tax at all’: O’Toole on party’s carbon price loyalty program

OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is pushing back against criticism by some that a key pillar of the party’s new climate plan is akin to a carbon tax, a Liberal-instituted policy he has long criticized.

In an interview on CTV’s Question Period airing Sunday, O’Toole says the party’s proposed carbon pricing mechanism is “not a tax at all” because money is not collected by the government.

It’s just like Interac says O’Toole! Really he said that.

Ontario reports 4,250 new COVID-19 cases as hospitals set new occupancy record

Ontario reported 4,250 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday as well as 18 additional deaths, as overall hospital admissions and ICU occupancy increased to new whole-pandemic highs.

Ontario reported 4,362 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, and hospitalizations as counted by the Ministry of Health surpassed 2,000 for the first time in the whole pandemic.

Ontario walks back new pandemic police powers following widespread backlash

TORONTO — TORONTO – Ontario reversed course on sweeping new police powers Saturday, just one day after Premier Doug Ford announced the measures that triggered a swift and furious backlash.

Officers will no longer have the right to stop any pedestrian or driver to ask why they’re out or request their home address, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones said in a written statement on Saturday evening.

Instead, she said, police will only be able to stop people who they have reason to believe are participating in an “organized public event or social gathering.”

Experts find more evidence COVID-19 is airborne, that we need to rethink indoor spaces

The authors of a new paper that found increasingly concrete evidence that COVID-19 is “predominately” airborne say that we need to be focusing on preventing infections in indoor settings, and rethinking how ventilation systems either help spread or dissipate the virus.

Racism in America: A one-way street

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but everyone is painfully aware of the fanatical obsession with racism that’s tearing this country apart. Thanks to BLM/Marxist activists (some of whom are anti-capitalists who purchase million-dollar homes), so-called social justice warriors, and power-mad (mostly) Democrat politicians, the scarlet letter R is almost always branded on white people. They are aided and abetted by the propagandists in the mainstream media. But an examination of Department of Justice crime statistics, which anyone can access, paints a very different picture from what you’ll hear on CNN. Real-life experience can help as well, especially for those who have spent even a moderate amount of time in urban America.

The ADL Is Not Jewish and No Longer Speaks for Jews

Under Jonathan Greenblatt, they’ve lost focus, attacking conservatives instead of fighting anti-Semitism.

Imagine that a group of prominent Catholic “human-rights activists” issues statements condemning the pope and the Vatican for their stands opposing gay marriage and abortion on demand. Actually, it happens all the time. Probably the two most powerful Catholics in America, who also double as two of the most powerful people in America — Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, both of whom go out of their ways regularly to tell us that they are devout Catholics — are two of the leading movers in the Western world for supporting gay marriage, all kinds of transgender theories and practices, and legalizing not only abortion on demand but even post-birth terminating of newborns whose parents did not intend to have them. And did we mention other prominent Catholics like, say, the Honorable Gov. Andrew Cuomo, he of abortion on demand for fetuses, COVID by his demand in nursing homes, and women by his command whenever? What — does that guy think he lives in a tree house where no one sees him?

Why does France’s youth support Marine Le Pen?

The Right-wing leader is on course to gain young voters to next year’s election

If it was left to youngish French people, Marine Le Pen would probably be elected President of the Republic next May. There has been a radical shift in her favour among French 25-34 year olds, according to a recent Elabe poll (figures confirmed in other surveys by Ipsos and Ifop).

The figures are disturbing if you fear a French lurch to the far-Right next year. They need to be read with caution. Younger and older age groups are more favourable to President Emmanuel Macron.

The rise of hate-crime hoaxes on American campuses

Why are there so many incidents of invented or imagined racist hostility?

Another racial hoax has occurred on an American campus, this time at Albion College, a small liberal arts institution in Michigan.

Racist graffiti was found on the walls of Albion’s Mitchell Towers last week. The graffiti consisted of racist slurs, including the N-word, anti-Semitic references, and allusions to a Ku Klux Klan presence on campus. Investigations quickly revealed that a black male student was responsible for the vandalism. He was caught on video and confessed to authorities.

WNBA & Nike cancel jersey commemorating WW II female army pilots because no black women were allowed

An effort by the WNBA’s Dallas Wings to honor women pilots who helped the US military during World War II has been canceled as offensive, after critics noted black people hadn’t been allowed to join the female flying force.

The Dallas team’s new ‘Rebel Edition’ jersey, which Nike introduced earlier this month as part of a collection of new Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) uniforms, was meant to pay tribute to the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs). The WASPs helped the war effort amid a manpower shortage by testing and delivering planes for the Army Air Forces. However, Nike, the WNBA, and the Wings said on Friday that the jersey wouldn’t be worn by the team or marketed to their fans after all, because they had since learnt the WASP corps hadn’t accepted black pilots.

Journalists, Learning They Spread a CIA Fraud About Russia, Instantly Embrace a New One

That Russia placed “bounties” on the heads of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan was one of the most-discussed and consequential news stories of 2020. It was also, as it turns out, one of the most baseless — as the intelligence agencies who spread it through their media spokespeople now admit, largely because the tale has fulfilled and outlived its purpose.

In Colorado, thousands receive “useless” first vaccination

No, this isn’t a story about the J&J vaccine, which is still on “pause” anyway. But it’s yet another headline that the nation didn’t need as the vaccination effort rolls on. Out in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the Dr. Moma Health and Wellness Clinic, a vaccination pod had been set up and in operation for several months. But on April 6, something went seriously wrong.

Biden Continues to Mishandle His Own Border Crisis

How to make the illegal immigration surge even worse.

The Biden administration is increasingly desperate in the face of the migration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border that Biden’s progressive open-door policies have created. Illegal unaccompanied minors are flooding into this country, overwhelming available government resources to shelter and care for them. The Biden administration is already reportedly spending more than $60 million a week to house these minors now in federally run shelters. Many more are illegally crossing the border every day and are being added to the thousands allowed to remain in the United States.

Why do Ben & Jerry’s want to defund the police?

The radicalization of the Ben & Jerry’s PR department has been one of the stranger spectacles of recent years. After all, for all its hippyish origins and homespun shtick, Ben & Jerry’s is a corporate giant flogging expensive ice creams with wacky names like Cherry Garcia and Truffle Kerfuffle. And yet it has become remarkably preoccupied with virtue-signaling and moral hectoring. It is hard to tell whether this is a deliberate strategy for attention, or if someone’s pious nephew has simply seized control of the social-media accounts at head office.

Government Confirms Leaked Video of UFO Is ‘Real’

The Department of Defense has confirmed that a video and photos leaked online in 2019 of several strangely shaped objects are not faked in any way and show three objects, virtually stationary, hovering in the vicinity of the Naval Air Station Oceania.

Just because the video and photos aren’t faked doesn’t mean they’re alien in origin. The office of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force concluded the craft do not behave like any known aerial phenomenon.

Erin O’Toole faces backlash from ‘surprised and frustrated’ Conservatives over carbon pricing plan

OTTAWA — When Conservative leader Erin O’Toole announced on Thursday that his party will include a carbon price on consumer fuels as part of their election platform, internal backlash was inevitable.

Scrapping “Trudeau’s carbon tax” is a core promise the Conservative Party has made to its supporters for years. O’Toole won the Conservative leadership race last year while repeatedly promising to get rid of it, even signing a pledge that he would never introduce a carbon tax of his own.

Warnings ignored, action delayed: Ontario’s road to its most dire COVID crisis

When Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the current stay-at-home order on April 7, he said the province’s COVID-19 crisis had become worse than predicted.

“The capacity at the ICUs and these variants have taken off even beyond what they told us,” the premier said. “And the second I found out yesterday, immediately I asked them to start writing up the orders.”

But modelling presented two months earlier signalled the trouble to come. And on April 1, the week before Ford’s announcement, projections showed a new stay-at-home order would be crucial to getting the increasingly devastating third wave under control.
