Ontario reports 1,913 new Covid cases

Ontario is reporting 1,913 cases of #COVID19 and over 34,500 tests completed. Locally, there are 550 new cases in Toronto, 346 in Peel and 235 in York Region.

Due to a technical issue at Toronto Public Health, there is likely an underreporting of cases today.

The line is trending down but so are the number of “tests” being done. There’s already been talk of lifting at least some of the lockdown restrictions. This is all looking “political” to me.

Fewer Canadians holding out hope for summer reprieve from pandemic: Ipsos

It appears optimism over the timeline to get the coronavirus pandemic under control is dwindling among Canadians, with 47 per cent of those surveyed expecting a summer reprieve, down from 58 per cent in mid-December 2020.

However, more than two-thirds of Canadians surveyed are still confident that the pandemic will be under control by the end of the year and nearly eight in 10 are confident vaccines will help limit the spread of the virus.

Tory MP Sloan accuses party of hypocrisy over efforts to have him expelled

OTTAWA — Ontario Conservative MP Derek Sloan could be expelled from his party’s caucus as early as Tuesday for accepting a donation to his leadership campaign from a white supremacist.

But Sloan accused the party of hypocrisy, saying that Paul Fromm, who has been associated with Neo Nazis for years, was a party member and voted in last year’s leadership contest — a fact that would have been known to all candidates, including eventual winner Erin O’Toole, as well as the party itself.

Senate Prepares for Star Chamber Trial of Donald Trump

The U.S. Senate is preparing to put Donald Trump on trial after he has already left office at the end of his term and has become a private citizen once again. If the Senate proceeds with this star chamber proceeding, it will be acting in a blatantly unconstitutional manner.

Trump was impeached while still serving as president, on the grounds of alleged “incitement of insurrection.” The charge flowed from the mob attack on the Capitol building on January 6th, which followed Trump’s speech at a peaceful “Save America” rally at the Ellipse near the White House. However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not immediately send the article of impeachment to the Senate, which is necessary to trigger the Senate to proceed with the trial. In any event, the Senate has been on recess and is not returning until January 19th. The Senate is not planning to take up Trump’s trial until he is already out of office and the Democrats assume control of the Senate.

A councillor for the District of North Vancouver has incited a flanneled Twitter mob after lecturing his fellow Canadians about a pickup truck that he found to be… the embodiment of ‘violence glorification.’

Councillor Mathew Bond shared a photograph of what appears to be a White Dodge Ram with a suspension lift. To top it off, the vehicle has a large placard on the front grille that contains a skull and the phrase “global warmer.”

Kenney urges Biden to ‘show respect for Canada’ and sit down to talk before cancelling Keystone XL

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney wants U.S. president-elect Joe Biden to give the Canadian government a chance to make the case for building the Keystone XL pipeline.

Kenney will seek legal damages if reports are true that Biden plans to scrap the pipeline expansion project on his first day as U.S. president, the premier said Monday.

“We hope president-elect Biden will show respect for Canada and will sit down and at the very least talk to us,” Kenney said.

As politicians weigh in on KXL cancellation, Trudeau remains silent

Politicians from most federal and Alberta parties have thrown in their two-cents worth on the looming cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline expansion – everyone that is, except Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau has made no comment since it was reported last night that US President-elect Joe Biden would cancel the US$8 billion pipeline project the first day he’s in office on January 20.

His office said Monday morning he has no public comments planned.

Ontario has a stay-at-home order, so why are 5 movies filming in Hamilton?

While the Ontario government has asked the public to stay home and only leave when it is essential, it has also approved production crews to film movies in Hamilton.

A team of roughly 60 people in Ancaster is filming Loving Christmas, according to the city. It adds there are four other movies being filmed in Hamilton, but the city wouldn’t disclose any more information about them.

When 29-year-old Daniel Norwood saw the Ancaster crew working in front of the old town hall on Thursday morning, he says he had questions. He also says other locals are confused.

I can see the Cinespace parking lot from my balcony it’s always busy. This is an evil act of hypocrisy, a government letting the well connected off the hook while the little people face bankruptcy and eviction.

Solving the Vaccine Crisis

Americans are desperate to get vaccinated against COVID. Deaths are soaring, and new strains of the virus, including the UK strain and a newly discovered US strain reported for the first time last week, are reported to be even more contagious. Doctors are warning that as the virus becomes more infectious, even a trip to the supermarket with a mask is risky. Survival hinges on getting vaccinated.

Yet only a third of the vaccine doses shipped to the states by the federal government are actually making it into people’s arms. The public hears they may have to wait months. That is unacceptable.
