Oregon Hill

Oregon Hill is a working class neighborhood in Richmond, Va – I was born and raised in Richmond, and know Oregon Hill well, had many friends who lived there… a couple girlfriends too! I thought you might enjoy knowing some of the references in the song.

A river to the south to wash away all sins
A college to the east of us to learn where sin begins
A graveyard to the west of it all
Which I may soon be lying in

The river is the James, which Oregon Hill overlooks. Richmond is at the fall line, where the rocks are, and was as far as the settlers could sail – the city is built on 7 hills.

The ‘college to the east’ is VCU, located in the Fan District. I used to live about 2 blocks away from it.

The ‘graveyard to the west of it all’ is oddly called Hollywood Cemetary. Very old.

‘Cause to the north there is a prison
Which I’ve come to call my home
But come Monday morning no country song
Will sing me home again

Pretty sure this is a reference to  “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver, written about West Virginia, which is where I live now.

Sunday morning, 8:00 a.m
Sirens fill the air
Sounds like someone made the river
Sounds like someone being born again

The State penitentiary is located just across the James and slightly to the east of Oregon Hill, and occasionally there is an escape.

The Cowboy Junkies spent some time in Richmond early in their career and have returned many times to play there, they are well-loved by Richmonders. Oh and they’re a Canadian band, if you didn’t know, eh?

DOJ opposes release of Trump warrant affidavit

The Department of Justice is opposing the release of the underlying affidavit justifying its unprecedented raid of Mar-a-Lago, just days after it agreed to unseal the warrant approving the FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida resort.

“There remain compelling reasons, including to protect the integrity of an ongoing law enforcement investigation that implicates national security, that support keeping the affidavit sealed,” DOJ lawyers declared on Monday, also indicating, however, that they would be open to releasing redacted portions of other related documents.

Of course they do – there’s no probable cause. There’s no whistleblower.

Over 60,000 People Sign Petition To End Canada’s Telecom Oligopoly

Canadians are calling on the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to end the domination of Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX: RCI.B), BCE Inc (TSX: BCE) and Telus Corporation (TSX: T) over the country’s telecommunications industry.

The campaign, in the form of a Change.org petition started by Nicole Goodmurphy-McCallum, has gathered over 60,300 signatures so far.

This was triggered by a series of recent events that stress the glaring need for telecom competition in the country: first was the proposed merger between Rogers and Shaw Communications (TSX: SJR.B), exacerbated by the massive, 19-hour Canada-wide Rogers outage last month, and then most recently, Telus’ request to charge a 1.5% credit card processing fee on all customer bill payments.

‘Tremendous Anger’: Trump Warns Of ‘Perilous Times’ In First Interview Since FBI Raid

45th President Donald Trump warned that the country is experiencing “tremendous anger” and headed into “perilous times” after Joe Biden’s Department of Justice and FBI authorized a raid on Mar-a-Lago, the former president’s resort home.

In his first print interview since the raid, given to Fox News, Trump warned the Democrats in control of the government that their actions inspired serious anger.

Toronto council approves creation of over 600 refugee shelter spaces at North York hotel

Toronto city council approved on Monday the creation of more than 600 new emergency shelter spaces for refugees and refugee claimants.

In a news release, the City said council approved a recommendation by City staff to execute an agreement with the hotel located at 3 Park Home Ave. in North York.

The statement noted that refugee occupancy in the shelter system has been “steadily increasing” since September of last year, largely due to the border reopening and easing of travel restrictions.

The new IRS army: From the government, but not ‘here to help’

The Biden administration has a lot of nerve proposing to double the budget of the Internal Revenue Service and add 87,000 employees.

This plan is set to become law as part of the soon-to-be-enacted Inflation Reduction Act. And it comes around the same time as the outrageous FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago compound in Palm Beach, Florida. The Biden administration has converted the FBI and the Justice Department into functionaries of the Democratic Party’s character assassination campaign. Think they will do the same with a Yankee Stadium full of new IRS auditors? They will be on search-and-destroy missions.

Spike in FBI threats unsettles the right

An uptick in threats to the FBI after it executed a search warrant at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate is unsettling the political right, with some calling on allies of the former president to tone down their rhetoric.

Barriers have been erected outside the perimeter of the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., while the FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reportedly issued a joint bulletin Friday warning about spikes in threats that included a bomb threat at FBI headquarters and calls for “civil war” and “armed rebellion.”

All Is Proceeding As Any Idiot Could Have Foreseen

  1. Canada socializes healthcare.
  2. Canada legalizes euthanasia.
  3. The Canadian government-controlled health care establishment realizes, “Hey, wait a minute, it’s cheaper if these people die, let’s pressure them into it.”
  4. “Euthanasia” is now Canada’s sixth-leading cause of death.

At no point does it seem to have occurred to anyone that giving the government strong financial incentive to want you dead was a bad idea.

‘No Way Joe Biden Has Not Been Briefed’: Former FBI Agent Claims White House Telling ‘Blatant Lie’

A former FBI agent blasted claims that President Joe Biden was not briefed on the Aug. 8 raid on Mar-a-Lago during a Fox News appearance early Monday morning.

“The soundbite you played there just a second ago from the White House is a blatant lie,” Jonathan Gilliam, who served on criminal and counterterrorism squads for the FBI according to his website, said on “Fox and Friends First.” “It is a blatant lie, and no way Joe Biden has not been briefed on this. In fact, if Joe Biden had not been briefed on this, considering one of the biggest things occurring right now that can affect this country in the near future, he is not a president. He is somebody sitting in a chair. So which one is it? Is he completely incompetent and someone else is doing his job, or are they lying to the American people?”

Canada’s Inferno of Incivility

We stand at a precipice where we face the danger of losing our humanity forever.

Years from now, what I will remember most about the pandemic is not a virus but our response to it. We have become an intolerant, contemptful, rude and savage society, more inclined to cut off our relationships at the knees than to massage the joints a little to keep them moving. We threaten instead of persuade, mandate instead of respect, and gaslight, scapegoat, and insult our targets into submission.

Seared into my memory are the bold, black letters on the front page of The Toronto Star last August: “I have no empathy left for the wilfully unvaccinated. Let them die.” These words are, unfortunately, more aligned with today’s rules of behavior than an exception to them. Online and off, we are becoming a crude, insensitive, and morally bankrupt society being slowly engulfed, it seems, by an inferno of incivility.

Canada’s Digital ID Plans “Uncomfortably Close” To Chinese Social Credit

A constitutional rights group has blasted the federal government’s plan to create a Digital ID infrastructure as a threat to Charter rights and a step towards implementing a Communist China-style social credit system.

In the report titled Canada’s Road to Beijing, the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) outlines how China’s mass surveillance system operates and in what ways a national Digital ID system is a step towards authoritarianism.

National Council Of Canadian Muslims Has Trudeau Running In Circles

One year after the submission, NCCM inform our Liberal government of the degree to which the Feds lived up to their standards:

“Although much has been done, much more remains.”

If ever there was a calling card for Canada’s diversity industry, this is the one. They must remain insatiable. This way, political power will continue to accumulate ad infinitum. It has become the defining characteristic of post-modern society: those who whine most successfully, win.

Liberals Hated The Espionage Act. Then The FBI Used It Against Trump

Prominent Democrats and left-leaning journalists have developed a newfound appreciation for the Espionage Act — which they once criticized as being unconstitutional and abusive — now that it’s being used against former President Donald Trump.

The FBI raided Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago Aug. 8 as part of an investigation into a potential violation of the Espionage Act, which can be used to prosecute illegal spying but also leaking or mishandling classified documents. Liberals once widely opposed the law, which they viewed as an infringement on free speech and a way for the government to abuse its critics.

One Year Later: How The Biden Admin, Big Tech, And Pfizer Fooled Americans Into Taking “FDA Approved” Covid Vaccines That Never Actually Existed

It has been almost one year since the FDA gave full approval to Pfizer’s mRNA COVID injection. Yet many will be surprised to find out that this particular vaccine, in FDA approved form, has never actually existed, and will never exist. The Biden Administration’s highly touted FDA approval was a mere sleight of hand. It was bureaucratic trickery. There remains no FDA approved COVID vaccine that is actually available in the United States, and there may never be one.

Why Is The UN Promoting A Kind Of Food Production Proven To Reduce Yields, Raise Prices, And Topple Governments?

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) describes itself as “the global authority that sets the environmental agenda… and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.” Through its “Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Agriculture and Food” program launched in 2014, the UNEP advocates that nations “steer away from the prevailing focus on per hectare productivity.”
