Scout – He’s a very good boy

Dog repeatedly escapes Up North shelter, sneaks into nursing home

BELLAIRE — He’d had enough of being at the animal shelter, so Scout the dog climbed over one tall fence and then another, crossed a busy highway in the darkness, entered the automatic doors of a nursing home down the road, walked unnoticed into the lobby, hopped onto a couch, curled into a ball and quietly went to sleep for the night.

An astonished nurse there found him the next morning. She called Antrim County Animal Control, whose shelter happens to be just down the road. And they discovered that he’d escaped from there the night before.

4 children found alive after surviving plane crash and fending for themselves for 40 days in Colombian jungle

This is the emotional moment four Colombian children who were missing for six weeks alone in the Amazon after a plane crash were airlifted out of the jungle.

The siblings, Lesly, 13, Soleiny, nine, Tien Noriel, four, and baby Cristin who had his first birthday while lost in the rainforest, had been travelling in a light aircraft on May 1 when it crashed. The accident killed everyone else on board, the children’s mother Magdalena Mucutui Valencia, the pilot and an indigenous leader.

But when the wreckage of the plane was found after weeks of hunting not only were the children not found dead alongside the adults, there was part-eaten fruit that suggested they had all survived.

Soon to be a Disney movie, but the children will be Junior Drag Queens on their way to a pageant who manage to convert the tribe of cannibals who capture them and stage a Jungle Drag Show!

Toof Fixed!

Caught a break. I chipped a front tooth on the weekend, well actually it was more like the tooth decided it had enough of this world and was slowly offing itself.

A filling fell out late last year, a chunk at the back fell out last month and on Saturday a big chunk at the side decided to separate. The cosmetics were awful.

The tooth is very thin and that was the cause of my concern. Much had been excavated at the back. Felt real weird.

I spent the weekend researching possible fixes and given that my default setting is ‘catastrophic thinking’ I was easily able to convince myself that a tooth implant was the only possible solution or maybe if God smiled upon me I could get away with a veneer.

After a few phone calls it was off to the Emergency Dentist.

Thankfully the Doc said neither a veneer nor an implant would be required.

The bonding process used, assuming a reasonable standard of hygiene, should last many years.

Yay! And Yay also to having Toronto’s only 24 hour Emergency Dentist a couple of blocks away.

Admitting Defeat: The Crown Is Dropping Charges Against Freedom Convoy Supporters

According to The Democracy Fund (TDF), a supporter of the Freedom Convoy 2022, who they had their legal team representing in court, has had the charges against them stayed by the Crown prosecution.

The unnamed client was facing up to 45 days in prison and had been charged with mischief, disobeying a court order, and obstructing a police officer, which is arguable an equal set of charges to what convoy spokeswoman Tamara Lich has put against her.

From the vague details that TDF has given about this case, it sounds like the organization’s lawyer, Mr. Adam Blake-Gallipeau, representing this particular client had taken a strategy of aggressively pushing the Crown to provide details to back up its charges, which evidentially it could not.

It sounds like TDF is taking the position that the onus is not on them to scramble around citing the Charter to defend their client’s attendance at the Freedom Convoy protest when the Crown cannot provided evidence a crime was even committed.

Upset over LGBTQ books, a Michigan town defunds its library in tax vote

What started as a fight over an LGBTQ-themed graphic novel may end with the closure of a west Michigan public library.

Voters in Jamestown Township, a politically conservative community in Ottawa County, rejected renewal Tuesday of a millage that would support the Patmos Library. That vote guts the library’s operating budget in 2023 — 84 percent of the library’s $245,000 budget comes from property taxes collected through a millage.

Without a millage, the library is likely to run out of money sometime late next year, said Larry Walton, library board president.
