Conservatives lead in popular support, but Liberals would still eke out a diminished minority win today: poll analysis

OTTAWA — The Conservative party has taken the lead in nationwide federal election campaign polling, and is closing the gap with the Liberals in Ontario, according to an analysis by Vox Pop Labs.

And while the analysis also suggests the Liberals would still win the most seats if the election were held now, it forecasts that they would fall short of the number needed to form a majority government.

Top-line numbers aggregated in The Signal by Vox Pop Labs suggest Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives now have the support of 34.5 per cent of voters, compared to 33.5 per cent for Justin Trudeau’s Liberals.

The New Democrats are sitting at 19.8 per cent support, a level that has remained virtually unchanged over the first 10 days of campaigning.

A weakened minority? As good as a loss certainly. Would that be enough for the LPC to dump Prince Airhead? I doubt it.

SULTANI: Shame on Monsef for calling Taliban ‘our brothers’

In a morning briefing on Afghanistan, Maryam Monsef, Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equality called the Taliban her “brothers” and asked them to allow Canadians to get to the Kabul airport in order to leave the country. After facing heavy criticism, Monsef is defending herself on the grounds that she used “brothers” in a cultural context.

As a Canadian who moved to this country as an Afghan refugee, I want to be very clear, there is no cultural context in which calling the Taliban “brothers” is acceptable. Words carry meaning, and meanings imply moral positions.

Huh? Haven’t we been lectured that the bloodthirsty Taliban and their ilk are in no way Muslim? Well Maryam Monsef corrects that erroneous assumption!

Muslim minister for women, gender equality faces backlash after calling Taliban ‘our brothers’

Taliban Fan

When asked to clarify her comments, Liberal MP Monsef explained that it is common for Muslim men and women to refer to each other as ‘brothers and sisters’

Oh so the Taliban are indeed as Muslim as Mohammed! Thanks for clearing that up Maryam!

Justin Trudeau has forsaken sunny ways for petulance and gloom

Whatever happened to Justin Trudeau’s sunny ways? Ten days into a campaign whose timing was of his own choosing, the Liberal leader’s main rivals all look like they are having a better time on the hustings than he is. Polls suggest that indeed they are.

Looking at Trudeau’s body language over the past few days, one could be misled into thinking that it was his government that was dragged into an early election rather than the opposite. The perils to the Liberal agenda that he is increasingly raising are of his own making.

What is certain is that Trudeau’s campaign to date bears little resemblance to the convivial exercise that earned him an unlikely majority government in 2015.

The media overall seems less Justin friendly this go round. Has it dawned on them that their credibility was in the dumpster due to their Trudeaumania? Regardless, something has changed lets see if it holds.

Trudeau government awards ship building contract to Communist China at expense of Canadian firms

Chinese state-owned shipbuilder tapped to supply ferry for Crown corporation as Canadians remain jailed

A huge state-owned shipyard in China is building a 1,000-passenger ferry for use by a federal Crown corporation over the objections of Canada’s shipbuilding industry and at a time when two Canadians have spent 989 days in Chinese prisons as victims of what Ottawa has called “hostage diplomacy.”

… Colin Cooke, president of the Canadian Marine Industries and Shipbuilding Association, said he finds it “very difficult to stomach” that the federal contract was approved when Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig are incarcerated in China. They have spent 989 days in Chinese prisons with the lights on 24 hours a day.

Mr. Cooke also questioned whether Marine Atlantic’s competitive procurement process was fair, because Stena North Sea can take advantage of China’s heavily subsidized shipping industry to reduce expenses. He said a cost-effective solution could have been found to build the ferry in Canada.

“The vessels could be built stem to stern by Canadian facilities, by Canadian workers for Canadian use,” Mr. Cooke said. “We have the design know-how. We’ve got the components manufacturing and we have the yards.”

Will Trudeau Be The First PM Forced To Go Into Hiding Upon Re-Election?

The anger is visceral. The evidence damning. To say that things have not gone Justin Trudeau’s way thus far in the 2021 election campaign is the understatement of the year.

Campaigning in small town Ontario last week, Trudeau was served up a hot-plate of voter antagonism. Mandatory vaccine issues were the order of the day, as our ruling PM was forced into running hundred yard dashes to the safety of the campaign bus. Trudeau fared no better on a recent visit to rural British Columbia.

John Ivison: Lessons from a heckler on Trudeau’s six years of failed promises of affordable housing

HAMILTON, ONT. – It’s only 8 a.m. but the sun is already beating down on a half-built subdivision on the outskirts of the city. A smattering of journalists, Liberal staff and party supporters are sweating spinal fluid waiting for the arrival of the party leader and his entourage for an announcement on housing policy that has already been leaked to the Toronto Star.

Greens pick candidate turfed by NDP in last federal campaign over Nazi Israel tweets

The federal Greens have nominated a candidate in Nova Scotia who was turfed by the NDP in the last national campaign after a tweet surfaced in which she had compared Israel to Nazi Germany.

Rana Zaman tweeted today she is the official candidate for the Green party in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, the riding where she was dropped by the NDP after her remarks emerged in the lead-up to the 2019 campaign.

Tom Mulcair: O’Toole has knocked Trudeau off his stride and it’s starting to show

SAINT-SAUVEUR, QUEBEC — When word leaked over the weekend that Justin Trudeau was asking his candidates to share any “wow” ideas they might have for the campaign, seasoned organizers from all parties were gobsmacked.

When you’re in power and you get to choose the date of the election, you’re not supposed to be last out of the starting blocks.

Not a bad article.

Liberals, Conservatives in dead heat as Trudeau’s popularity dips: election poll

The Liberals have squandered the five-point lead they held over the Conservatives heading into the federal election campaign last week, a new poll suggests, with the two frontrunning parties statistically tied.

The Ipsos poll conducted exclusively for Global News also found Justin Trudeau’s popularity is on the downswing, with the prime minister’s approval rating dipping below 50 per cent for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nanos poll is showing the same.

But as always the GTA and Quebec may carry the day for the scumbag.

Ben Woodfinden: Freeland’s ‘manipulated’ video on Twitter shows Liberals’ desperation

There’s something strange going on with the Liberals. They are often referred to as the “natural governing party” of Canada given their near unparalleled dominance at the national level for much of Canada’s history. Their governing success wouldn’t be possible were the Liberals not also really good at winning elections. The Liberals don’t always run brilliant campaigns (see the 2011 election) but it’s what we generally expect of them. Given this “snap” election was an open secret for months, you would assume the Liberals have had ample time to prepare for it and would be ready to hit the ground running.
