‘That’s a question for Apple’: White House dodges questions on why it has promised to ‘monitor’ Musk’s Twitter – while avoiding Tim Cook’s firm siding with Chinese government and making it harder for ‘zero COVID’ protesters to communicate

The White House was accused of double standards on Wednesday, as a senior spokesman deflected questions about Apple bowing to Chinese authorities, saying the tech giant was a private company, while the Biden administration says it is monitoring Twitter for misinformation.

During an appearance on Fox News, John Kirby, the National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, said it was a case of comparing ‘apples and oranges.’

Conservatives have expressed fury with the White House, after it said it would be keeping ‘an eye on’ misinformation spread on Twitter, after Elon Musk bought the platform.

Apple announces first states signed up to adopt driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet

Apple today announced that it is working with several states across the country, which will roll out the ability for their residents to seamlessly and securely add their driver’s license or state ID to Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch. Arizona and Georgia will be the first states to introduce this new innovation to their residents, with Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah to follow. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will enable select airport security checkpoints and lanes in participating airports as the first locations customers can use their driver’s license or state ID in Wallet. Built with privacy at the forefront, Wallet provides a more secure and convenient way for customers to present their driver’s licenses and state IDs on iPhone or Apple Watch.

Apple Promotes Hookup Apps to Children, Report Finds

The Tech Transparency Project found that Apple actively promotes pornographic content and apps like Tinder to users it believes are underage. The report, released Wednesday, focused on popular apps in the “Lifestyle” category, with names like “Adult Hook Up & Friend Finder” and “Hahanono—Chat & Get Naughty.” In at least one case, Apple hosted an app for “one-night stands” that allowed users to set their age as 14.
