Jack M. Mintz: Get ready for naughty little taxes

Our deficit-plagued federal and provincial governments are readying themselves with a host of potential tax hikes for an unsuspecting electorate. Most experts focus on the big taxes — income, payroll, property and sales — that may need higher rates to feed politicians’ insatiable appetite for public spending. Canada’s vaccine passport won’t come until December, at the earliest

Leaked presentations reveal that Canada won’t have a national Covid-19 vaccine passport system until December 2021, at the earliest. A total lack of national infrastructure, however, means that could be delayed even further.

The internal PowerPoint presentation, prepared by the Treasury Board of Canada, reveals that even more than a year after the global pandemic hit, Canada still lags other countries in developing a system to issue and recognize proof of immunity to Covid-19.

The warning is contained in a special report on foreign interference threats, which charts some of the tactics the Canadian Security Intelligence Service has observed over the years.

Its publication comes as Ottawa prepares for an election call widely expected in the next few weeks. That election, when it comes, is likely to see attempts at foreign interference online, the Communications Security Establishment has warned.

More Canadians think Singh would be better PM than O’Toole: Leger survey

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh might have reason to smile only weeks before a possible election call as a new survey suggests more Canadians believe he would make a better prime minister than the Conservatives’ Erin O’Toole.

While the survey by Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies had 25 per cent of respondents picking Justin Trudeau as the best prime minister, Singh wasn’t far behind with 19 per cent while only 13 per cent chose O’Toole.

In O’Toole’s defense this was an on-line survey.
