Many Canadians struggle to afford pricey high-speed home internet in urban areas

Ray Noyes has spent most of his life without a home internet connection.

He lives in Vanier, a densely populated neighbourhood close to Ottawa’s downtown core. Before the pandemic, he would bring his old laptop to the local library or go to his mother’s house and use her computer to check his email.

At the time, Noyes was eligible for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), which provided him with $1,169 a month for basic needs and shelter. He said on this budget purchasing home internet was out of the question.

I don’t begrudge anyone making a profit but when it comes to cell phones and the internet Canadians are gouged thanks to our crony capitalist system.

Near 90 Percent of Canadians Surveyed Support Creating a Foreign Agent Registry Amid Increased Interference from Beijing, Russia

A survey says nearly 90 percent of Canadians support creating a registry of foreign agents, a result that came after Ottawa announced plans to consult the public on establishing such a registry amid growing concerns of foreign interference from China, Russia, and other authoritarian states.

The survey, conducted by Nanos Research on behalf of The Globe and Mail, found that 88 percent of Canadians support or somewhat support a foreign-influence registry, which would require an individual or an entity working for a foreign authority to register with the government. With the registry, the feds aim to make such operations more transparent, where failure to comply would likely result in fines or even prison time.

Will Canada’s homeless encampments be able to absorb the coming wave?

The Canadian population just blew past 39 million, and the country is only going to get bigger: Ottawa announced in November it wants to bring in a half-million more immigrants each year. The population grows apace, our infrastructure — governmental and private — is struggling to keep up. And it’s a story playing out across Canada.

Trudeau’s lunatic green-scam: Moves to mandate electric vehicle sales starting in 2025

One-fifth of all passenger cars, SUVs and trucks sold in Canada in 2026 will need to run on electricity under new regulations Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault is proposing Wednesday.

By 2030, the mandate will hit 60 per cent of all sales and by 2035, every passenger vehicle sold in Canada will need to be electric.

Manufacturers or importers who don’t meet the sales targets could face penalties under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

Canada still has a long way to go before approaching the first target in 2025.

You are being lied to, EV’s are not a solution. They are impractical and less eco-friendly than an oil slick.

You’re being suckered. EV’s are the carrot but all you’ll ever get is the stick.

Trudeau government preparing to rain your cash on corporate cronies by subsidizing EV battery production in Canada

Ottawa preparing to go toe-to-toe with U.S. to subsidize EV battery production in Canada

The federal government is preparing to transform its industrial policy in a bid to shelter Canadian production of electric vehicle batteries from the threat posed by the United States’ offer of billions of dollars in new subsidies, sources say.

For the first time, Ottawa is set to subsidize the production costs of large electric vehicle battery producers. It hopes to convince them to set up their plants in Canada, or to maintain their presence here.

The new measures would be a game-changer for Canada’s industrial policy. For decades, government programs have been based on funding “non-recurring” capital expenditures, such as the construction or modernization of factories.

‘Alarming escalation’ of espionage, foreign interference in Canada since pandemic: CSIS

OTTAWA — Canada’s spy agency has noted an “alarming escalation” of espionage and foreign interference since the beginning of the pandemic, with countries like China threatening or intimidating people in Canada into namely supporting a specific electoral candidate.

“These activities are real, they’re persistent, they’re increasing, and it’s not hypothetical, we see it everyday in our work. And these activities will be targeting all level of governments, whether it’s federal, municipal, provincial,” veteran CSIS intelligence analyst Noura Hayek told attendees of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws conference Monday.

Can’t they identify the perps?

Can’t they deport them?

Why do CSIS’ hands seem to be tied?

Or is Canada’s China class preventing that action be taken?

Michael Taube: Election interference but the latest example of how Trudeau has allowed China to walk all over us

In 2017, the Communications Security Establishment revealed the existence of “low-sophistication cyber threat activity” on Twitter targeting the 2015 election.

More recently, a Global News report revealed that China was behind a “vast campaign of foreign interference” in the 2019 election. This interference reportedly included financial payments to at least 11 federal candidates and “numerous Beijing operatives” who worked in campaign offices at the behest of their Communist overlords.

Canada opens up work permits to families of foreign workers in effort to fill labour shortage

OTTAWA — The federal government is making it easier for temporary foreign workers to bring their families with them to Canada.

At an event in Edmonton on Friday, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced that starting in January, people applying for temporary work permits would also be able to bring their families with them, something previously not permitted in most cases.

The so-called “labour shortage” is a lie. The government is fighting the inflation it created on the the backs of the poor by colluding with Canada’s corporate welfare parasites to keep wages down – the Bank of Canada is on record admitting this. Mass immigration ensures they have have enough compliant wage slaves fighting for crumbs.

Matt Taibbi, Douglas Murray Dominate Trust-in-Media Debate – Trucker Convoy featured prominently

Toronto — Conservative commentator Douglas Murray and veteran reporter Matt Taibbi soundly defeated their opponents in a Wednesday evening debate on the question of whether to trust the mainstream media, convincing a significant segment of the audience to abandon their faith in an institution they say is hopelessly compromised by bias.

… The Canadian trucker protests featured prominently in the debate. During Murray’s opening remarks, the British commentator and fellow National Review contributor, laid into Prime Minister Trudeau and Canadian media outlets for failing to challenge the government-approved narrative that the protests were organized by bigots of various stripes.

“The Canadian mainstream media acted as an amen chorus of the Canadian government,” Murray argued. “Now why is this is rancid? So utterly, utterly, rancid and corrupt? Because in this country your media–your mainstream media–is funded by the government.”

Canada wants to welcome 500,000 more immigrants in 2025. Can our country keep up?

… Consider that over the past year, fewer than 200,000 housing units were completed. There were 3.6 new residents for every home added, the highest ratio since at least 1991. Affordability is deteriorating in most places. There is a fundamental mismatch between home supply and demand – and the population boom is contributing to the divide.

At the same time, Canadian governments are struggling to deliver basic services. Surgeries are getting cancelled in crammed hospitals. Canadians can’t find family doctors, let alone newcomers trying to navigate an ailing health care system. Cash-strapped cities can’t refurbish their infrastructure as fast as it’s falling into disrepair.

Do we need mass immigration? No. The Corporate class wants slaves.

Trudeau government unveils long-awaited plan to confront an ‘increasingly disruptive’ China

Canada’s long-awaited Indo-Pacific Strategy describes China as “an increasingly disruptive global power” on the world stage — a social and economic force that’s too big to ignore but is also increasingly focused on bending international rules to suit its own interests.

Using some surprisingly blunt language, the strategy says the Canadian government needs to be “clear-eyed” about China’s objectives in the Far East and elsewhere. It promises to spend almost half a billion dollars over five years on improving military and intelligence cooperation with allies in the region.

“China’s rise, enabled by the same international rules and norms that it now increasingly disregards, has had an enormous impact on the Indo-Pacific, and it has ambitions to become the leading power in the region,” says the 26-page document, which was provided to the media in advance of its formal release in Vancouver on Sunday.

This is all just smoke and mirrors, it’ll be business as usual for Canada’s China class.

From the Globe: This is a bit like a rapist wrapping themselves in the cloak of women’s rights.

Goldy Hyder, president of the Business Council of Canada, said the government’s new policy is based on a “realistic assessment of risks and regional tensions, with a candid recognition Canada must continue to work with China on global priorities such as emissions reductions.”

Workers at Canadian Tire factories overseas paid poverty wages, labour groups allege

Canadian labour groups have filed a complaint with a federal corporate watchdog saying Canadian Tire failed to ensure workers in its South Asian supplier factories are paid a living wage.

The Canadian Labour Congress and the United Steelworkers Union filed the complaint with the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise on Monday.

They allege that workers in Bangladeshi garment factories that supply Canadian Tire subsidiary Mark’s with clothing sold under brand names like Wind River, Denver Hayes, Dakota and Helly Hansen are paid poverty-level wages.

Canada: Why the country wants to bring in 1.5m immigrants by 2025

Canada is betting big on immigration to fill the gap in its economy left by aging Baby Boomers leaving the workforce – but not everyone is on board with bringing in so many people from abroad.

Earlier this month, the federal government announced an aggressive plan to take in 500,000 immigrants a year by 2025, with almost 1.5 million new immigrants coming to the country over the next three years.

This plan would see Canada welcome about eight-times the number of permanent residents each year – per population – than the UK, and four-times more than its southern neighbour, the United States.

But a recent poll shows that there is also anxiety about welcoming in so many newcomers.

“The Country” does not wish to bring in 1.5 Million immigrants.

Canada’s Corporate and Political classes are scheming to bring this nation to its knees for profit.
