Have A Jolly Corporate Crony Christmas! Canadian Job Vacancies Are Falling Sharply As Excess Labor Rises

Canada’s once tight labor market, a key driver of wages and shelter costs, is loosening. Statistics Canada (Stat Can) data reveals job vacancies declined further in Q3 2023. The drop is a double-edged sword: roles being filled is good news, but job creation is failing to keep up with population growth. Canada is adding roughly 2 workers for every job filled, which will quickly transition a tight labor market to one with excess labor in a short period. Expect unemployment to rise and wage growth to fall if this trend persists.

Feds Say Immigrants Needed to Build Homes, but Only 1.6 Percent Have the Skills

Only 1.6 percent of newcomers to Canada in 2022 were accepted based on having skills to work in construction, federal data indicates, as the Liberal government defends its immigration levels citing the need for new trade workers to build homes.

Immigration Canada provided the data on Dec. 6 in response to an order paper from Conservative MP Pat Kelly.

GOLDSTEIN: Trudeau sucks and blows on the war in Gaza

Bait-and-switch diplomacy – promising a superior product and then delivering an inferior one – is a lousy way to run Canada’s foreign policy.

It’s also what best describes Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s strategy last week in supporting a United Nations General Assembly ceasefire resolution on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Ottawa expected to release promised EV sales regulations Tuesday

Automakers are set to get a jolt Tuesday when Ottawa unveils its promised electric vehicle regulations.

CBC News has learned that Ottawa will release final regulations it says will ensure that all new passenger cars sold in Canada by 2035 are zero-emission vehicles, a senior government source said.

The source — who was not authorized to speak publicly — said the new regulations are meant to ensure that automakers produce enough affordable zero-emissions vehicles to meet the demand.

Tories Accuse Feds of Failing to Secure Jobs for Canadians in Govt.-Funded EV Battery Plant Deals

A Conservative MP is accusing the federal government of failing to include job guarantees for Canadians in its subsidy contracts with foreign electric vehicle battery manufacturers.

Tory MP Rick Perkins told the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates (OGGO) on Dec. 14 that he has read a confidential Volkswagen contract and “what’s not in it is a clause that protects Canadian jobs.”

Former Chair of Embattled Green Fund Says She Did No ‘Wrong’ as Testimony Cut Short

The former chair of a federal green fund told MPs she didn’t do anything wrong, a day after a whistleblower alleged publicly the organization is corrupt.

“I believe the success of the projects SDTC has funded demonstrate that the board under my leadership has done a lot that is right,” Annette Verschuren told the House of Commons industry committee on Dec. 12.

She said she resigned from the board on Dec. 1 “not because I have done anything wrong” but because she believes “the organization’s work is too important to be compromised by the distraction that these allegations have caused.”

OTTAWA – The Palestinian ambassador in Ottawa is praising Canada’s vote at the United Nations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, while urging the Canadian government to do more to stop Israel’s military campaign.

Insiders say Trudeau has Liberals’ blessing to stay on as leader, despite falling polls

If there is a walk in the snow coming for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this winter, it won’t have anything to do with reflecting on his future.

It also won’t come as the result of being pushed out.

Despite strong winds of change swirling around the prime minister and his minority government, multiple insiders and strategists say that since Trudeau saved the party eight years ago, the Liberals are his to lead for as long as he wants to.

Sounds like Katie Telford is whistling past the grave yard.

Canada must stem the surge in temporary foreign workers and international students

Recent years have seen an unprecedented increase in Canada’s non-permanent resident population, far surpassing increases in annual admissions of new permanent residents. The unbalanced growth in Canada’s temporary and permanent migration inflows will inevitably result in a growing undocumented population and forced deportations. Both developments risk inflaming Canada’s immigration politics and undermining public confidence in the immigration system.

It is imperative that the government take immediate steps to stem the continuing growth in foreign student and temporary foreign worker entries.

Immigration Minister planning ‘broad’ program to create citizenship path for illegal alien invaders

Ottawa is preparing to create a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of people who have lived and worked in Canada illegally for years, starting with construction workers, Immigration Minister Marc Miller says.

In an interview, Mr. Miller said he is preparing to create a “broad and comprehensive program” that would allow many without valid documents to apply for permanent residency. Among those included would be people who entered the country legally, as temporary workers or international students, and then remained here after their visas expired.

GOLDSTEIN: Jews don’t count at UN and this time Canada agreed

Only at the United Nations — and only about Israel — would the UN General Assembly call for a “ceasefire” in a war while disgracefully avoiding any mention of who and what started it.

Twice now — on Tuesday in passing a resolution calling for a “humanitarian ceasefire” in the Israel/Hamas war in Gaza — and back on Oct. 26 when it called for a “humanitarian truce” — the General Assembly deliberately avoided assigning any responsibility for the conflict to Hamas.
