Minerals needed for green energy could run out within decades

Cobalt mining

The transition away from fossil fuels could be held back by shortages of critical minerals needed to build solar panels, nuclear power stations, electric cars and wind turbines, researchers have found.

Researchers at the Beijing Institute of Technology found that if the world attempted to build enough clean technology to limit climate change to 2C above pre-industrial temperatures, it would exhaust known reserves of several minerals within decades.

Alberta releases new rules and no-go zones on wind and solar projects

The Alberta government has confirmed new rules for wind and solar energy projects it says are needed to protect the environment, food security and the province’s scenery.

The new regulations stem from Premier Danielle Smith’s February announcement that Alberta was going to take an “agriculture first” approach towards renewable energy development moving forward following the government-imposed seven-month moratorium on project approvals in 2023.

CHARLEBOIS: Is Canada sacrificing consumer trust for ‘cow farts’ and climate optics?

Canada’s recent approval of Bovaer, a methane-reducing feed additive for cattle and dairy cows, has been hailed as a major climate change milestone.

At its core, this innovation aims to cut down methane emissions — essentially reducing “cow farts.” While the environmental benefits may be commendable, the decision raises serious concerns about transparency, food quality, and whether Canada has learned from past controversies in the agri-food sector.

Former Chair of Embattled Green Fund Says She Did No ‘Wrong’ as Testimony Cut Short

The former chair of a federal green fund told MPs she didn’t do anything wrong, a day after a whistleblower alleged publicly the organization is corrupt.

“I believe the success of the projects SDTC has funded demonstrate that the board under my leadership has done a lot that is right,” Annette Verschuren told the House of Commons industry committee on Dec. 12.

She said she resigned from the board on Dec. 1 “not because I have done anything wrong” but because she believes “the organization’s work is too important to be compromised by the distraction that these allegations have caused.”

Net zero and the politics of narcissism

She can eat her hat later.

Climate hysteria is symptomatic of our absurdist age

I’m not a climate sceptic. I’m a disciple in that regard of a great friend who died recently, James Lovelock. He used to say that climate science is inexact, but if it has a bias, it’s probably towards underestimating the speed of climate change. He thought that climate change would consist of sudden jumps and it could transform things quite quickly, in a couple of decades. We might be in the middle of it. That’s my view — I’m not a climate sceptic.

Over 1000 Scientists and Professionals Sign Formal Declaration: “There is No Climate Emergency”

“There is no cause for panic and alarm. We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050.

“… The political fiction that humans cause most or all climate change and the claim that the science behind this notion is ‘settled’, has been dealt a savage blow by the publication of a ‘World Climate Declaration (WCD)’ signed by over 1,100 scientists and professionals. There is no climate emergency, say the authors, who are drawn from across the world and led by the Norwegian physics Nobel Prize laureate Professor Ivar Giaever. Climate science is said to have degenerated into a discussion based on beliefs, not on sound self-critical science.”

The Energy Freedom Platform

The root of our global energy crisis is Green Energy Fascism—the idea that government should have total control over the energy industry (fascism) used for the “green” goal of rapidly eliminating fossil fuels and nuclear.

The solution is Energy Freedom—the idea that individuals should be free to produce and consume energy how they judge best, provided they follow laws protecting everyone from truly harmful emissions and dangerous practices.

How Clean Energy Actually Destroys The Environment And Fuels Abuse

The global drive to replace fossil fuels with climate-friendly energy alternatives has powered demand for rare earth minerals used in electric vehicle batteries and wind turbines, with major U.S. companies importing rare earths from Asia. In Myanmar, the process of mining these rare earths has produced environmental damage and human rights abuses, an Associated Press investigation found.

US Capital Becomes Latest City To Ban Fossil Fuel Heating, Push Zero-Emissions Vehicles

The renewable energy bill mandates that by 2027, all new commercial buildings in D.C. generate “net-zero energy” as part of energy conservation and emission reduction efforts, according to the bill’s text. Fossil fuels used to power gas cooking stoves, space heating and water heating will be banned by the city in new business buildings and apartments four stories or taller.

Do Canadians Get It Yet? The Liberals Want You To Be Poor

The Trudeau Liberals spent years trying to wreck the Canadian energy sector.

As a consequence, the cost-of-living, including the cost of energy, has risen dramatically, something that wouldn’t have happened (at least not to the same extent) if Canada had been effectively making use of our abundant natural resources.

But that’s not enough.

The Liberals are now setting their sights on Canadian farmers, seeking to impose the same disastrous policies that have caused such a massive backlash in the Netherlands.

Sri Lanka Is a Wake-Up Call for Eco-Utopians

Earlier this week, a group of Sri Lankan protestors took a refreshing dip in President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s pool. It was probably a welcome respite from the steamy eighty-degree day in Colombo, as well from the unprecedented economic crisis currently devastating the country. Over the last year, Sri Lanka has experienced an annual inflation rate of more than 50 percent, with food prices rising 80 percent and transport costs a staggering 128 percent. Faced with fierce protests, the Sri Lankan government declared a state of emergency and deployed troops around the country to maintain order.

Biden Poised To Declare Climate Emergency To Ram Through Green Agenda

Leading Biden administration officials are debating ways to advance the president’s agenda, and the president is prepared to announce a number of new initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reported the Post, citing three people familiar with the matter. The internal discussions come after Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia told party leaders last week that he opposes the plans to advance this month’s significant economic package that includes billions of dollars toward slashing carbon emissions and promoting green energy.

When Intentions Are All: The Disastrous Consequences of the Green Movement’s Actions

It has been said that in the “progressive” mind, intentions matter far more than practical realities. Passion and commitment drive everything, and utopia shimmers on a distant horizon. Who can be against “saving the plant”? The journey may seem pleasant enough for a while, especially in advanced and basically well-run countries whose systems were built with “design margin,” robust enough to absorb some bad contingencies. But that can only carry a country – or a global economy – so far. Gwyn Morgan lays out the awful humanitarian results when unworkable government policies driven by decades of green ideology are compounded by war and geopolitics.
