GOLDSTEIN: We pay more in taxes than on food, clothing, housing combined, says report

Despite a dramatic drop in government revenues last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the average Canadian family still paid more in total taxes than for the basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter, according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.

Kelly McParland: Expected snap election shows Justin Trudeau stuffed up with his own importance

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning to call an election on Sunday, sources told Reuters. The first thing you should ask is: Is this about you, or is it about him? And the answer is simple: It’s all about him.

Other than the prime minister’s desire to win a majority and retain his job for another four years, what reason is there to spend another $500 million, the cost of the election held just two years ago, on a campaign that will divert the government for weeks from the fight against COVID-19, by far the most pressing task facing the country today?

Erin O’Toole seeks intervenor status in Winnipeg virus lab case

Opposition Leader Erin O’Toole is seeking intervenor status in a court battle over unfettered access to government documents that, if they were released unredacted, would offer insight into the firing of two scientists from Canada’s top infectious-disease laboratory.

A lawyer for the Conservative Party Leader wrote Federal Court of Canada Justice Catherine Kane on Thursday, seeking leave to intervene and asking to discuss the request. Intervenor status would give Mr. O’Toole the ability to make arguments in the case.

I bet Justin invited the commies.

Liberals hide names of media companies given $61 million in subsidies

“These measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to both a robust, diverse and sustainable news ecosystem and ensuring Canadians can receive the timely information they require from their government,” wrote Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault.

Pure coincidence an election is coming up.

‘Foreigners are not above the law’: China rejects Canada’s opposition to Spavor and Schellenberg rulings

The Chinese foreign ministry has hit back at the Canadian prime minister as the countries bicker over the sentencing of two Canadian citizens in China. Beijing has reminded Ottawa that foreigners are not above the law.

Speaking on Thursday, foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told gathered press that Canada’s opposition to Beijing’s sentencing of Canadians Robert Lloyd Schellenberg and Michael Spavor infringed China’s sovereignty.

Hua urged Canada not to engage in microphone diplomacy, a strategy that has been proven to fail, and to refrain from publishing their opinions. She claimed that while Canada advertises itself as a country that respects the law, its only objective in this case was to politicize issues.

We’re going to have to realize we are at war eventually. Fuck the China class.

Trudeau planning to call snap election for Sept. 20, sources say

OTTAWA — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning to call a snap election for Sept. 20 and intends to make the formal announcement this Sunday, four sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

John Ivison: Trudeau’s desire for a majority is on a collision course with voter antipathy

It’s clear that Justin Trudeau believes the time is right to try to regain his parliamentary majority. But it’s not apparent how he plans to convince voters they should share his enthusiasm.

Nearly two-thirds of Canadians don’t want a federal election right now, Mainstreet poll says

The federal Liberals appear set to declare a snap pandemic election, but a new poll says most Canadians aren’t on the same page.

The poll, commissioned by Torstar and conducted by Mainstreet Research over two days this week, found 65 per cent of respondents think this is not a good time to have an election.

To reduce the deficit, Canadians want increased taxes on the wealthy and large corporations

In mid-July, the Broadbent Institute and the Professional Institute for the Public Service of Canada commissioned Abacus Data to conduct a national public opinion survey to explore attitudes and opinions about the federal deficit and the post-pandemic recovery.

Taxing the rich will allow the Liberals to send more money overseas.

Canadian Universities Promote Anti-Anglophone Critical Race Theory

Originating in the mid-1970s, Critical Race Theory is liberal academic ideology which espouses that white supremacy “exists and maintains power through law.”

Within CRT theory, the term “whiteness”is defined as “specific dimensions of racism that serves to elevate white people over people of colour.”

It should be of no surprise that this form of prejudice against Anglo-European citizens is quietly working its way into Canadian universities. Nor should it appear shocking that our Liberal government has integrated critical race theory ideology into their training materials.

WE Charity awarded multiple government contracts without competition: new report

Ombudsman Alexander Jeglic found a number of contracts exhibiting a troubling pattern of favouritism towards WE. These contracts were dated prior to the government’s controversial decision to award the charity a $43.5 million pandemic grant to oversee the $912 million federal Summer Student Service Grant, which was ultimately axed following public outcry.

GUNTER: Latest WE Charity report is bad news for Liberals

“… In some instances, the department giving out the contract would contact WE in advance of the project being made public and outline just what the department was looking for. This could have given the Kielburgers a competitive advantage over other organizations that might also be interested in bidding.

On at least one occasion, Jeglic found, department officials suggested to WE an amount it might bid that could beat out any rivals.

And on another occasion, the ombudsman appears to have found that the cost of a contract awarded to WE was established after the charity had been given the deal.”

3 Liberal MPs say they will not run in the next federal election

Liberal MPs Karen McCrimmon, Adam Vaughan and Will Amos said Sunday they will not run again in the next federal election.

McCrimmon has served as parliamentary secretary to several ministers since her election in Kanata—Carleton in 2015, and is the chair of the parliamentary committee on national defence.

First elected in a 2014 byelection in the now defunct riding of Trinity—Spadina, Vaughan currently represents Spadina—Fort York and serves as parliamentary secretary to the minister of families, children and social development.

I’m sure Justin has plenty of stiffs left in the closet.
