China Would Lose a ‘Trade War’ With the US—’Gradually, then Suddenly’

China’s trade war bluff may backfire as the U.S. pushes allies to choose between a rogue economic actor and a flawed but fairer partner with unmatched global power.

No one wants a “trade war” with China, or for that matter with any nation. Nonetheless, China has been waging one for years and is now locked in a tariff recalibration with the Trump administration.

In this American effort to find trade parity and equity, China can do some short-term damage to the U.S., especially in terms of ceasing exports of some pharmaceuticals, phones, and computers. But ultimately, it cannot win—and will eventually lose catastrophically. It will likely accept that reality sooner rather than later.

We are only in the first week of the escalating rhetoric and tariffs. But already China is appealing to its Asian rivals, Australia, and the EU to join in fighting the supposed American bully.

‘Let those US peasants wail in front of 5,000 years of Chinese civilisation!’: Beijing fires extraordinary trade war broadside following JD Vance’s slur

Beijing has accused the US of trying to ‘take away Hong Kong’s life’ in a fiery attack that criticised Donald Trump’s tariffs and JD Vance’s shocking ‘peasants’ slur.

Xia Baolong, a top Chinese official who oversees Hong Kong affairs, branded the US tariffs as ‘extremely shameless’ today as he warned that bullying has never worked on Chinese people – including those from Hong Kong.

‘Let those peasants in the United States wail in front of the 5,000 years of Chinese civilisation,’ Xia, the director of China’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office under the State Council, said in a televised speech today.

China’s Cybersecurity ‘Pearl Harbor’ Against America: ‘Everything, Everywhere, All at Once’

China’s multidimensional war against US interests is already underway and well-documented. One underappreciated dimension of its attack on American primacy, however, is the arena of cybersecurity.

For decades, Communist China’s spies, hackers and businessmen have feasted on the forced transfer of technology from vulnerable US corporate enterprises drawn to the vast Chinese market. Little has been accomplished to reduce this massive theft of intellectual property. US businesses seem to have resigned themselves to such unfair practices as the price of doing business in China.

Diane Francis: Stop complaining and cut a deal with Trump

In this federal election, it’s important for Canadians to remember that geography is destiny. Like it or not, Canada is tethered to the United States, and the next prime minister will have to sit down and cut a deal with the protectionist and erratic U.S. President Donald Trump.

Unfortunately, Liberal Leader Mark Carney fails to fully grasp the situation. Despite agreeing to negotiate with Trump after the election, he pronounced the old U.S.-Canada relationship “over,” and made state visits to London and Paris in the apparent belief that the 27 squabbling members of the European Union can replace America as Canada’s economic partner.

China is the enemy the US hopes to defeat.

Given that Carney, the LPC and the China class have chosen to side with the ChiComs I doubt that Trump will offer favourable terms.

CSIS Warned Beijing Would Brand Conservatives as Trumpian. Now Carney’s Campaign Is Doing It.

OTTAWA — Canadian intelligence reported in 2021 that Beijing planned to interfere in Canada’s next federal election with disinformation suggesting the Conservatives “will follow the path of … Donald Trump”—a narrative now echoed in a clandestine dirty tricks operation exposed inside Prime Minister Mark Carney’s campaign.

The warning comes from a classified CSIS bulletin dated December 20, 2021 and marked Secret, distributed to Canadian departments including Global Affairs Canada, the Privy Council Office, the Communications Security Establishment, and Five Eyes intelligence partners. The report was based on information from Chinese consular officials in Canada.

British Steel tries to reverse Communist Chinese ‘sabotage’ of Scunthorpe furnace

Engineers are racing to save the furnaces at British Steel’s Scunthorpe site after a “sabotage” attempt by its owners to push reliance on Chinese steel, the Times understands.

Ministers have stopped short of publicly accusing Jingye of deliberately trying to shut down the site, but sources told The Times that a string of actions pointed to the company taking steps that would lead to Britain becoming reliant on cheap Chinese steel.

President Donald J. Trump Is About to ‘Roll’ the Communist Chinese

History’s great Benjamin Franklin is credited with saying, “Nothing is certain except death and taxes.”

I would paraphrase Franklin’s wise words with this update: “Nothing is certain except these people always being wrong: former Congressman Joe Walsh…MSNBC’s prince of darkness Lawrence O’Donnell…and virtually any cast member on The View.”

I wonder what the US knows about Carney and the Liberal Party’s collusion with Red China.

It likely explains the lack of tariff relief that other nations currently enjoy.

UK takes control of British Steel under emergency powers to prevent China shutting plants down

The UK government is taking control of Chinese-owned British Steel after emergency legislation was rushed through Parliament in a single day.

Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told MPs the government’s likely next step would be to nationalise the Scunthorpe plant, which employs 2,700 people.

But he said he was forced to seek emergency powers to prevent owners Jingye shutting down its two blast furnaces, which would have ended primary steel production in the UK.

Don’t do business with the Chicoms like Carney does.

Liberal candidate accepted invitation from China to celebrate People’s Liberation Army event

A Liberal candidate running in a Greater Toronto Area riding, whose candidacy has come under scrutiny for ties to pro-Beijing groups, accepted an invitation from China to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army victory over Japan in the Second World War.

Peter Yuen, who has also been linked to Toronto’s Chinese consulate, joined a group of about 70 Chinese Canadians for the Tiananmen Square celebration in September, 2015.

Foreign interference tactics in Canada always changing, says target

The Chinese Communist Party is always changing the way it interferes in elections in Canada and other countries, says former Steveston-Richmond MP Kenny Chiu.

The Conservative party politician was the target of a smear campaign during the 2021 election, which took place when many Chinese-language media outlets in Canada labelled him “anti-Chinese” and a “race traitor.”

Carney says he never heard of pro-Beijing group despite photos with its leaders

Liberal Leader Mark Carney says he had never heard of a pro-Beijing lobby group in the Toronto area despite photos on the Jiangsu Commerce Council of Canada’s website showing him with members of its leadership.

He was asked Thursday about Peter Yuen, the Liberal Party candidate for the Ontario riding of Markham-Unionville. Mr. Yuen was appointed to replace Paul Chiang, who stepped down after news broke that he had talked to reporters about how someone could take a Conservative candidate and human-rights advocate to the Chinese consulate to claim a bounty put on him by Hong Kong authorities.
