Inside the surreal Dutch lockdown – You can visit a brothel but not a bar

Sitting respectfully in our ‘pews’, we put our hands together… and clap. This is not a service but a comedy night. And Amsterdam’s newest ‘church’ is really a theatre for debate and cultural centre in disguise. Incensed by the illogical nature of the current Dutch coronavirus restrictions, Yoeri Albrecht, director of De Balie, last week changed the statutes of his organisation and registered it with the chamber of commerce as a faith-based movement: overnight, The Philosophical Society; the Community of Reason was born.

In an interview with CBC’s Power & Politics, Alghabra said the government is not interested in alternatives like rapid testing for unvaccinated truckers. ‘Peace, freedom, no dictatorship!’: Germans protest against Covid restrictions

The university city of Cottbus held one of 2,000 rallies across Germany on Monday, stoked by the far right

On Monday evening on the dot of 7pm people emerged from dimly lit side streets and gathered on the Oberkirchplatz square in Cottbus for what has become a weekly ritual in towns and cities across Germany: a protest against coronavirus protection measures.

The demonstrations have grown in strength as cases of the Omicron variant have surged, and in recent weeks a looming decision on bringing in a vaccine mandate has become the focus of protesters’ ire. More than 2,000 rallies were held nationwide on Monday, drawing tens of thousands of participants.

In Cottbus, a university city south-east of Berlin, a familiar pattern played out. Moments after the protest started, police declared over megaphone that it was illegal – the participants did not wear masks or physically distance from each other. Groups then broke away and began the Spaziergänge, walks that snake in a variety of directions and are designed to overwhelm any police response.

The Horror! Durham police investigating after constable posts video supporting truckers’ anti-vaccine rally

Durham Regional Police say it’s investigating after being made aware of a video posted by one of its uniformed constables supporting a protest against anti-vaccine mandates being held by truckers across the country.

Many truck drivers have carried out Canada-wide rallies to protest vaccine mandates with big rigs set to arrive in Ottawa over the weekend. Setting off from Vancouver on Sunday, the so-called “Freedom Convoy” GoFundMe page has raised more the 3.5-million-dollars from donors.

I can’t for the life of me figure out what she said that was so “wrong.”

To witness the Covid divide, walk from Brooklyn to Queens

Attitudes are no longer about red states or blue states — it’s all down to class

In the US, the divide over Covid-19 restrictions is often cast as a matter of red versus blue states. Republican states like Florida have banned vaccine passports and school mask mandates, and have heavily restricted the ability of employers to mandate vaccination for their employees. In blue states, and especially in deep-blue cities like New York and Washington, D.C., mask mandates are the norm and patrons are required to show proof of vaccination to enter a bar, eat indoors at a restaurant, or go to a movie theatre or gym.
