Essential services across Canada hit by staff shortages due to COVID-19

Emergency services in many major Canadian cities are facing staffing shortages due to a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, with police, ambulance and fire all scrambling to redeploy and bolster their ranks.

The Failed State(s) Of Canada?

A national leader stoking divisions in the most cynical way, asking if certain people in the country should be ‘tolerated’ and demonizing a group for his own political advantage.

Repeated closures of businesses on the whims of politicians.

Rules that benefit a select few while punishing everyone else, like allowing professional athletes to keep training while closing gyms to the general public.

Whiplash-inducing reversals by government officials that seem almost designed to cause further mental health anguish in the population.

Incompetent management of the healthcare system, which is then used as the pretext to take away rights and freedoms.

Quebec is the most locked down place in North America

For all the vaccine passports and shutdowns in provinces across the country, only Quebec has gone so far as to impose a curfew on its citizens to supposedly flatten the curve. Twice. The latest curfew went into effect New Year’s Eve and subjects Quebecers to fines if they are caught outside their homes at night. Westphalian Times senior editor Marie Oakes joined The Andrew Lawton Show to talk about Quebec’s restrictions and why a number of Canadians – including her – are headed for the border and not looking back.

Omicron’s Silver Lining

Omicron’s Silver Lining

The highly contagious Covid variant is by all indications less severe, so it will provide widespread immunity—and maybe even hasten the end of the pandemic.

New Covid-19 infections are reaching record levels in the U.S. and Europe. The surge is due both to the Delta variant that flourished over the past six months and to the new Omicron variant, which, in the week of December 19–December 25, became predominant, accounting for approximately 60 percent of U.S. cases. The rise of Omicron has largely been greeted with apprehension, but the new variant, which tends to cause mild illness, offers hope for a more promising path forward.

COVID-19 testing capacity is overwhelmed. Here’s how Canadians can still measure risk

Canada has lost sight of the true size of its pandemic, with the number of people infected with COVID-19 now a mystery, as the highly infectious Omicron variant overwhelms testing capacity across the country.

Omicron is causing a never-before-seen surge in COVID-19 that has prompted provinces to reinstate curfews and gathering restrictions, shutter bars and restaurants and move schooling back online in a desperate attempt to mitigate the impact on hospitals.

New Ontario COVID-19 restrictions take effect today amid ‘explosive’ growth in hospitalizations

Ontario residents and business across the province will face a new set of restrictions Wednesday meant to curb the rampant spread of COVID-19.

The measures were announced by Premier Doug Ford on Monday and went into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 5.

The restrictions, a return to Step Two of the province’s reopening plan, include the closure of indoor dining, food courts, gyms and theatres, as well as lower capacity limits in most other settings.

7 COVID ‘Conspiracy Theories’ That Came True in 2021

Over the last year, governments, media entities, and useful idiots unified in their collective slander of anyone who can put two and two together, labelling everything off message as a conspiracy theory. This happened consistently throughout 2021, even as governments laid the groundwork to implement the very policies they claimed were risible ‘conspiracy theories.’

Retrospectively, it almost seemed like a war against critical thinking.
