More than 17,000 Quebec health-care workers face suspension for refusing COVID-19 vaccine

More than 17,000 health-care workers in Quebec will be suspended next month for refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and now provincial officials are scrambling to fill in the gaps.

A spokesperson for Health Minister Christian Dubé told CBC on Monday that a total of 17,642 employees within Quebec’s health-care network still haven’t had their first dose.

Nearly half of those unvaccinated employees are front-line workers who are in direct contact with patients, the spokesperson said.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario says Dr. Patrick Phillips, who is based in Englehart, is now barred from providing medical exemptions regarding COVID-19 vaccines, masking requirements and testing.

Ontario health units preparing for COVID vaccinations of kids aged five to 11

TORONTO — Ontario health units are developing plans for the vaccination of children aged five to 11 once COVID-19 shots are approved for them.

Toronto Public Health said Monday that it had formed a planning group that includes health partners, school boards, community representatives and the province, while top doctors for Peel Region, Middlesex-London, Hamilton and Ottawa also said they were making arrangements.

Unvaccinated NBA players eligible to play in Toronto under national interest exemption

General manager Bobby Webster says the team decided to stay in Toronto for camp this year to reconnect with its hometown, adding that many players and staff hadn’t been to the city.

Webster says the Raptors are one second dose away from being fully vaccinated and will be at 100 per cent by opening night on Oct. 20.

Visiting players who are unvaccinated can play in Toronto this season under a National Interest Exemption, meaning they will be restricted to Scotiabank Arena and the team hotel, and will have to pass COVID-19 test when they arrive in Canada.

Two docs call for banning all unvaccinated Albertans from employment

Two Alberta doctors — Dr. Noel Gibney and Dr. James Talbot — have written a letter to the provincial government saying non-vaccinated people shouldn’t be allowed to be employed in Alberta.

The letter from Talbot and Gibney to Health Minister Jason Copping demanded the implementation of seven measures to help stem the COVID-19 crisis in the province.
