DOUBLE-DOUBLE MUTANT: Indian researchers identify new strain of mutated B.1.617

Just two weeks after Indian researchers identified the new ‘double-mutant’ B.1.617 COVID-19 strain, a consortium of scientists in that country have uncovered a new mutation that shows an even stronger resistance to antibodies.

Dubbed B.1.618, the new variant was found in samples taken in West Bengal, the easternmost state in India that shares a border with Bangladesh and home to Kolkata, the nation’s seventh-most populous city.

‘More people are catching on’: Travellers using U.S.-Canada land border to avoid quarantine hotels

Greg Peacock walked across the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, Ont., and back into Canada with his three puppies in hand, pausing to take some selfies, but he didn’t cross here for the view.

He chose this particular point of entry from the United States to avoid the mandatory three-day stay at a quarantine hotel that applies to air travellers entering Canada.

“I don’t want to spend three days or whatever it is locked up at a hotel when I’m back in Toronto to do work,” he said.

Quebec confirms first case of ‘double mutant’ variant from India

Quebec has identified its first case of the B.1.617 variant of COVID-19 that originated in India and is believed to be fuelling the pandemic surge in that country.

The case was identified in a patient in the Mauricie region, north of Trois-Rivières, officials with the Institut national de la santé du Québec (INSPQ) confirmed Wednesday.

There is no such thing as a ‘double mutant’. This is shameless fearmongering.

Ontario police can now ID children to enforce new restrictions

Police in Ontario say the province has given them the power to ID anyone gathering in public – even if they are children.

“If [police] see something like that going on,” Peel Regional Police spokeswoman Const. Danny Marttini said of gatherings, “they would ask to identify all parties that are participating.”

America’s Smug Elite Is Harming Our Kids

U.S. public health experts increasingly urge the reopening of schools, and yet much of the country still seems unable to do so. This is the most visible and, perhaps, most tragic consequence of the toxic environment surrounding discussions of how to respond to the pandemic that has been driven by a technocratic elite harboring a dim view of the public’s role in important discussions. Yet it is not the failure of the public, but rather of these self-appointed guardians of public discourse to glimpse their own shortcomings, that has crippled our national debate.

Where life is normal – Just outside of city centers the pandemic is hardly visible

Left-wing magazine Slate took the stunning and brave step Saturday of publishing an article outlining the case for no longer wearing masks outside.

‘As we’ve come to know more about the virus, as vaccinations are ramping up, and as we’re trying to figure out how to live with some level of COVID in a sustainable way, masking up outside when you’re at most briefly crossing paths with people is starting to feel barely understandable,’ the author reasoned.

WARMINGTON: Toronto’s COVID-19 policing squads loaded with land mines

Get out of town by sundown?

“The new enforcement approach begins April 22, 2021 at 5 p.m.,” say Toronto Police.

It’s like an ominous warning from the sheriff in an old Western movie. Could it be setting rank-and-file officers up for unnecessary conflicts while trampling people’s basic Charter rights? Does it give people being policed the heads up of when they are coming?

Ontario reports 3,682 new China virus cases … and the India B1617 variant says hello with more to come

Ontario reports nearly 3,700 new cases of COVID-19 as number of patients in ICUs surpasses 800

Ontario is reporting nearly 3,700 new instances of COVID-19 but there may be some signs that case counts are finally starting to stabilize after weeks of exponential growth.

The Ministry of Health says that there were 3,682 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus confirmed on Wednesday, along with another 40 deaths.

B1617 variant has been detected in Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec region

A first case of B1617, a COVID-19 variant first detected in India, has been identified in Quebec’s Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec region, according to public health authorities.

This is thought to be the first case of this type of variant detected in Quebec. The Mauricie region is between Montreal and Quebec City.

The infected person was already in isolation during screening because another person in their home had tested positive, says the region’s health authority, the CIUSSS de Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec.

Ottawa consulting on stricter border measures, won’t stop flights from India

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is indicating the federal government is looking at additional COVID-19 measures to protect international borders but won’t stop flights into Canada from India.

In an interview with Global News Wednesday, Trudeau said community spread continues to be the main concern and not international travel.

I’m not sure which country Justin and his cronies are working for only that it isn’t Canada.

“We know that, with viruses, it’s practically impossible to prevent new variants from arriving here in Canada,” said deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo, speaking in French during a COVID-19 update on April 21.

Especially when you don’t even try.
