Here’s why insiders say Pierre Poilievre is succeeding where Andrew Scheer and Erin O’Toole failed

OTTAWA — It was a version of a speech Pierre Poilievre delivered dozens of times to rallies in months of running for leadership of the Conservative party.

But this time, the audience wasn’t drawn from the thousands of political newcomers who had spilled out of bars and basements, and ultimately helped deliver his win six months ago.

Anti-abortion groups angered by ouster of candidate for Conservative nomination

Two national anti-abortion groups are raising concerns about Pierre Poilievre’s leadership after the federal Conservative party upheld the disqualification of a candidate for a party nomination in Ontario although he was backed by five MPs.

Gerrit Van Dorland’s supporters in the southwestern Ontario riding of Oxford included Leslyn Lewis, a two-time candidate for the leadership of the Conservatives.

Justin Trudeau is failing a test of leadership

MONTREAL—If the debate over Chinese interference in Canada’s politics is a test of leadership, both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre are going out of their way to fail it.

That starts with Trudeau, who came peculiarly late to the realization that the issue of the integrity of Canada’s democratic system could not be swept under the carpet. He has been playing catch up — with very relative success — since then.

Animal-welfare campaigners rail against Poilievre plan to expand Canada’s seal hunt

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he would expand Canada’s seal hunt if he becomes prime minister, provoking condemnation from animal-welfare groups in Canada, the U.S. and Britain, as well as singer-songwriter Jann Arden and Baywatch star Pamela Anderson.

Mr. Poilievre blamed opposition to the cull on “eco-nuts” in the United States and European Union and said killing more seals was needed to curb a rise in the seal population and protect Atlantic salmon, which he said were “being gobbled up by the excessive population of seals.”

Pierre Poilievre blamed as anti-abortion candidate rejected in Conservative nomination spat

OTTAWA — An anti-abortion group is crying foul – and blaming Pierre Poilievre — after “the most winnable pro-life” candidate was disqualified from the race to decide who should run for the federal Conservatives in a rural Ontario riding.

But party headquarters moved swiftly Wednesday to distance itself from the suggestion that Gerrit Van Dorland’s views were the issue, saying the problem was that he hid information from his candidate application.

What happens when Mr. Loud becomes Mr. Quiet? Ask Pierre Poilievre

In the Mr. Men classic children’s books by Roger Hargreaves, the characters are all defined by a single attribute. Mr. Tickle has long, undulating – frankly, disturbing – arms for administering his greeting of choice. Little Miss Giggles conducts herself like a stoned hyena. Mr. Greedy is shaped like an eggplant, though he recovers from his disordered eating by the end of the book.

Tory MPs knew what they were getting into with Anderson meeting: organizers

The people who arranged a lunchtime meeting between three Conservative MPs and controversial far-right German politician Christine Anderson are disputing Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s claim that the Canadian legislators went into the gathering with no knowledge of Ms. Anderson’s views.

The two organizers of the meeting, Stacey Kauder and Bethan Nodwell, also say Mr. Poilievre has shown a lack of respect for the many Canadians who turned out for the other events they arranged with Ms. Anderson, which included speaking engagements in several Canadian cities last week.

Poilievre denies speaking with anti-immigration German politician

Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is denying that he has ever spoken with controversial far-right German politician Christine Anderson, despite her claims that they have conversed on more than one occasion, and that she found him to be a “decent guy.”

“Mr. Poilievre has never spoken to Christine Anderson, and any suggestion that he has is categorically false,” Sebastian Skamski, media relations director for the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition, said in a statement on Sunday.

Pierre Poilievre says Christine Anderson the German politician who met with Tory MPs is anti-immigration and that’s ‘vile’ and ‘racist’

OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre denounced a German politician after several Tory MPs were criticized for meeting with her while she was in Canada this week.

She represents the Alternative for Germany party, a right-wing populist party that opposes immigration. Parts of the party were put under surveillance as a suspected extremist group by Germany’s intelligence agency in 2021.

The chair of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network and at least two Canadian Jewish organizations expressed concern about the MPs having dinner with Anderson.

From the Globe: Conservative MPs criticized for meeting with anti-immigration German politician

“As we have stressed in response to previous incidents of this nature, it is imperative that members of Parliament do their due diligence when agreeing to formal meetings,” Nicole Amiel of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, said in a statement issued on Friday.

The previous night, the centre said in a tweet that it was “deeply concerned” about the meeting with Ms. Anderson, whom they described as a member of a party “known for Islamophobic and anti-immigrant views.”

This is the same bullshit we have seen with Scheer, O’Toole and now Poilievre. Liberal Party wannabes dressed up as conservatives.

The NatPo article even quotes one of the Antifa loving Anti-Hate Hateys. I wonder if Pierre will denounce them?

Bottom line? You will be made a target and labelled a racist for defending your rights & speaking out against their mass-immigration scam.

To Jagmeet 1 & 2 and Justin – Fuck you all.

Will I Vote UNIPARTY?

No thanks.

Pierre Poilievre’s media-bashing foreshadows his approach to governing

This is a dark hole that the Conservative leader is taking his party down. Threats and even attacks on journalists are on the rise in many countries.

A universal tool of demagogues is to demonize and threaten journalists. It’s an effective tactic, especially when aligned with a parallel campaign to create their own controlled media.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been revealed by Florida media and Harvard’s Neiman School as the latest threat to an independent media, seeking legislation to intimidate independent journalists by setting minimal requirements to suing them for libel.

Pierre Poilievre hits back at CBC head’s ‘partisan attack’

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has accused CBC president Catherine Tait of launching a partisan attack on him, saying she is “not even pretending to be unbiased” based on her remarks in a Globe and Mail interview this week.

Ms. Tait also came under fire from CBC viewers and supporters on Wednesday over her disclosure in that same interview that the CBC is preparing to end traditional TV and radio broadcasts and go completely digital, as audiences shift to streaming.

GOLDSTEIN: Freezing out the national media hasn’t hurt Poilievre

Contrary to what was widely predicted, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s selective shunning of what he describes as the anti-Conservative media that dominate the Parliamentary Press Gallery hasn’t hurt him in the polls.

That raises the question of whether he can win the next election without them.

I thought he did great but will I vote for the CPC? Unlikely.

Pierre Poilievre gains support at Justin Trudeau’s expense as the Conservatives put a tumultuous year behind them

OTTAWA — Candice Bergen’s announcement Wednesday that she’s resigning as a member of Parliament caps a year of turmoil for the Conservative party, which is only now beginning to find its footing under new leader Pierre Poilievre.

The departure of the party stalwart and former interim leader — a Stephen Harper-era veteran tasked with trying to hold together a fractious party after an internal civil war last year — is the latest sign yet of the generational change underway within the Conservatives as Poilievre plots a course toward the next federal election.

To hold off Pierre Poilievre, Justin Trudeau has to counter a familiar — and effective — playbook

“Everything feels broken,” laments Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre each time he’s in front of a microphone.

“Justin,” as he calls Prime Minister Trudeau, has made everything worse, he says. From rising inflation to soaring rents, to opioid deaths and to the wave of violent crimes on the TTC. Canadians, Poilievre says, “deserve better than this. And better is what they will get.”

If this sounds familiar, it is. Poilievre has borrowed from Trudeau’s successful 2015 campaign slogan “better is always possible.” He’s also appropriated from David Cameron, the former Conservative leader in the United Kingdom whose “Broken Britain” campaign saw the Tories successfully argue Labour’s big government promise had failed to deliver.

They should have Justin run on his record.
