‘It’s the real deal’: Doctors warn of future wave fueled by Omicron variants

COVID-19 cases are on the rise again in Canada, and the blame lies with the two rapidly spreading Omicron sub-variants, also known as BA.4 and BA.5 variants.

First detected in South Africa in April this year, its ability to spread more rapidly than other circulating variants, primarily BA.2, has led scientists to predict its prevalence as the dominant variant in the coming months.

Canadian researchers examining the threat from emerging strains of COVID-19 predicted that Omicron BA.5 would account for nearly 70 percent of cases by Canada Day. the latest data from the Public Health Agency of Canadadating back to June 12, shows that BA.5 accounted for 20.4 percent of COVID-19 cases.

What progressive extremism experts get wrong

An entire industry has been built on narcissism

… With a finite number of terrorist groups to map and study, the experts needed to branch out: so they heartily embraced the concept of extremism, a category so capacious and permissively malleable that it encompasses not only behaviour and thought but conceivably anything that the expert in question deems politically undesirable or “problematic”. This made the field acutely vulnerable to exploitation by political activists whose interest is less to study extremists than to manufacture them in an effort to stigmatise and silence their political opponents.

Over the last few years, as my colleague Liam Duffy has documented, the study of extremism has ballooned exponentially: there are now experts on gaming and extremismclimate-change and extremismsport and extremismgender and extremism, fashion and extremismmusic and extremismneo-Nazi accelerationistsincelsfemcelsjihadi poetry, and far-Right speech-codes. One expert has even written an article on “LOL extremism”.

Sudden Adult Death Syndrome baffles doctors

A strange new medical anomaly has doctors baffled as it sweeps across the country. Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) is on the rise, and it’s tragically claiming the lives of healthy young adults, sometimes in their sleep.

Essentially, people are dying without displaying any prior sign of illness. They simply do not wake up after going to bed, or collapse during the day.

Reports of SADS have been increasing in recent weeks. A news.com web piece explains that, ‘Sudden Adult Death Syndrome … is an umbrella term to describe unexpected deaths in young people, usually under 40, when a post-mortem can find no obvious cause of death.’

Here’s why experts say Canada isn’t headed for a recession

Canada’s annual inflation rate hit 7.7 per cent for the month of May, according to data released by Statistics Canada on Wednesday, the highest level of growth seen in nearly 40 years. With inflation reaching astronomical levels, some Canadians may be concerned that rising costs will lead to a decline in economic activity and eventually trigger a recession.

The experts are lying to you

Their laundering of the truth is deliberate and tactical

With most of the world’s information only a click away, one would have assumed that ours would be the most enlightened generation in human history. We may have lost the rote-learning skills and depth of knowledge of our grandparents, but we know where to find the facts and can do so in an instant.

For all that, many of us have developed the habit of reading multiple accounts of any given news item, because so often reports are filtered through an ideological lens. There was, for instance, Omar Jimenez’s coverage of protests in Kenosha for CNN, described as “mostly peaceful” in the chyron running under the report in spite of the clearly visible backdrop of burning cars and buildings. Similarly, the BBC was roundly mocked for its description of “largely peaceful” protests in London, in which 27 police officers were injured.
