Germany: New sabotage warning issued for water supply

German authorities told residents of a town in the west of the country to avoid using or consuming water from the taps on Thursday afternoon amid fears that the water supply had been tampered with.

The warning came after a hole was found in the fence around the supply, which also feeds a nearby military base. The warning was partially lifted on Monday, but residents were told to boil tap water before drinking it.

The incident in the town of Mechernich, in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, was discovered after another suspected case of sabotage was reported close to a military base at Cologne airport, not far from the town of Mechernich.

Police in German State To Start Naming Suspects’ Nationality

Police should in future always state the nationality of criminal suspects as a matter of principle, the interior minister of a German state has said.

Herbert Reul, interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, said the move would create a sense of transparency, but would also save the police time since their press offices are heavily involved in answering press enquiries over suspects’ nationalities.

German Court: Reporting on ‘Remigration’ Conspiracy Was False

AfD’s legal representative says left-wing media dreamed up the Potsdam plot.

Claims by a German state-funded, left-wing media outlet about a conspiracy to conduct the mass deportation of migrants have been shattered in court. A ruling by a court in Hamburg prohibits public broadcasters from repeating the allegation that the expulsion of German citizens of foreign origin was discussed by participants at a meeting in Potsdam last November.

Germany funds something on the order of 27 “news sites.”

Former Spy Chief Condemns German Ban on Right-Wing Magazine

The outrage caused by the German interior ministry’s decision to ban the right-wing Compact magazine is not dying down as more and more legal experts weigh in on the subject. It is not surprising that lawmakers of the leftist-liberal government are pleased to see a government-critical media outlet silenced, but experts on constitutional law have made it clear that the ban amounts to nothing less than an attack on the freedom of the press.

German Youth are Rejecting ‘National Shame’

I taught humanities to hundreds of students at two international schools in Germany over a period of several years. My primary subject was history and each time it came to covering World War II, British kids were excited; American kids were broadly well-informed; and the German kids dreaded it. Their heads dropped at the very mention of the unit. I vividly remember Laura, an 8th grader, say, “We’re the bad guys and everyone hates us. We did nothing—our parents weren’t even born.” That is quite a weight to carry before a single class had been taught.

The reparations war that could break the EU

Poland has been forced to let go of its history

Since its inception, the European project has always aimed to bring about the end of history on the continent, and to finally put the ceaseless cycle of war, extremism and imperialism that had torn Europe apart for a thousand years to rest.

Yet history’s severed heads have a troublesome habit of growing back. The Russian invasion of Ukraine served as a powerful reminder of this reality for the European mainstream, but other unresolved threads of the continent’s brutal and very recent past have also re-emerged in much more subtle ways.

Women should be included in conscription plan, says German army chief

Carsten Breuer urges ‘gender equality’ in government’s proposal for new a national service intended to meet Nato obligations

The head of Germany’s armed forces has called for women as well as men to be included in the government’s plans to revive conscription on a limited scale.

The defence ministry wants to introduce a “new military service”, loosely based on the Swedish model, where all 18-year-old men would be obliged to put their names down but only the most suitable and motivated 5,000 would be called up.

The aim is to make up for a shortage of 20,000 regular soldiers and ultimately to establish a pool of at least another 100,000 reservists with military training.
