“Death to Israel,” an ideology and goal shared by Iran’s Islamic Republic, Hamas, and Hezbollah, will be put to the test in the coming days and weeks — and America is yet to fully connect the dots, which may include the much-advertised drive to promote Saudi-Israeli peace.

“We haven’t yet seen direct evidence that Iran was behind this particular attack, or involved,” Secretary Blinken told ABC News, adding, however, that Iran’s support of Hamas over the years “is clear.”

A couple of possibilities to explain Israel’s (and America’s) intelligence failures

For a sneak attack of the size Hamas launched against Israel to have happened (5,000 rockets, parachuters, towns infiltrated, Iranian and, possibly, Ukrainian involvement), there must have been an absolutely epic intelligence failure both in Israel and, to the extent the U.S. helps Israel with information, here in America, too. I have two ideas about how that could have happened, both of which are premised on significant problems within the two country’s intelligence services (especially Israel’s). I’ll start with the one that bespeaks actual evil and then get to the more likely one, which reflects human nature.

Iran’s regime may find that it only strengthens the coalition against them

Some Israelis are calling it their 9/11, but the images this weekend were more redolent of the 1968 Tet Offensive, when Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops took over towns and military bases across the South, including laying siege to the US Embassy in Saigon.

Of course, in that case it was aimed against foreign military forces propping up what was essentially a puppet dictatorship, whereas this time it featured external aggression aimed at killing and capturing as many civilians in as sensationalist a manner as possible.

Death toll rises to more than 1,100 after surprise Hamas attack on Israel

The Israeli death toll after the surprise attack by the militant group Hamas on communities in the country’s south has risen to at least 700, including 44 soldiers, as the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said Israel was embarking on a “long and difficult war”.

In Gaza, which was pummelled by Israeli airstrikes, officials reported at least 413 deaths.

With thousands of Israelis and Palestinians wounded since Saturday morning, Israel said more than 100 Israeli citizens, including women and children, were believed to have been abducted at gunpoint by Hamas to Gaza.

Two Israeli tourists and local guide shot dead in Egypt, Israel says

Two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide have been shot dead in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, the Israeli foreign ministry says.

Another Israeli was wounded in the attack on Sunday morning, which the ministry said a “local” carried out.

There was no immediate confirmation from Egyptian authorities.

But the private Extra News TV channel reported that a policeman had opened fire on a group visiting an ancient Roman site known as Pompey’s Pillar.

The assailant fired “at random” using his personal weapon, it cited a security source as saying, adding that he was detained at the scene.

But at 6.30am on Saturday, they were among thousands of young partygoers enjoying the sunrise but unaware that their lives were about to change for ever. At first, the air raid sirens seemed as if they were part of the trance music, survivors said. Then rocket vapour trails began appearing in the sky above: people began panicking about being caught in the open and rushed to their cars. And then the gunfire began.

Colonel Richard Kemp, the former commander of the British military forces in Afghanistan, spoke to Israel National News – Arutz Sheva on Sunday about the Hamas-launched war on Israel in which over 350 people have been murdered so far and stated that Russia’s hand can be seen in the attack in addition to the hand of Iran.

The attack began with a coordinated breach of the Gaza border fence at multiple locations accompanied by the firing of thousands of rockets into southern Israel, allowing squads of terrorists to penetrate into Israel and attack numerous communities and cities in southern Israel in the early morning. Enough Israeli hostages taken to swap ‘all Palestinian prisoners’ held in Israeli prisons, according to Hamas

Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chief of Hamas, who is based in Lebanon, told Al Jazeera news on Saturday that the Iranian-backed terrorist organization has taken enough hostages to “release all our prisoners,” referring to terrorists jailed in Israel.

“We managed to kill and capture many Israeli soldiers. The fighting is still on,” al-Arouri said.

“Our detainees in [Israeli] prisons, their freedom is looming large. What we have in our hands will release all our prisoners. The longer fighting continues, the higher the number of prisoners will become.”

Congressional “Squad” members were blasted for urging a ceasefire in the Middle East after Hamas fighters killed hundreds of Israelis Saturday in a shocking sneak attack that led Israel to launch retaliatory strikes.

America’s Betrayal of Israel

I am writing this on Saturday, as news outlets report hundreds of Israeli dead, and dozens, if not hundreds, of soldiers and civilians kidnapped by Hamas terrorists and taken into Gaza.

It is never a good idea to write anything as events are still rapidly unfolding, especially as neither I nor anyone else can answer the only question that ultimately matters—namely, “what happens now?” But we can answer another, much more rudimentary and no less urgent question: Who’s at fault?
