Latest vandalism of baby Jesus statue ‘just one small incident among others,’ Sudbury church says

A church in Greater Sudbury, Ont., says vandalism to a well-known statue is just one of many problems it’s been having.

The statue of Mary and baby Jesus was damaged last month at Ste-Anne-des-Pins Catholic Church on Beech Street. The same statue was damaged six years ago, and the temporary repair at the time made national headlines.

At no time did we see more of that behaviour than during the past 16 months of the COVID-19 pandemic when we expected our politicians to show some modicum of leadership.

When asked whether they support a federal government bill to promote and demote content in the results of search functions on social media sites like YouTube and Facebook, 62% of Ontario residents said they oppose this initiative. Of those, 41% said they strongly oppose the government having this power, while only 6% strongly support it.
