Joe Biden face-planted in one of the highest stakes moments of his political life — igniting widespread concerns among Democrats about his fitness as a candidate.
Debating former President Donald Trump with a raspy voice, wandering eyes, pallid complexion and a halting delivery, Biden’s performance was at times unintelligible. And though Trump blustered through his own answers with falsehoods, there was one defining issue: Biden’s age.
It is valid to ask who is running the country.

President Joe Biden opened the debate with a raspy voice and disjointed, rambling answers, reigniting Democratic concerns about his age and ability to take on former President Donald Trump.
Many of the president’s answers were hard to follow. At one point, seemingly losing his train of thought, Biden said “we finally beat Medicare,” misspeaking about his own policy on earned benefits.
In text messages with POLITICO, Democrats expressed confusion and concern as they watched the first minutes of the event. One former Biden White House and campaign aide called it “terrible,” adding that they have had to ask themselves over and over “What did he just say? This is crazy.”

A subgenre of Republican commentary this election is the scolding of Democrats, establishment media, White House staffers, and Jill Biden for their callous cruelty in exposing Joe Biden’s cognitive decline before millions of people. As a New York Post editorial wrote, “Whatever it [the reason] is, to any outsider it looks downright cruel to keep trotting Biden around under the pretense that he can possibly serve four more years in the world’s most grueling job. . . . How much longer must we bear this grim charade?”
National Review senior editor Charles C. W. Cooke, on today’s edition of The Editors, said President Biden’s public image is so bad that he “has to crush it to get anywhere near winning” the upcoming presidential debate on Thursday.
Cooke listed the Biden administration’s major policy failures of the past three years, from the Afghanistan withdrawal to “his illegal attempt to give money to students by so-called student-loan forgiveness,” adding: “He’s a guy who has become a national embarrassment.

Major media are aiming to repeat their performance from the 2020 presidential election, back when they endeavored to deny, dismiss, and denounce a story that could have damaged the Democratic presidential nominee.
In that election cycle, the press reflexively rallied behind a theory that the contents of the infamous Hunter Biden laptop were “Russian disinformation,” a Kremlin plot to throw the election in the GOP’s favor. Some went as far as to suggest that the laptop itself was fake (or stolen or didn’t belong to Hunter). Under the flimsy pretense of combating Russian interference, major media engaged in an industry-wide conspiracy to censor and reject the story.
The laptop is real. It appeared as evidence against Hunter Biden in his gun-felony case.
And Hunter’s conviction is his Golden Parachute.

CBS News reported on Wednesday that Americans should expect “surprises” from President Joe Biden at next week’s presidential debate.

Partisanship being what it is, people assumed I was upset about the policy itself when I said I couldn’t see him running for office again after that speech — but not so. (I didn’t even disagree with the Afghanistan withdrawal per se, only its disgraceful and reputation-shattering execution.)
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced a wave of criticism Monday after claiming a series of viral videos of President Biden appearing frail in the past week were “deepfakes.”
Numerous controversial videos have emerged of Biden during his visits to commemorate D-Day in France, attend the G-7 summit in Italy, and attend a recent fundraiser for his campaign that have raised questions about his age.
