The Liberal Canadian Finance Minister’s budget includes an investigation into cryptocurrency while also compelling crowdfunding sites to report “suspicious transactions.”
Mirroring some of the financial actions taken under the Emergencies Act, the budget that Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced yesterday said a “legislative review” into cryptocurrency will be launched on top of the implementation of stricter regulatory measures on crowdfunding sites and payment processors.
From an historical perspective, political status among nations often shifts with the passage of time. Countries that were once democratic transition to authoritarian governance, while others take a reverse pattern.
Historians speak of such transformations in terms of “left against right,” liberalism versus nationalism, or capitalism versus communism. In speaking of unprecedented political developments, the term “post-modern” is often applied.
Within this context, there are few western nations more deserving of analysis than Canada. It is, of course, the very reason why media never do so. Consider how often CBC, CTV, Globe & Mail or Toronto Star view our rapidly-changing society from an historical context.
Many Canadians are happy to see provincial governments, and now even the federal government ending COVID-19 restrictions, mask mandates, and worst of all, COVID-19 vaccine mandates for certain occupations and activities, but is that really enough?
The fact that the government had the capability to mandate vaccines that did not stop the spread of the virus they were meant to fight is quite troubling. In some provinces like Ontario, they have still not scrapped the digital infrastructure for the mandates, making it so that businesses can still continue discriminating against customers based on vaccine status.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is tacitly endorsing discrimination, and even if you think businesses should be allowed to deny service to whomever they please (which is a fair argument), it is undeniable that nobody would care about vaccine status if the government did not tell them to care.
The government cited government-controlled CBC reports as part of their justification for imposing the act.
Although they didn’t originate the term, Canada’s Liberal government have redefined the phrase “more to the story than meets the eye.” A rarity it is to uncover a decision made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau devoid of stealth and subterfuge.
Our most recent example arrives via government’s response to the Ottawa Truckers Convoy. Most Canadians are familiar with one ramification– a freezing of bank accounts as punitive measures against organizers and participants.
Behind the surface is found unexplored territory of government overreach. So much so that lawmakers in the United States want to protect American citizens from the neo-communist crackdowns occurring in Canada.
The U.S. government, which speaks in a language of force, is afraid of its citizenry.
What we are dealing with is a government so power-hungry, paranoid and afraid of losing its stranglehold on power that it is conspiring to wage war on anyone who dares to challenge its authority.
The new guidelines on extremist behavior include those who question the fraud in the 2020 election and anyone who question the regime’s talking points on COVID and its treatments including the mandates.
Asked why he supported some protests but was determined to crush the trucker convoy, Justin Trudeau answered without hesitation: He supported — and even participated in — protests he agreed with, but he did not support — and vowed to crush — those with “unacceptable views,” that is, views he disagrees with.
Our ruling class saw in Covid an opportunity to revolutionize how we relate to one another and how we exist in the world. Recall how the phrase “the new normal” emerged almost immediately in the earliest days of the pandemic. This public health crisis offered the ideal pretext for expanding exceptional state powers beyond all previous limits. Our government and public health authorities have still not defined the thresholds for what counts as a public health emergency—the supposed legal justification for burdensome Covid “countermeasures” (a military, not a medical, term), serious infringements on civil liberties, and censorship of dissenting voices. The assumption of emergency powers by both elected officials and unelected bureaucrats continues indefinitely, with little critical scrutiny and no appropriate checks and balances.
