Manchester police chief resigns as force placed under watchdog monitoring for letting 80,000 crimes go unrecorded

The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has resigned and the force was placed under ‘special measures,’ after a scathing report found it failed to record 80,000 crimes in a year, including domestic abuse cases.

Ian Hopkins, who spent 13 years in the top job, announced his resignation in a statement on Friday, saying the “challenging” issues faced by GMP should be addressed by a new chief constable.

To their credit Manchester Police did harass multiple Twitter users.

Grooming gangs: a product of PC culture

Authorities turned a blind eye to group-based child-sexual exploitation because of racial sensitivities.

The Home Office report into group-based child sexual exploitation – more informally described as grooming gangs – has led many to conclude that the perceived prevalence of Asian or Pakistani Muslim perpetrators is a right-wing myth.

But this debate glosses over what remains the greatest problem on this front: the story is not so much the ethnic composition of grooming gangs, but rather how the ethnic composition of certain gangs influences how public authorities respond to these cases.

China: Britain’s Biggest Long-Term Threat

China: Britain’s Biggest Long-Term Threat

“If the question is which state will be shaping our world across the next decade providing big opportunities and big challenges for the UK, the answer is China,” Britain’s new MI5 Director Ken McCallum recently told journalists. He added that Russia is currently “providing bursts of bad weather, while China is changing the climate”. McCallum said that countries such as China and Russia were no longer focused just on traditional espionage activities, such as stealing government secrets, but also on targeting Britain’s economy, infrastructure and academic research, while seeking to undermine its democracy.

“The UK wants to co-operate with China on the big global issues like climate change, while at the same time being robust in confronting covert hostile activity when we come across it,” he said. “[MI5 is] looking to do more against Chinese activity, carefully prioritised.”

Charging the ‘Beatles’: Inside the case against ISIS militants

WASHINGTON (AP) — As two Islamic State militants faced a judge in Virginia last month, Diane Foley listened from home through a muffled phone connection and strained to make out the voices of the men prosecutors say kidnapped her son before he was murdered.

Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh stand accused of belonging to an IS cell dubbed “the Beatles,” an incongruously lighthearted nickname for British citizens blamed for the jailing, torture and murder of Western hostages in Syria.

After geopolitical breakthroughs and stalemates, military actions in Syria and court fights in London, the Justice Department’s most significant terrorism prosecution in years was finally underway. For Foley, who months earlier had pleaded with Attorney General William Barr to pursue justice by forswearing the death penalty, the fact the case was proceeding at all felt miraculous.

‘We must not allow woke activists to stop us confronting Islamist extremism,’ says former UK home secretary

A prominent British MP has warned against sanitising the deadly “ideological virus” of Islamism, claiming the woke minority are threatening efforts to root out Islamic terrorism.

Writing exclusively for the Telegraph, former home secretary Sajid Javid slammed those who cry “Islamophobia” when Western governments seek to deal with the challenges of Islamist extremism.

Javid, who is himself a Muslim, claimed that Western liberal democracies are under threat from a “grotesque form of separatism” that needs to be confronted. He added that President Emmanuel Macron is right – a reference to the French leader’s crackdown on Islamist extremism.

The alleged sex attack took place at a hotel in London where the man was living at taxpayers’ expense.

The suspect, who is said to be from Sudan, was arrested by police on November 8 and later released on bail.

Yet some wonder at the growing distrust of authority.
