Russia Imports North Korean Military Kits

This is going well:

Vladimir Putin’s forces are being forced to source equipment from North Korea and Iran as the impacts of sanctions and military losses in Ukraine bite, defence experts believe.

British defence intelligence analysts think that Moscow is “increasingly sourcing weaponry from other heavily sanctioned states” as its own stockpiles are depleted.

An update published by the UK’s Ministry of Defence pointed to claims that Ukrainian forces had shot down an Iranian-made drone as evidence of Moscow’s use of systems sourced from Tehran.

Ukraine claimed it shot down the drone near Kupiansk as part of the offensive that has punched through Russian lines around Kharkiv on the eastern front.

The image suggested the Shahed “suicide drone” had been shot down by Ukrainian forces and had not detonated on impact as designed, though little information was released by the authorities in Kyiv.

 

If it makes everyone feel better, Justin relies on South Korea to pull its fat out of the fire:

Canada has asked the government of South Korea to produce and deliver more artillery rounds to backfill supplies that Ottawa sent to war-torn Ukraine.

‘Violating The Laws Of War’: Human Rights Watchdog Slams Ukrainian Military For Taking Cover In ‘Civilian Structures’

Ukraine’s army set up military bases and launched weapons from densely populated urban areas, effectively placing targets for the Russian army on the backs of civilians, the watchdog, Amnesty International, said. Such tactics could amount to a violation of international law, as they require the Russian army to incur larger collateral damage and destroy civilian infrastructure in order to strike strategic Ukrainian targets.

Human rights campaigner Lord Alton of Liverpool told the House of Lords how the Russian military is stealing Ukrainian grain, destroying the country’s agricultural infrastructure and blockading its ports on the Black Sea, preventing exportation via that route.

Meanwhile, 400 million people are said to be dependent on grain imported from Ukraine, sometimes referred to as “the breadbasket of Europe”.

Germany’s ambassador to Canada on Ukraine, turbines and Canada as an energy exporter — just not right away

Like you, I did not expect turbines would be on the exam. But the Trudeau government’s decision to waive export restrictions for Russian-owned turbines puts Canada right in the middle of a dispute between Ukraine and Germany over sanctions against Russia. Volodymyr Zelensky is furious, the World Ukrainian Congress is suing Canada, and this all looks more like a preview of coming attractions than like a one-off.

I called Sabine Sparwasser, Germany’s ambassador to Canada, who’s an old acquaintance and has held previous postings in Canada, off and on, since 2003.

US fears Russia will use ‘drastic’ tactics including nuke threat as fortunes wane in Ukraine

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines warned the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday that “the next month or two of fighting will be significant,” as President Vladimir Putin deals with a “mismatch between his ambitions” and his “military capabilities.”

“The next few months could see us moving along a more unpredictable and potentially escalatory trajectory,” including “a period of more ad hoc decision making” by Russia, she warned.

It increases the “likelihood that President Putin will turn to more drastic means,” she said, especially “if he perceives Russia is losing in Ukraine.”

Ukraine: The Great American propaganda war

This is what sticks in my craw: billions of our taxpayer dollars being sent to fuel a war in which the U.S. has no national security interest. Even Obama said as much in 2016. All that money to buy weapons and pay the salaries and pensions of corrupt Ukrainian government officials. And to fight disinformation? While our own cities are decaying and millions of Americans are out of work? Are you kidding me? All for another proxy war to weaken Russia. And to fill the coffers of the Deep State war machine. And all the while, the Washington bureaucrats and their lapdogs in the media spout their lies and talking points as if they were Gospel. This war should be called “The Great American Propaganda War.”
