Canada was once lauded all over the world for having a merit-based immigration system. Though strict, this country was widely perceived as welcoming. The same cannot be said for Donald Trump, who, despite angling for a similar approach, is being cast as though he’s bringing an immigration apocalypse upon the United States.
An Arizona man was caught chopping down a Trump-Vance campaign sign with a machete after plowing into them with his car.
Authorities are investigating multiple reports of a person wearing a white T-shirt, pizza patterned pants, white slip-ons and a baseball cap vandalizing political signs in the Fortuna Foothills area.
Witnesses reported a man damaging signs near East 40th Street and South Foothills Boulevard by running them over with a vehicle, kicking them over and slashing them with a machete.
Tightening poll figures have triggered nervousness and anxiety in Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, with Donald Trump making gains in the states where it matters most as the election race enters its climactic final phase.
Amid a dramatic news cycle that has seen the US hit by two destructive hurricanes and rising fears of all-out war in the Middle East, the Guardian’s 10-day polling average tracker showed the vice-president and Democratic nominee with a two-point nationwide lead, 48% to 46%, over her Republican opponent as of 10 October – tellingly, down from a 4% advantage she registered a fortnight ago.
An Afghan national, resettled in the United States by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s administration, accused of plotting an Election Day Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist attack reportedly worked as a security guard for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Office dismissed reports that it had accepted the call for a 21-day ceasefire issued overnight by the United States and France.
“The report about a ceasefire is incorrect,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement it issued while Netanyahu was en route to New York to address the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly.
If a keffiyeh-adorned posh kid on a leafy campus were to hold forth on the Israel-Lebanon clash without once saying the word ‘Hezbollah’, none of us would be surprised. To the West’s à la mode loathers of Israel, the Jewish State is responsible for every ill in the Middle East, and its foes are always blameless. But for a world leader to do it, to pontificate on this bloody battle without mentioning the ruthless terror outfit whose rocket fire started it, is unforgivable.
At least four people have been killed and dozens injured in a mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, police say.
“Multiple shooters fired multiple shots on a group of people” late on Saturday in the Five Points South area of the city, Birmingham police officer Truman Fitzgerald said.
Police found the bodies of two men and one woman at the scene and a fourth victim died of bullet wounds in hospital, he said.
Detectives are investigating whether the gunmen walked up to the victims or drove by, Mr Fitzgerald added. No suspects have been arrested.

The opposition hasn’t even had a chance to introduce a long-awaited non-confidence motion and already there are clear signals that the Parti Québécois is prepared to prop up the flagging Liberal government.
I don’t think it helps to just say what people want to hear. The truth matters. And the truth is that it was not a great debate for Donald Trump on Tuesday night. I suspect he did little to no debate prep in advance, and every time Kamala baited him, he took the bait.
BREAKING: A new CNN poll shows that Kamala Harris has LOST support of voters on who they trust to handle the economy, and Trump has gained
“Vote for Kamala Harris, you sexist pig” is one helluva sales pitch — and maybe not one you expected to read in a purported news story in the pages of The Hill.
Unless you’re a regular reader of The Hill, of course, in which case you have my deepest sympathy.
Trudeau should step down to prevent Poilievre from winning election: LGBTQ+ activists
LGBTQ+ activists say Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s pledge to remain the Liberal leader through to the next election, despite dwindling public support, is putting them at risk.
Queer advocates say a Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre would be dangerous for the LGBTQ+ community, and some are calling on Trudeau to step aside to give the Liberals a better chance at winning the next election — which must happen by Oct. 20, 2025.
Sarah Worthman, executive director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Queer Research Initiative, says she’s seriously concerned about the potential harm of a Conservative government for LGBTQ+ Canadians.
You can’t take people like this seriously, they have a weird need to justify themselves by inventing drama.
Toronto police have arrested 48 people — including 11 youths, the youngest of whom is 14-years-old — and laid 406 charges as part of two “proactive” gun violence initiatives, Projects Community and Springboard.
After seeing a rise in gun violence in their division in the beginning of the year, Toronto police’s 43 Division initiated Project Community, Det. Sgt. Jeremy Hayes told reporters.
