Having babies makes you Hitler says Star

To keep Canada off Trump’s authoritarian path, we must reject pronatalism and protect women’s rights

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s recent talking point commiserating with couples in their late 30s whose fertility window is closing and who can’t afford to start families touched a nerve. While it’s true that some couples are starting families later or having fewer children, and Canada’s fertility rate is declining, Poilievre’s rhetoric about women’s biological clocks running out is offensive. Liberals and the NDP rightly condemned it.

While he meant to sound sympathetic, Poilievre calling women’s wombs into service as a means towards political ends should be seen for what it is: Canada’s own brand of pronatalism — societal and institutional pressures on women (mostly from men) to have children. It mirrors U.S President Donald Trump, the self-professed “fertilization president” who uses pronatalism as a cover for rolling back reproductive rights and gender equality.

Where does the Star find these extremist loons?

Canada bars its soldiers from joining Ukraine’s foreign legion

Speaking to Canadian parliament’s defence committee on Wednesday, Lt Gen Frances Allen, the vice-chief of the defence staff, said top brass had issued an order preventing full-time service members and part-time reservists from travelling to join Ukraine’s newly formed foreign legion.

In this age of political hypochondria, everyone wants to be a hero

I’m something of a hypochondriac, and in the past few years have had at least seven different types of cancer diagnosed by Dr Google. Many, many things resemble the symptoms of the disease, most of which are benign, but if you know of family members who’ve suffered and read about it, then it’s natural to see the Big C everywhere.

Ex-US Capitol Police Chief: ‘Entire Intel Community Seems to Have Missed’ Preparations for Riot

American intelligence services failed to assess the situation and anticipate the violents events in Washington, DC, on 6 January, Steven Sund, former chief of the US Capitol Police, has claimed.

In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a copy of which was obtained by CNN, Sund pointed the finger at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), US Secret Service, as well as Department of Homeland Security and the DC Metropolitan Police Department for failing to predict an “armed assault” on the Capitol.
